Flashlight for self defense on College campus? Is this legal? Im am thinking about buying a small flashlight for keeping in my pocket for when I walk late at night from my classes to the dorms (which happen to be on the other side of the campus). One of the models I am looking at has uneven edges on the bottom and top, so if shinning a light and blinding an attacker doesn't work you can use the light in your fist and punch the bad guy with it. Would this be considered a weapon or just a flash light? I don't want to break any of the college's rules, but I don't want to be a sitting duck when walking alone from my classes late at night. Im also consider just a small AA maglight that could be used in a similar manner but is not as bright as the Surefire flashlight, nor does it have the "edges" at the top and bottom of the flash light. Any ideas? I don't think pepper spray is allowed, nor a tazer of some type. Is it even legal to carry this type of flashlight? All schools have their own policies on conceal weapons. Some will even allow concealed firearms.
A flash light is not a weapon so you should have no problems carrying one. Worst case, one could argue that it is an improvised weapon, but anything could be an improvised weapon.

What is one of the best weapon lights for pistols? What is one of the best weapon lights for pistols, particularly one of a Sig Sauer. I though maybe the SureFire x400 weapon light, but then again I'd like to be more positive. The Surefire is very good, and the Streamlight TLR series is just as good for about the same price. Sig has their own light now that I have tried and is top quality.

Weapon mounted light? What size mount do I need for a Surefire G2 or a Surefire Z2 for my AR? I was thinking of a mount from CAA. Also, can I use 1 inch scope rings? There are weapon mount kits for such lights and most lights come with a mount per specs. One inch is a standard mount.

Should I Bring a Tactical Light to School? I have a SureFire E2D. (http://tinyurl.com/y3d9n86) I go to high school. I wanted to start bringing it in my pocket for emergencies and stuff. If a teacher or administrator saw it, could I get in trouble? It's not like I'm bringing it as self-defense or a weapon, but the flashlight edges are meant for personal defense... I wouldnt. Why would you need it? if you lose power they have emergency lights to go on. Not worth it to have just in case you get into a fight. The moment you use it in that then its classified as a weapon and you are in some trouble. I wouldnt be surprised if your school considers its a weapon. Just like you said "It's not like I'm bringing it as self-defense or a weapon, but the flashlight edges are meant for personal defense..." You know damn well its used as self defense thats why the edges are designed like that.

Questions about weapon lights...? I finished building my first AR-15 last week. I've been looking into getting a flashlight for it. I like the Streamlight TLR-1 and the Surefire X300. They appear to be pretty much the same light as far as specs go, and close to my price range. My questions are: 1.) What is the best website (cheapest price) to get these things from? 2.) Is the Surefire worth the $140 price difference over the Streamlight? Or is it just like buying the name? 3.) How do these two companies warranty plans compare? Thanks folks... It's an awesome light. Very bright, the LED is great. It uses almost no power. I've had it for about 2 years now and am still on the original batteries. And I end up using the light maybe once a week or so and I flip it on and test it every day. I've had one of the Streamlights also, not that model but one of the older ones. I think the Surefire lights are just better quality. And it will work just fine on an AR-15. They're not "made for" handguns. They're just typically used on them, but it will work just fine on an AR or shotgun. They make a replacement battery door for them with a curly cord and pressure switch just for mounting them on long guns. As far as buying one try ebay. And if you weren't planning on using it for hunting it would be even better. Every non-military self defense long gun needs a light on it. You can't shoot what you can't see. And with non-hunting uses if you can't identify the target as an immediate threat, then you have no reason to shoot it.

Mossberg 500 light mounting question? I have a Mossberg 500 and i'm looking for tactical light mounting options. I have a picatinny mount on top of the weapon, but i'd rather not mount the light there for obvious reasons, it'll block vision. Anyways, SureFire produces a forend replacement with a tactical light holder. It sure is nice, but I can't decided if it's $250 nice. I don't believe there is enough space to mount the light below the end of the barrel due to how far the forend extends while pumping. Whatcha think? not sure what to think

Weapon light a home defense necessity? Hey I've been considering getting a surefire forend light for my home defense shotgun. In your opinion, if god forbid the day came when a violent attacker entered your home is a tactical light really necessary? Will your eyes be adjusted to the dark? I've had different situations happen which make me believe that a light is a great idea.
Once at 3am I heard my front security door handle jiggling. I immediately get up and retrieve the home defense gun (with a light attached)
I then hear the door opening.
I wake the wife and send her to the safe room with the kids.
I position myself in a position of cover and aim my gun at the door.
As the second door is opened, I see a guy walking in.
I immediately flash the light at this "intruder" only to realize that it's my brother that just flew in from out of state.
He wanted to surprise me and spend the week with the family.
If I had no light and was unable to identify my target, it could have ended badly.
I just believe that you should use the proper tools for the job.
Most of the home invasions,burglaries and robberies in the home occur in the "dark hours"

If you turn on the lights in the house, you give away your position as well as the position of every obstacle in your house.if you don't have a light and the intruder does, he has an advantage.
You don't need to turn it on if the lighting is sufficient in your home but if it's too dark to see, the light will be as important as your gun.

Who manufactures the Marine Corps M16a4/M16 recievers? I'm building an AR15 to be a Marine Corps clone of the M16A4. I already bought a Bushmaster 20'' A3 flattop upper receiver and have the Knights Armament M5 ras rail, and the Trijicon TA31RCO-A4 with the Killflash and i have a Surefire M961XM07 weapon light. Can I tactically modify a Remington 870? Just recently I was given a brand new Remington 870 shotgun as a gift. It is a great gun, and my father was telling me just how many modifications/accessories there are for it. I have been looking on the internet and am trying to find some tactical mods for the gun. For example, surefire light attachment under the barrel, as well as perhaps rail mounts for tactical sights, shorter barrel, stocks, ext? I have found a few on the net, but I am under the impression that you need a diferent version of the 870, true or false? Just any general information about modifying this great weapon is appreciated too. Thanks Mick I have been hearing the word "tactical" used in reference to firearm accessories for years now and still not exactly sure what it means as you and others seem to use the word.
Since I do have a couple of degrees in military history and "tactics", you would think that it would be clear, but I'm still trying to get a mental grasp on why the word 'tactical' has come to mean black plastic accessories that bolt on a firearm and usually means a ridiculous amount of useless and sometimes dangerous accessories like lazers, lights and the like.
I can see why a policeman may need a light on a gun....but for defending my home from an intruder, the last thing I want is to give away my position, sacrificing my home turf advantage.
The term that applies much better I think is "Mall Ninja".
Semantics aside, you can buy a whole buch of stuff for your Remington 870 that should work.....barrels, stocks, magazines, clamp on weaver/picatinny rails, etc. Be careful about spending a lot....most likely the model you want is actually sold like you would like it set up and you may do better to buy a synthetic stock and short barrel model outright than to change all the parts off your hunting model.
