What is your personal opinion about Stun Guns & Tazers? I find their being used far more here in Canada than anywhere else. I think it's wrong to use either weapons just for the sake of the police feeling they have more control and power over helpless individuals! Personally I think should be banned. Love 'em. I believe some police officers use them way too much though. Just watch an episode of COPS to see that. Often a police officer has it drawn just leaving his vehicle and there is no need for that.
EDIT: to clarify where I was going.. it takes away from an officer's verbal skills that used to be the benchmark of the profession. Cops now know they have a good "weapon" to use besides deadly force and persuasion.
exilio- before a tazer the officer had many options for a knife wielding indidivual. He could use his "billy club" (now most dept's have an asp or Pr-24), verbal persuasion, or if another officer was there... distraction (while someone else snuck up behind and disarmed the individual).
I am definitely for the use of tazers and stun guns but officers are relying on them too much. Better training can change this trend.

Do you find that tazers are being used too loosly? There are a lot of stories of unarmed people being tazed, is it really the right way to handle a person? No. We are trained how and WHEN to use them.

Do you think some of these Cops abuse their use of dogs and tazers? On these police shows, when I see the police let their dogs go and overdo their attacks! Or when I see police over use their tazer guns on suspects, and take enjoyment on over using them! I think all police actions should be filmed and recorded! SOME do but not everyone does.

When will they outlaw tazers all togeather? Two people have died in Indiana in the last year mabe more Ive only heard of two.Law inforcement says they are safe and they use them on each other in training and that any body killed is on drugs or has health issues.How can they be safe? First of all do you know why Tasers exist? They are for "non-lethal" force. Yes, occasionally there will be times when non-lethal force may cause death - the percentages are VERY rare.
Removing this tool from law enforcement is not a conceivable idea - why do you ask? Well without Tasers or the equivalent there will be many, many more uses of lethal force, such as physical and the use of our firearms.
Before you condemn the tool, understand the beneficial uses of ANY and all non-lethal tools - and before you go into pepper spray, understand pepper spray does NOT work in a number of cases, EDP's (Emotionally Disturbed People, people under the influence of alcohol or drugs, etc.).

Do tazers cause suspects to become more belligerent? Is the pain from a tazer so painful that it causes The Fight-or-flight response? Because In volintary situations when someone is being tazerd the person who gets tazerd is more likely to attack the person who tazers them comparerd to mace or pepper spray. Note that this is effect after the tazer is being used From what I see on filmed attacks, it is the person trying to get away from an extremely uncomfortable experience they have no control over.
It kills me how a cop can scream out orders for a person to sit down, stand against the car or lay down as they are being pulled and tazored by three or more different people.
Watch those videos closely. Some people of course deserve it but others are not given the chance to cooperate with a trigger happy tazor operator.

Thank you and please be honest. only law enforcement are aloud to use them, just normal shot prong ones. but you can get them illegaly for arounf $300 which have the 2 prongs that spark together. very harsh lil things. but no they are not legal for a civilian. can u imagine people running around with tasers lol that would be mayhem

Do cops have to be hit by tazers to qualify to use them? I know that they have to be hit by pepper/CS spray to qualify to carry it, but do they have to be hit by tazers? Please answer only if you know. Preferrably if you are a current/former LEO. My Department requires the full ride of the Taser in addition to the classroom study course in order to qualify in carrying the Taser.

Last night Air Force 1 touched down in Sydney, will firehoses or tazers work best on protesters ? Just wondering as the US President and his huge entourage visit our beautiful city, why should we tolerate unemployed, long haired or "sheltered" University student protesters ? As our equin and horse racing industry is in the grip of an Equin Virus, our Police may not be able to be mounted on their horses for crowd control ! So what would work best, firehoses or stun guns ? Do you really want the NSW Police to go around individually shooting each protester with a stun gun, resetting the wires, then doing it again? It's too slow and too impractical for this purpose. With a firehose, you could knock over dozens of people in one burst. However, with the severe drought problem hitting Australia, that's probably not practical either.
Dogs and riot police would work well. As soon as the crowd turns unruly, they can be trampled.

Where do you stand on tazers and other directed energy weapons? I've heard lots of talk in the news lately about how they are too dangerous to be used. It seems to me that if people would comply with the instructions of the police and not behave in a threatening manner towards officers that they wouldn't get "tazed" in the first place. Nobody is ever Happy. Cops can't shot the bad guy. So tasers are invented, Now the bad guys are complaining that it may HURT. I can't believe that there are any cops working in this mixed up WORLD.
