Where can I rent spotlights for a play? I would need 1, preferably 2 spotlights for a play I'm doing in nyc. I'm doing it at a church so it has no theatre lighting set up. It's a non profit organization,so we're working with a very low budget. the best would be if someone could donate the lights. All donations are tax deductible. Any ideas? Contact your local lighting/sound/theatre equipment company. Many, if not most, will be willing to give discounts to not-for-profit organisations; some may be willing to donate them for a certain amount of time. Also, contact your local amateur organisation, who might have a hirer or set of equipment that you can use.

Does anyone know how much it is to hire a costume from "Spotlight Theatre Costume Hire" on the Gold Coast? Just want to know if it's cheaper than $40.00 :) I'm not sure about there, but everyplace I've seen rent costumes it depends on the costume and length of the rental. I've seen costumes that cost 500-1000 per week here in the US and they aren't even very good costumes.

If so please wave up to the two girls who are at the very top of the theatre doing the spotlight for the show, its a pretty lonely job, but many people dont even realise anyones up there doing it and its a quite important role they play toward the show. im going their

How do I make an improvised spotlight/ followspot? Our class is having a small play and we need them spotlights but we have no budget for the real thing. All we have are just plain "theater" lights that lights up the entire stage but we need something that could highlight or follow the direction of the actors. Haha, sounds like my high school! Full wash ftw.
Can you control each bar of lights separately? You should at least be able to light only upstage, downstage, or centerstage, so an option would be to make sure the action is concentrated in those areas and put the lights there, keeping the other lights off or turned low while that action is taking place. Another option - you'd have to make it work to look artsy, otherwise it's just going to look ghetto - is to get a work light, like you use in construction, when you're painting in the dark or something. They're under $30, and provide a decent amount of light that you can focus somewhat specifically.

What is a good song to choreograph a light show to using six theatre spotlights? Shorter the better. Six Source Fours, that is. Follow spots or Elipsodals, or Pin Spots? Or do you mean like a mac500 spot? "spotlight" is a very vague term.
Conventional lights it'd be fun to do something like part of Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. You could also pick a rock song that's fairly epic, like Purple Haze or inagodadavida. I'm not really familiar with dance music, but anything with a good beat is plausible.

Where can I get a followspot or theater spotlight for cheap/free? My theater group is tiny and we have very little money. We need a followspot. Is there a way we can get on for cheap/free or make one? errm free doesnt really happen because the equipment is usually old and can therefore be worth a lot of money.
Consider approaching your local amateur schools or local small theatres as regaurds to hiring, but they may not be very co-operative if they dont know you, or otherwise charge you for the hiring.
Otherwise think of looking online for hiring.
I think you might need to know some people in the business for this one.

Where can I find out about auditions for Physical Theatre companies in London? Hi! I have recently finished 2-year training in physical theatre and devised performance. I don't have an agent, so I am trying to find out how I can find out about and apply for auditions for different companies that I might be able to work with. I have tried casting call pro, the stage, spotlight, and also sending my CV to some companies, but this hasn't been very successful so far... Is there any publication or website that might help? Thanks As difficult as it is the only way you can get entered into an audition is to keep sending off your showreel and hoping for the best.
It's worth making (if you haven't already) or reviewing your showreel and be sure it's as tight and impressive as possible, obviously they get a lot of cv's sent through but whilst that shows your education it doesn't actually give them an impression of you and your movement. While it's expensive to be sending off showreels left right and centre if you put them onto recordable dvd through your computer then the cost and postage is relatively low.
It's worth going down to see some productions and chatting with the cast and crew afterwards, as they say it's who you know not what you know.
From the sounds of things you're doing everything right it's just that initial break that you need and you'll be away. Keep it up and don't give up!

Actors and musicians: Can you see the audience in a medium lit place with a spotlight on you? I was just curious to see if the inside theater was medium dark and there was a spotlight on the actors on stage...could you see the audience ? It's not completely dark, but could you see people from 20 rows back on the edge? I know it sounds weird, but sometimes I see the people on stage looking at certain people, and I don't know if they can see the person clearly or not. when i am on stage i can see the outlines of people farther back or higher in the balcony. The people up close about in the 1st 6 rows i can hardly make out their faces. When we act on a large stage and you see the actor talking or looking at someone it they can't really tell who the person is or really looks like when the lights are on. Its all a part of acting. making the audience feel conected w/ the characters.
