Where can i buy 3mm White LED's in Chennai, India? I am planning to upgrade my MAGLITE SOLITAIRE Flash Light from incandescent bulb to white LED, And am trying to follow DYI available in Youtube. Someone please suggest where should i look for 3MM White LED's in Chennai. Not the usual 5MM led's. Please help. Thanks in advance. I have tons of them. What is the efficiency of a white LED? hi i need to find out the efficiency of a white LED. I need it in the form of visible output light power/input electrical power in %. not much

it heats the structure about the same as 17W of resistive dissipation

How much voltage does it take to power a white LED? How much voltage does it take to power a white LED? And what size resistor do I need to convert from 3.0 vDC to that amount? Thanks Most LEDs have a voltage drop between 2-3 volts. White ones are usually higher, around 3.5 volts.
Since LEDs should be driven via a resistor with at least 2 volts across it (preferably closer to 4 volts) you need at least 6 volts to run a white LED.
The resistor is determined by the voltage spec on the LED, the battery voltage, and current.
So with a 3.5 v LED, a 6 volt battery, and a 20mA current,
R = (6-3.5) / .02 = 125 ohms
PS, you can't use a 3 volt battery in this case, and resistors cannot increase voltage.

Is it legal to have white LED lights in place of my license plate lighting? I am looking to replace the factory-installed lighting on my license plate lights with white LED lights. Is that legal in Pennsylvania? Could I get in trouble for it at all? Also, I am looking to install a blue dome light inside the car. Could that be a violation? I know that light is not generally on while the car is moving, but still. On the white LED lights you're fine. In a lot of cars, LED brake lights have been commonly used for the past five or so years. Now I am beginning to see LED white lights for the license plate area.
There are some companies out there that are making replacement LED bulbs that fit the same bayonet type application of your OE style incandescent lights. So long as the luminosity of the bulb is matched, there shouldn't be a problem.
As far as the blue dome light is concerned this may require some clarification. In the old days, a dome light was the name given to the light fixture that is attached to the headliner of a car. If that is the light you're referring to, then there is no problem on the color, type, etc.
If by dome light you're referring to an emergency vehicle light (AKA Federal siren / light) then that will fall under guidelines by your state. Some colors are allowed for use by civilians (contractors. first responders, etc.) while others are in violation.
In the case of vintage emergency vehicles, these lights are allowed for authenticity, but they cannot be used unless the car is in private property, or at an event under the allowance of the local law enforcement authority.

Can you actually notice the difference between white and RGB LED TV quality? The RGB LED TV's like Sony Bravia use 3 colours in each LED to supposedly produce better quality colours than the cheaper white LED that also use less power. But when looking at the screens in real life can you actually notice the difference in quality? Once the clarity of a TV display gets so clear and lifelike that the human eye cannot see any further improvement, it's arguable whether any further technical advances will have a practical effect. The RGB LEDs *may* produce a noticeable effect for some viewers when comparing to other, poor performing TVs, but up against a top quality standard LCD (even with fluorescent backlighting), it will likely show less of a difference.
It's kind of like the claims for stereo speaker systems. One claims to be flat up to 18,000 hz while another says its flat to 20,000 hz. But since the average listener's hearing ceases around 16,000 hz, what's the point?

Why do white LED lights look blueish to me? I was looking at these LED desk lamps over at the store and their white light had more than a hint of blue to it. Or are they really blueish? Why is this? Not that it bothers me, I'm just wondering. It is a problem with their spectrum of light emitance.
You can look it up more on wikipedia. In short, their white light isn't exactly as white as you might think. And it always is in contrast with the yellowish white light of normal bulbs. If you are really used to light bulbs in home LED light will seem a lot more blue in your home.

Dipping white LED Christmas Lights in paint to color? Because I can't seem to find any LED christmas lights with the color purple. I've imagined a way I could do it myself but first would like some advice on whether it will work or not. I figured I'd buy 100 white LED string lights in ebay and then just dip each LED in purple paint. I don't know what type of paint will word that will endure heat from the lights but also translucent enough to be bright. What are your suggestions? No jeeves, no! That may cause all sorts of problems, like fires or toxic fumes, even electrical problems and dangers as the moisture from the paint may get into the wiring. Keep looking for purple lights, but for safety's sake do not tamper or adjust them in any way.
Trust me I have seen some nasty Xmas accidents that occur due to people using those dangerous lil things

Will a blue and white led light support coral? im Wondering will it support coral. Also the only spot the blue led is visible when the white is on is in the middle. If coral can live should it be in the middle? You can buy LED lights that will support corals. But they are expensive, high powered units with large heat sinks and usually cooling fans. You will need to put on shades to look directly at them.
Cheap LEDs wont put out enough light to support corals.

What is the white LED light that provides the most light output per dollar? I am looking to purchase an LED light for residential lighting. I want it to be white, and I'm looking for the most light output per dollar. Very complicated question. What kind of a light? A fixture, or just a bulb? Currently there is no standardization when it comes to LED's. They range in color tone from antique white to daylight. The amount of light will vastly differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. The lower the cost of the bulb the lesser quality it will probably be. The Chinese makers are starting to flood the market with so called affordable ones that are untried per se and are of questionable value. If you are looking for just a bulb, I would suggest Ledtronics. They have been in that business for a number of years and their products are trustworthy. If you are looking for a fixture that is a whole different story.
