Who has better metal detectors, Whites or Garrets? With over 30 years of metal detecting experience, I prefer White's over Garrett. The unique tone of the Garrett detectors I used seemed to distract me. Side by side, the comparable models of each are typically about the same as far as features and depth capability. White's are just my personal preference.

Have you found anything valuable or interesting with a metal detector? Has it taken a lot of time and a really expensive detector ? I have a Whites IDX Pro, haven't found much yet, but it is fun. I use a Tesoro Cibola.It was less than $350.I have a shoe box full of silver coins and a few rings,some tax tokens and a belt buckle incrusted with 10 Buffalo nickels.This total doesn't include all the clad coins that I've found.Over the past 3 yrs.I have hunted mostly old schools and parks.

You just need to use it and be ready to do lots of digging."You will need a good trowl".It's all fun don't give up on it I have one and it takes time.You need to go to a area that is clean from most trash, like out in a field.Practice by throwing out some coins and go find them,then bury some and find them.Look at the different readings and listen to the sounds each coin makes.You wouldn't believe how many old coins,rings,tokens I have found.Once you get the hang of it you will love your DFX

Are you aloud to borrow a metal detector from the police station? i lost my phone in the snow 3 days ago in my neighbors yard and i cant find it threw all the snow. to make it even better, my phone is white. so are you aloud to borrow metal detectors from the police station? First off, Dr. Illiterate, your phone isn't made of metal, it's made of plastic.

Can a metal detector find my white gold wedding band in the grass? I lost my wedding band (white gold with diamonds) in a patch of grass next door to my house. I've looked and looked and looked yet, nothing. I can not find it. So I'm thinking of renting a metal detector. But, can such a device find it? Don't metal detectors only locate ferrous metals? What should I do? Any advice would be great. My wife is in tears. yes, metal detectors will find gold, silver, as well as cheaper metals...
I would suggest that you find a local treasure hunters club, ask if someone could help you find the ring.
EVERY treasure hunter that I know would be willing to help for no fee, just for the fun of the hunt. I would be very cautious of someone that wanted to charge you money.

Can a metal detector locate my diamond earrings? I lost my diamond earrings earlier today in my grass backyard. I KNOW they are there, but the cheap metal detector I bought right away broke or died within minutes of using it. The earrings have white gold or platinum around them. Would a metal detector even pick them up? Please help me! I'm beating myself up over this! Any advice would be so very much appreciated! Thank you!!!!!!!!! I do not think that a metal detector will work. Maybe a really nice one would. Perhaps the thing to do is to calm down so you don't smash it into the earth. Then, get a magnifying glass and get on your hands and knees just like Rick Moranas in Honey I shrunk the kids. Be patient. If you KNOW they are there, they will be there. Do not check in the morning or the dew may sparkle like your earrings. Check on a dry day in the middle of the day or right before dusk. That way, the sparkle will catch your eye.
Have a dog? Don't let them outside or they may eat it.
If these were really expensive or are very special too you, the drastic thing to do is to let your lawn die, set small controlled fires, and the only thing left should be your earrings.
I did that once to literally find a needle in a hay stack.

I don't own any metal detector, myself, but I have several friends who are "in" to using metal detectors on a regular basis. They all have Whites brand, and they all 'swear' by it.
That tells me more than any other advertisement or endorsement, etc.

Fair-priced new/used metal detector equal to the quality of a White's Spectrum? Looking to purchase a metal detector that is used or possibly new and is equal to the quality Whites Spectrum. ($300-$400) Best answer gets a piece of candy! =) well your asking as if oranges were all similar or apples all were red. You pay for what you get in electronics. I have a used whites and a used bounty hunter paid about the same for both but the whites surpasses the bounty hunter by far it has more features, detects deeper and smaller items so I got lucky on my purchase. Do some reading compare features and watch ebay and craigslist
