Are you allowed to bring a strobe light in your suitcase on a plane? I'm going on a trip to Boston this week to visit some old friends. We all love to party, and I'm the only one who has a strobe light. Does anyone know if you're allowed to bring a strobe like in your suitcase (not your carry-on) onto a plane. Because I know they check the suitcases, but would they not allow it? Thanks so much! Strobe lights are not on the list of restricted or prohibited items for either carry on or check-in luggage. What electronic component makes a strobe light strobe? In a strobe light there is obviously a power source and then something that stops the passing of voltage to a certain point where it builds up then releases it all at once. What might this component be called? Thats not how a strobe works. The tube is similar to that in a flash gun. It relies on a large capacitor charged to a highish voltage (this is done using a step up transformer and high frequency ocillator then rectifying the result). The flash is then triggered by a short second very high voltage pulse from another transformer - this ionises the gas in the tube and the main capacitor discharges through it. The frequency at which this trigger is applied determines how fast the tube flashes.
If more control is needed a thyristor can be used to cut off the main capacitor.

Strobe light? i want to have like a mini party, and we are going to listen to techno music in a dark room. i was thinking, it would be cool to have a strobe light! but we dont have one, but then i was thinking, there are four deskrop computers with large monitore along one of the walls, is there a program that i can download that can make the computer act like a strobe light? windows media player has a visualization screen saver. just mute all your computers and loop songs so that the visualizations are always on. they have a variety of visualization screens. i do that all the time. lol... i'm happy i to know i'm not the only one who has listening parties. lol

How can I design a 12V power supply for strobe light with switch? I am trying to design a 12 power supply for a strobe light that will be mounted on my bicycle. OPTX is the brand. Are you referring to a bright White strobe light or a Red strobe light? You can use a small sealed lead acid battery feeding a timer circuit that will power LED's which consume very little power.

How many frames per second does a camera have to have to handle a strobe light.? I used a strobe light on some videos but even when I put the strobe light on a slow setting the flash itself is so quick the camera (30 fps) goes down to like 5 fps. It sux! FPS should not change unless you can change it manually on your camcorder - but you did not tell us which camcorder, so we have no way to know if that is even possible.
Shutter speed might change (decrease), though (because you darkened the lights to use the strobe). What effect are you trying to do? The strobe and poor ambient lighting is confusing the automatic shutter speed, aperture and likely the focus. Put all into manual when the lighting is normal/good, then go to the strobe and see what happens.

Anyone ever try those strobe light evictors-are they effective? Will an ordinary high powered strobe work? This is a good question and one we considered when we developed the Squirrel Evictor Strobe Light. First, the clear lens allows more light to penetrate the desired area and the proprietary bulb that we use is much more powerful than an ordinary disco type strobe light. Second, it pulses at a slower rate and is so annoying it actually makes you sick at your stomach when viewed in a totally dark room.
