What is the infrared light for in a surefire flashlight? Can you see it? What is it for? It's a strange thing that surefire, the combat flashlight manufacturer, made a flashlight that has an infrared LED bulb. What is it for even if you can't see it well?
Night vision. Humans cant see the infra-red part of the spectrum.
So when in combination with night vision goggles you can see the objects that the infra-red light illuminates but someone without night vision goggles can't see the light.
Who here owns a surefire flashlight? I have a A-2 Aviator but want the M-6 Guardian. I've got one. I've had it for about 4 years and it has been great. They do eat batteries however so its best to buy in bulk. Mine is a 120 lumens model is tremendously bright. I seldom get caught without it.

I don't remember the steps involved but the one for the regular 500 model will fit your 590. Nothing more than a screwdriver needed and you can do it in under an hour.

Which is the best Surefire flashlight for patrol, and why? I was thinking of getting an 8AX Commander, but I would like to get some opinions from others before I make a decision. Thanks!
I carry two flashlights.

It's both LED and Halogen bulb, great for long nights or traffic directing or searching in the dark for a suspect
2) Night-ops Gladius-

It's a high powered LED that fits easily in the hand to use with a weapon. It's 3 modes; full on; strobe and step light are perfect for building searches and clearing areas while maintaining light discipline and it fits nicely on the belt so you always have it with you.
Which is a better flashlight, Surefire or Streamlight? I think Surefire makes better flashlights, but Streamlight is less expensive. STREAMLIGHT
what type of crime is it to shine a surefire flashlight in somebody's eyes when driving on a dark road? Driving on Halloween night in the rain and it is dark. Out of nowhere a flashlight stream of great intensity hits my eyes. Can not see to keep car under control. Don't know if it is robbery /car jacking etc.Stop and tell people to get to proper side of road and am blasted in eyes again...Get out of car and I am screaming at the party holding the flashlight and they beat the shit out of me.. Normally called a crime of stupidity. This is when the stupid cops pull you out of your car and smack you around some, just for being stupid.

How long will it last before the batteries get drained? a own a Surefire C2 Centurion with a P60 lamp. and am very satisfy about its performance. lt has 60 minutes run time before the battery drains up.
