Archery is a precision sport where the competitors aim and shoot at a target using a bow and arrow. Archery competitions can be divided into the following disciplines:
• Outdoor Target Archery
• Indoor Target Archery
• Field Archery
• Run-Archery
• Clout Archery
• Flight Archery
• Archery Biathlon is practiced under IBU now
There are three types of bows used in archery competitions:
• Recurve bow
The recurve bow’s ends curve away from the archer when the bow is held in the shooting position. The recurve shape can reduce the loading when fully drawn and imparts more energy to the arrow than a longbow of similar top draw weight.
• Longbow
The longbow is the most basic of bows. It is usually shaped from a single piece of timber and the grip is typically made from a strip of leather bound around the bow. A small shelf is cut into the side of the bow for the arrow to rest on. The tip of the arrow is kept at full draw to shoot.
• Compound bow
A compound bow has pulleys set at the end of its limbs. The purpose of these pulleys is to make the cocked, ready to fire position of the bow easier to hold.
The middle part of the bow, that is, the part that does not bend is called the riser.

Archery Anatomy : An Introduction to Techniques for Improved PerformanArchery Anatomy : An Introduction to Techniques for Improved PerformanThis unique book looks for the first time at archery techniques from the point of view of the interrelationship between the anatomy of the human body and the anatomy of the bow. By highlighting the primary power sources involved in the performance of the sport it enables coaches and archers alike to understand and perfect their skills in ways that use the natural movements of archer and bow in co-ordination. The book is not tied to any specific national or international rules; it can be used by archers throughout the world to gain an understanding of the biomechanics of the sport. FAQ about Target Archery Rules

Why is Britain so responsible for so many of the most popular sports? Britain is responsible for football (soccer), tennis, cricket, badminton, rugby, skiing (amazingly), bobsleigh, bowls. boxing, canoeing, croquet, curling, darts, golf, hockey, ice skating, mountaineering, rackets/raquets, rowing, squash, table tennis, ten pin bowling, trotting, water polo, water skiing, weight lifting, yachting, target shooting, target archery, fencing, show jumping, horse racing, netball and.... you americans are not going to believe this... basketball*. Plus a few more. I have found all of these from my own knowledge plus wikipedia and the following website: http://www.fatbadgers.co.uk/Britain/sport.htm *basketball was invented in britain after developing from netball but the USA is reponsible for the name and most of the rules. The general concept was from the UK. sophia B, how can something be invented in many countries. One county must be reliable, they dont just all come togeth saying , hello, jambo, bonjour, ciao, olah, allo... letzzz eeenvent a sporrrt! Also, hockey and ice hockey are two different sports. Sorry to burst your bubble hun. actually, i think you will find that you missed snooker from your list, however please note...
Most of these sports were not 'invented' in england, they were merely discovered from the countries in the british empire and the game was developed into an english passtime, basketball actually originally was a greek game, but the game was changed and modified over the years.
England can atleast be credited for the 'modern' examples of the games.

Are there any rules for practicing target archery in a park, in the Sydney area? If so, can anyone give me details or a link in which I can find the answer as I wish to practice at a longer range? So far in my backyard, I only have a range of 10m from the target board. I live in a suburb very close to Hurstville, so if anyone can help, Thanks in advanced. Can you explain why this is so? "if anyone sees you doing that you'll go to goal." Also, the arrows have no chance of going through the fence because the fence is reinforced with another layer, which isn't part of my neighbours' land, it is connected to my house. The fence I have is surrounding my backyard on all sides, twice my height and made of steel, not to mention the extra layer I have previously made a note of. You shoot your bow in your back yard in Hurtsville? Mate if anyone sees you doing that you'll go to goal. If an arrow went through the fence you could be in some deep shit. Try going to a gun shop and asking the counter staff about any local archery clubs in the SYD area. There is a big shop in Bankstown on Canterbury Rd which sells archery stuff

what are the rules to archery? I just came back from camp and did a spot of archery. I really enjoyed it and had a good practice at school earlier in the year. I was wondering what you need, how much to spend, and where you can shoot. This might sound odd, but I'm also a vegetarian, so I won't be shooting to kill. It's just for fun! I have a great wooded area behind my house where almost no one goes. If I rope it off with some safety orange rope or something, can I just put a target back there? I don't know who owns the land and it's not like I'm hunting... Thanks for any help you can give! I know nothing really, so any rules or anything will be helpful. also where to buy. i have a Dick's sporting Goods near me and a Lowe's and Home Depot if that helps...thanks!

i want to get into archery, can i just get a bow and some arrows and start shooting targets? or are there rules about that kind of thing? Suggestion: Find yourself a local Sporting Goods Store that sells Archery equipment and go there and ask questions. Most all of these stores have staff trained not only to help you choose the best equipment for you individually, and how it is to be used effectively. There is absolutely no need to spend a lot of money here as you are just starting out.
The rules are there are no rules. If you decide to shoot at home, make sure you have a good target/backstop (Also available at the local Archery Dealer or Pro-Shop.) There are inexpensive Video's you can rent or buy that will show you what you need to know starting with the basic's. This is a great sport and you will have a blast. Just take your time and learn as much as you can before you spend any big money.

what techniques have been used in this text to get the reader to be persuaded? A war is raging between parents trying to raise children and corporate America trying to raise customers. As a parent of three children, I think I'm losing, or at least losing my mind. I've tried to educate my children about our materialistic society and how our family values differ from those of a culture of consumption. My kids, however, want more, buy more and throw away more. I've decided advertising is my biggest enemy. Thanks to ads, my kids won't take no, no, no for an answer and instead nag, nag, nag. Advertising targeted to children in the United States is estimated at more than $16.8 billion annually, over twice what it was in 1992. Product placements are on the rise in TV shows, movies, children's books-even textbooks, since my kids' schools have become commercialized because of budget cuts. The number of corporate-sponsored school events and commercialized lunches is climbing too. I'm most frustrated with the offensive products targeted directly to my teenaged kids. My daughter (14) covertly buys thongs with "Do I know you?" written on the front. Last year, I couldn't find a Halloween costume that didn't make her look like a prostitute. Meanwhile, my oldest son (16) is a walking advertisement for Puma sneakers and Joe Boxer underwear (which is never worn under). My youngest son (12) organizes backpack sales so he can offload his six-month-old, outdated CDs, DVDs and software, and buy the new stuff. How do I protect my children and raise them to become healthy, caring and well-balanced people in what seems an off-balanced world? I have responded by becoming the media police in our home. I put parental controls on my children's computer, but one child maneuvered around this system, designating herself as the administrator, changing my password and obtaining complete access to the Internet. I programmed parental controls on our TV that limited viewing to PG- or G-rated programs, and blocked TV access during the school week. My other child figured out the password and shut off the parental controls. My oldest child kept it easy. He just went to his friends' houses to watch violent movies on their TVs, and steal cars and mutilate people on their computers. Media policing was a losing game. I decided on another tactic. My husband and I bought property in northern Wisconsin to give my children an antidote to the commercialized tech world. The land has 100-foot-tall pine trees, a quiet lake and creatures galore to explore. The natural assets were augmented with a canoe, kayak, floats, tubes, fishing gear, badminton and archery sets, even a 15-foot-wide water trampoline. (Hey, I'm not completely immune to consumerism.) The only rules were: Have fun, and no electronics once we arrive at the lake. That last one was problematic. You'd think we'd asked them to cut off their arms. We allowed their cellphones, CDs and MP3 players in the car travelling to and from our property. But once we got there, we insisted everyone unplug and encouraged them to listen to the magic of the natural world: to slow down, look around, talk to each other, ponder, wander, sleep, play instruments, sing around a campfire. Our youngest seems to appreciate our little piece of heaven, but the two older kids hate the place. I'll never forget passing my oldest son's tent late one night and seeing that eerie blue light spill out into the forest. I peeked in and there he was, zoned out while plugged into his smuggled cellphone playing a video game. My daughter spends most of her time putting makeup on, and vegetates in the car or in our camper. But we won't give up the 'good' fight, for I know we're planting seeds of change. My 12-year-old son whispered to me this summer, "Mom, do you think when I get older I could have my wedding up here?" I whispered back, "Yes, honey. I would really love that." For me, this was a small victory in my personal crusade against consumerism. www.nicefreshkicks.com common interests include sneakers as well as conversing with others who are passionate about footwear. How do I restrain myself from totally kicking his butt? on the archery range tomorrow? I'm going with my mother and boyfriend to our local archery range tomorrow. My mother and I are extremely competitive with each other while shooting, including but not limited to trash talking, trying to distract each other and setting up difficult challenge shots (on one foot, behind a bush while reciting poetry from 50 yards away from the target...that sort of thing). This spills over to anyone that comes along with us. I'm actually very good and enjoy competing and there is a more formal shoot this weekend with actual rules etc. that she and I are practicing for. We're bringing him along for the practice because it will be fun but he hasn't lifted a bow in over ten years...I want him to have a good time and shoot, but I don't want him to think he has to compete with us insane women. How to do that without bruising the male ego? Just don't worry about it, because there is nothing you can do. I had nine straight first place tournament wins one year (In my class) and then a girl I worshiped ( secretly) happened to be in my group of shooters at the next 3-D tournament.
I wanted to impress her so bad and look cool doing it, I couldn't stand the pressure knowing she was looking at me every time it was my turn to shoot.
Needless to say, I did not even place in the tournament. There is nothing you can do about the male ego. Just shoot, enjoy yourself, and he will be just as I am now- scarred for the rest of his life, still thinking of it years later, waking at night after having nightmares about it, need psychiatric care, and even unable to perform in bed with you anymore.
Nah, I'm just joking. Just have fun and don't worry about a thing. It's going to be alright.

Did you like this ? or did it sound like a stupid teenager blabbing? Just when I thought my day couldn’t get more exhausting, I heard the bell of Vidkas Zudikai ring. Gosh, I thought. Time for training. “Shooting well is simple, It just isn’t easy.” Was the first thing Devin had said when he had begun training me. Devin said he’s going to teach me how to shoot a handgun accurately, he said I might need a whole month of training just to learn that. I didn’t agree at the beginning; I really didn’t like the idea of becoming a murderer. If the first and easiest –according to Devin- lessons were about gripping and shooting correctly, I really wondered what would be next. “Firing a gun can be intimidating if you don't understand how to do so properly,” he went on. “A gun is a tool and not the root of evil. Human beings are the source of evil, but that is neither here nor there.” I stood there without saying a thing, wondering why Devin spoke of guns as if they were old acquaintances of his. “Why do you want to teach me how to shoot?” I asked dumbly. “isn’t there anything else I can do for this organization? Why not let me cook I’m a good cook, see, better than anyone you can ever think of–” “I doubt that,” said Devin. “We do not think we are ready to get poisoned –” “That was an awful thing to say you know -” “Do not try to make me feel bad, because that will never do,” he said. I grimaced. “I am not going to start teaching you how to shoot starting from today, I am wiser than that,” he mocked. “I told you don’t want to be a murderer. No offence, Devin, but if I had the heart to shoot someone you’d be the first on my list, but I –” “- That would be a real comfort for me I am sure of that,” he said. I sighed. “So what are you going to teach me now then?” “Shooting safety rules,” he answered. I didn’t say anything so he went on. “The first thing I’d like to teach you is to control your emotions when it comes to safety. If you lose control of your emotions you may do something carelessly. If you have just shot a target or wolf you probably will be excited. At that moment you may turn with a loaded firearm back towards your friends or you might run with a loaded firearm towards a werewolf with the gun safety off. You or someone else may be in anger once you lose control of your emotions. Show discipline. Rehearse in your mind what the safe actions will be. Do not allow your daydreams to replace good judgment. Show restraint and pass up shots which have the slightest chance of being unsafe.” That sounded useful. “so what you’re saying is that I shouldn’t think of anything but shooting when I’m holding the gun?” “Yes… and no,” he said. “You should be thinking about shooting werewolves only. So I must say you should scratch me from your list.” “I’ll give some thought to that,” I said. “Next… You should wear hearing and eye protection at all times. Firearms are loud and can create noises which are damaging to a person's hearing. It can be a gradual loss of hearing due to outbursts of noise over many years. The damage could also be immediate, especially if your ears are next to a muzzle blast. Vibrations from the blast are enough to create loss of hearing. Wear glasses to protect your eyes from escaping gases, burnt powder -especially in black powder shooting-, and other debris.” “And where am I supposed to get all this from?” “I didn’t bring you here and bothered myself to teach you safety instructions without having safety equipment.” He answered dully. “All right, then. What else?” “There’s a lot more. Don't drink alcohol or take drugs –” “Oh gosh I’m just a teenager not Lindsay Lohan –” “Don't drink alcohol or take drugs before or while handling firearms or bow and arrows; alcohol and drugs impair normal physical and mental body functions and mustn't be used before or while handling firearms or archery equipment.” He went on as if he’s deaf. “These substances affect emotions, making it easier to lose control.” “UURGH fine!! But I am not an addict you know –” “The most important thing is to be sure of your target and what is in front of and beyond your target,” he said sounding like a professor. “Before you pull the trigger you must properly identify game animals. Until your target is fully visible and in good light, do not even raise your scope to see it. Use binoculars! Know what is in front of and behind your target. Determine that you have a safe backstop or background. Since you do not know what is on the other side, never take a shot at any animals on top of ridges or hillsides. Know how far bullets, arrows and pellets can travel. Never shoot at flat, hard surfaces, such as water, rocks or steel because of ricochets. Remember what you are going to be out there hunting –” “I’m not a killer –” “- werewolves” The rest was just as miserable. I had no idea what he was wasting all his time for; I was never going to hunt- whether Devin lik ed it or not. so did you like it? you might not understand everything especially the plot- but this was the seventh chapter so... try your best. thank to all answers !!!!! It's fine for a first draft but you can make this much better very easily. For starters you need to follow some sort of timeline. In the first couple of paragraphs we go from the (presumed) present when your character hears a bell signifying the start to a particular training session. Then we go back in time to the first such training session and then go back in time in the very next sentence to when Devin promised to start this sort of training. Then, after an info dump, we jump forward to the first lesson again (though we still haven't gotten back to the present).
If the story you are telling is of this character's training, then tell that story and stop having your character trying to remember it all. If the story is this character tracking down and killing werewolves, then tell that story. If that is your story we don't need to know the specifics of handgun training.
Tell one story and cut out the majority of 'what happened before'. If it is necessary to your story to recall something from your character's training, then do that through a short conversation. By writing this from the First Person Perspective you have lost any element of fear the reader may have of your character ever dying at the hands of a werewolf; otherwise the story would end when your character does.
Write your story until it is finished and then do several rewrites. You're doing fine.

Mortal Kombat: Sindel / Cinematic Ending Motion Comic HD Sindel is an exceptional character in the Mortal Kombat series (and in fighting games in general). In spite of her gloomy, gothic appearance, Sindel is benevolent in nature. She rules the realm of Edenia alongside her daughter, Princess Kitana. Sindel s power appears to be more one of an inner, ethereal nature and she in more than one way. She is a distinctly older and mature character, with flowing grey hair and a regal attitude befitting of her role as Queen of Edenia. Another factor that contributes to her uniqueness is the fact that at one point in the series, she was actually undead. She has a natural affinity with aerial magic, as evidenced by her ability to levitate and manipulate sonic waves. In Mortal Kombat: Deception, creator Ed Boon describes Sindel as a challenging character in more ways than one. Although Sindel is not one of the main characters in the series, she was involved in a big part of the game. This had to do with the fact that her ruling over Edenia, and how it was a target to many rulers like Shao Kahn, Shinnok, and Onaga. Sindel was one of the few evil characters to turn good in the series.
