Night vision. Humans cant see the infra-red part of the spectrum.
So when in combination with night vision goggles you can see the objects that the infra-red light illuminates but someone without night vision goggles can't see the light.

Are surefire flashlights really worth their money? how is there beam quality, battery life, ect? They are expensive as are the Lithium batteries, but I have never seen a longer lasting brighter flashlight in my lifetime. I used to be a big fan of Halogen flashlights like the Mag-Lite, but since these new LED lights have hit the market, I've moved up, and will never look back. Their "Tactical" lights are extremely popular with my Police Customers as well as Hunters..The batteries last 8-10 times longer than Alkaline batteries and the LED beam is actually much brighter. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone.....
what type of crime is it to shine a surefire flashlight in somebody's eyes when driving on a dark road? Driving on Halloween night in the rain and it is dark. Out of nowhere a flashlight stream of great intensity hits my eyes. Can not see to keep car under control. Don't know if it is robbery /car jacking etc.Stop and tell people to get to proper side of road and am blasted in eyes again...Get out of car and I am screaming at the party holding the flashlight and they beat the shit out of me.. Normally called a crime of stupidity. This is when the stupid cops pull you out of your car and smack you around some, just for being stupid.

What are the best LED flashlights out there? A friend of mine let me borrow his surefire led flashlight to take camping. It was awesome. Small, light, tough, very bright and waterproof. I know that surefires are expensive. But are they the best? Are there any other companies that make similar or better LED flashlights?
Cheaper? The main thing I want them to have is to be tough, reliable, bright and waterproof. A lifetime warranty or better would be awesome as well as it seems that most if not all of surefire's flashlights come with one.

I also have a 3 watt Maglite AA. It puts out great light but, it's tempermental at times - batteries, contacts, some days it just doesn't like me. Other than that it's a good size, with a good reflector, and good light out put. My complaint is that you need two hands to turn it on and you can't get the accessory push button switch.
Pelican head lamps are very good too - unconditional lifetime warranty, very durable, go with the LED as the others can drain batteries quickly.
