Is my plasma globe (those toys) interfering and/or interacting with wireless signals? I mean, I know it is--at least in this instance that happened earlier today: I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer that also measures barometric pressure, and displays the time and date. The time is also being calibrated often to the atomic clock's "reading" for accuracy. The wireless transmitter that picks up the temperature and barometric pressure is out on my balcony, where I keep it in the shade and away from anything that could block it or get it dirty. The distance from the transmitter to the receiving (main) unit is approximately 25 feet. It is a new gadget of mine, and it has always performed exceptionally--no problems whatsoever. But I was rearranging my living room today and I put a rather large plasma globe one foot away from the main/receiving unit. The unit flipped out; all the numbers started going crazy and it was basically freaking out like it was having a seizure or something. When I moved the ball away, everything went back to normal. Now: What happened? How did it happen? And if these little glowing balls and decorations with streaks of electricity within them disable electronic functions, isn't there a way to "weaponize" them--you know, like EMP's and the like. Could I plug a couple into my car and strategically place them in hopes that an officer cannot get a reading on my speed? What other mischief can come from playing with these things? You receiving unit is suffering what is known in radio biz as "Desensitization." Your plasma globe is putting out a lot of RF energy, though not particularly high frequency. But it is likely overloading the radio receiver front end, which is designed to pick up electric fields on the order of microvolts.
Sorry, the only way to "weaponize" this is try to talk the traffic cop into carrying an operating globe with him/her in the vehicle. Ain't gonna happen.
Also, the type of transmitter/receiver for radar units operates enough differently that a plasma globe wouldn't affect it. Much less for the laser-style units.
