This scene was really hard to write. Can anyone offer me some critiques? Parker whistled an old show tune as he walked through the cargo hold to reach the stairs to the top deck. Aluminum storage boxes towered over him on every side, blocking out most of the light from the bulbs on the walls. The glowing circle of light cast by his flashlight bobbed with his every step, ricocheting off the walls, crates, and ceiling. He heard a crash ahead of him and broke into a run, flashlight swinging from a cord around his wrist. “Who’s there?” he called, panting. He reached the end of the row and paused to listen, but the cavernous room had fallen into a dead silence. He craned his head to the left and right, but saw nothing and no one. After a moment of indecision, he dashed to the right, footsteps echoing loudly on the metal floor. He heard another crash behind him, and spun around, sprinting in the opposite direction. He arrived at the end of the aisle, where he was positive he had heard the noise, but no one was there. Another crash sounded from across the room, and Parker called out again. “Who’s there?” No answer. He backed into the corner, readjusting the flashlight in his grip. It would be a more weapon, but if necessary he would be able to use it as a club. “I know there’s someone there!” Parker’s voice trembled with fright and the words came out with a squeak. “Hello? Oliver? Is that you?” Another crash, closer this time. “Come on, you’re not funny Oliver! Oliver?” A heavy boot scuffed the floor down the aisle from Parker. He turned, straining his eyes to see who was there. A heavy object landed a hard blow on the back of his head, knocking him to the floor. His consciousness flickered. He moaned. Another blow, on his hip. The hard-soled boot he had heard collided with his stomach. More blows, again and again and again. His head was damp with blood, and every part of him that was not numb from shock throbbed, pain coursing through his body. He coughed, and blood dripped down his chin. The metallic taste was acrid on his tongue. Was that his mother he could hear? I’m so disappointed in you Parker. His father? Where did we go wrong? You’re a failure. He groaned. Another blow, a kick to his face. Something crunched. His nose? Blood dripped down his cheek to the floor, joining the already present pool, slowly growing in size. His college roommate Anthony’s voice joined his parents’. Why’d you have to go and get all doped up man? I had my whole life. His old girlfriend, Bethany. I said no. Why didn’t you understand? Were you too high. The college dean. You cheated. I had no choice. You were a bright boy… I told them to check for weapons. The chorus of voices was overwhelming. Soon he could no longer differentiate between words and the throbbing of his head. Make it stop. The sole of a boot pressed down on his neck, pushing¸ choking A snap. He hadn’t realized he’d spoken out loud. This scene literally had me almost in tears. How is it? I've never really written a violent scene like this before. Also some parts are supposed to be in italics, where he is thinking something or where he is imagining other people saying something to him. I thought it was great!!

What type of battery does an energizer flashlight keychain use? Ok, I got a grey energizer keychain led shaped like a small flashlight from some charity for a dollar. I considered it a very good bargain, charity + led flashlight = excellent value for your money. It says made in china. Now the problem is they didn't give me a manual, I asked today for one and they don't know. I opened it up and there seems to be a very very small space for a battery. Tried an extremely small energizer battery for clocks, but it didn't work. Checked the energizer site and couldn't find it either. So does anyone know what sort of battery this thing could use? IT's shaped like a small grey flashlight, with two black ends. The light end is black and rotates(it seems this is what turns it on and off.), and can be snapped off. I hope the description helps. What I thought was the compartment was a few millimeters widex a few mm longx a few mm deep. So to see if that was truly the compartment, I split open the keychain along a seam. It seems to have been designed to be dispossable, but I managed to overcome that design flaw. Though I did touch some blue powderish thing that was around one of the batteries(it had two small batteries inside), I cleaned my hands and I hope it's nontoxic. Anyway, the batteries I found inside appear to be round silverish clock type batteries. I'll have to figure out what they're called given there are many different but similar clock batteries available in stores. Does the battery compartment look like it will take the regular AAA type or button type batteries? What is the inside diameter of the battery compartment and it's length and depth?
More info: Can you look on the battery itself and see what kind of numbers or letters are on it? They generally tell you what they are. That blueish stuff could be the chemicals that make up the battery. You would also have to clean the compartment of this stuff prior to installing new batteries. good luck

Did I ruin my espresso machine? I spilled water on the motor? When I was pouring water into the tank a little spilled out and went threw the grate and I hear a snap & now the machine will not turn on. I looked threw it with a flashlight and see some water on that green computer looking board. What can I do? Or is it ruined ? Should I try to dry it with a hair dryer? You probably shorted out the printed circuit board. But, let it dry for a couple of days to make sure its dry then try it again. You might get lucky and it doesn't cost anything. There is also a remote possibility that you popped a circuit breaker either on the machine or in your house. Check that too. Last possibility is to take it to a small appliance repair shop. That will not be cheap but cheaper than buying a new machine.

Suspicious Signs of Paranormal Activity? I was at my friend's house and we were in her room talking on her bed. We weren't able to sleep so we were talking about our dreams. I was just getting to the part of the dream where someone gets murdered and then it got pitch black; her ceiling fan light just went out. It didn't flicker, it suddenly without warning went out. The door was already closed so you couldn't see anything. Autumn, my friends, was next to me hyperventilating and crying because she is very afraid of these kinds of things like me. She couldn't move until I had to slap her and snap her out of it and she got the remote for the light and turned it on. We were freaking out and I was trying to come up for logical reasons why this happened, until the light went out again. This time though, we had the remote IN OUR HANDS, so there was no reason to explain it. We hurriedly turned the light back on and ran out of her room and stood in the hallway. All of the rooms in the house surrounded us, and we heard sounds coming out of every room - Autumn's brother's rooms, her parent's room, the bathroom. We freaked out and had to stay in her brother's room before deciding to go back in Autumn's room. When we checked her room again after an hour of staying with her brother, the lights were on. Note that the lights only turned off when we were in it. We tried to go back in and dimmed the lights a little and I held tightly to the remote the whole time we were in there. I fell asleep clutching the remote with Autumn grasping a flashlight and nothing happened. The odd part was while we were asleep, we were awake. When her mom came in her room at 5:00 am we saw her go in and immediately sat up, thus concluding that we were half asleep half awake. Sorry it's so long, but that's our story. when you read the paragraph, it doesnt seem as bad as it was. it was pretty scary because just before my mom was explaining about how her grandma or somebody was visited by her ancestors, and we got on the topic of paranormal things.
my mom one time experienced paralysis; she couldnt move or talk. she said it felt like she was hovering and something was inside of her. the fact that paranormal things happened in our house makes it all the more scarier.

You will need to buy some black lights from your local dollar store, as many as possible is recommended. Replace all regular light bulbs with the black lights for the party. Your party be in the evening, but if you want it during the day, pick up some plain black sheets and drape all windows and doors with the sheets to keep the daylight from entering your party atmosphere. Along with your black lights, if it is possible to get strobe lights or a disco ball, go for it! Add a very fun impact to your dance floor. Also, make sure that the balloons, streamers and confetti are all white or lime green so that they will glow in the black lights. white balloons are the best, just put the glow stick (snap it on) inside the balloons and tie-it with a string around the wall or up from the ceiling. Buy some glow in the dark paint that is invisible unless it is dark and make loads of banners to put on your walls. Let guests paint on the banners if they'd like. Buy some big star glow in the dark stickers and stick them up on walls and your ceiling. There are tons of creative activities that you can have at your glow in the dark party. Also if you wish, buy some temporary neon hair dye and streak your guests hair to glow in the dark! I will get it now.” I turned away from my mother and walked towards the front door. I heard my mothers heavy footsteps head for the kitchen and when she was out of sight, I reached behind the plant sitting next to the door, and pulled out a flashlight. I had left one there, just in case I ever needed one when the power went out. Hopefully, it still had enough power left in it. I stepped outside, immediately getting hit by the cold. I still had my parka on but the cold felt as if it was seeping into it. I turned on the flashlight, shining it into the dark and forbidden trees. I walked quickly down the long dirt road that was my driveway. My house wasn’t in the middle of nowhere, but it was the only one on this street. When my mother and I had first moved here a year ago, I always thought that living in a small house surrounded by the woods would be fun, especially since I liked the quiet and serene feeling I got out here. It made being the new girl back then that much easier. Of course, I was still considered the new girl, for no one else had transferred to my school since I had gotten here. Plus, I had never really fit in with the people here. I was an outcast and clearly not accepted by anyone. I shook my head, forgetting the feeling of loneliness that had begun to spread through my veins like ice. I made my way down to the end of the driveway. When I walked into the kitchen, my mother was scurring around our small kitchen, cooking like there was no tomorrow. I leaned against the door frame and crossed my arms, watching my erratic mother doing what she does best, cook. She glanced up at me from the counter where she was cutting some lettace. “Well are you going to stand there or are you going to help me with the salad?” She asked, somewhat angry. I walked over to her and took the knife from her. I began to cut the lettace like she had taught me when I was little. It was silent in the kitchen, somewhat uncomfortable. I didn’t mind the quiet too much but my mother had a look on her face like she had something to say to me. I didn’t understand it but I wasn’t going to say anything. Of course, that didn’t stop her from saying something. “Honey, I am sorry that I have been a bit off for the past few months. I know that you don’t like living here,” I began to cut her off and say that I didn’t mind living here, but she held her finger up to me. I allowed her to finish. “I just want you to be happy though. It is hard moving to a new place and adjusting, that’s why I have been so off. You know that we’re struggling with money and I am having to work double time just to make enough for us to pay the mortgage each month.” I could tell she was just rambling. This was not what was bothering her. “Mother, please tell me what is going on because I know this isn’t it.” She looked at me, her ocean blue eyes sparkling in the light. They were full of guilt. “The deal is that… if I don’t get enough money to pay for everything this month, we might get forclosed and have to move somewhere else. That means that if we move, we will have to move in with your Aunt Sue.” I stared at her in shock. A forclosure? That couldn’t be true. I hadn’t spent any money this month, so how could we have run out? Plus, she said we would have had to move again. I finally realized that my mout Your writing is well developed and you have a good grasp on flow and continuity. I would suggest separating the dialogue from the paragraphs, and maybe dividing the paragraphs themselves; the huge sections were very hard to read on here (although I have a feeling that you may have done that just to save room here).
The only thing that I'm very confused about is what your story line is meant to be. In the short excerpt you've put up, you've got elements of both fantasy/horror and young adult drama, so I'm not sure what genre you're aiming for (personally, I'm hoping for a fantasy or horror!). Again, I'm assuming that, due to the short space here, you just haven't been able to develop the story too much.
Other then that, you've got a solid start and I enjoyed what I read. And thanks for editing - it shows you care about your story and your readers.

What can be done to get rid of the mice and/or rat problem at hotel? I live in one of those extended stay-type of hotels. I have lived here for a little over one year and have never had issues with mice and rats here. The management moved me to another room because they needed to do something to the room. Fine. Well, the room they moved me to, happens to be a hot spot for mice and/or rats. And, no I didn't know this until my sightings of the mice (I think the last one I saw was actually a rat). Now, the Orkin man has came out to confirm this hotel does have mice and was in my room because he saw the mouse poop. He came back out again because of the frequent sightings I have of these mice and the last time he claims rats are here. OK. I don't know how bad the infestation is at this hotel, but it can't be thaaaat bad because I've never seen them before here only some roaches, a couple of crickets and silverfish. I mean, even the other rooms they've moved me to, since I have been living here, didn't have this problem either. My trash never gets full, but I'll take it out before I go to sleep or done going into the kitchen. I am also organized and live in a free of clutter space. I didn't realize that my closed and bagged whole wheat loaf of bread on the counter was a problem and largely because I have done this for over 15 years and never had issues with mice or rats - I even did this in the previous rooms I was in and no mice or rats. But the mouse or rat really wanted my bread in this room (ate a rather nice portion of bread after eating/clawing/tearing through the back of the loaf). This room is different for some odd reason. Anyway, the Orkin man seems to believe that the hotel's kitchen (the hotel serves a limited breakfast in the mornings) is the source of the problem, but the hotel was shifting the blame on a guest who according to the management says has a room who is awful (like an unorganized hoarder). But it's interesting that the Orkin man says the source to be the hotel's kitchen because the room they temporarily moved me to is directly across the hall from their housekeeping and personnel storage room and those rooms are directly above the kitchen. The other rooms I've lived in were not near the kitchen so maybe that's why I never experienced this rodent issue of theirs. Nevertheless, they keep telling the Orkin man to lay out extra sticky traps in my room and recently told him to put out a snap trap, which he highly did not approve of, but the management told him to call his supervisor so that they could get what they wanted (the snap traps). So now there is a snap trap in my room and other rooms (according to the Orkin man). I have seen about four rodents in my room and they are dodging the traps, well all but one rodent. After my first sighting, the hotel's maintenance plugged up many of the openings he felt a rodent could enter. However, he keeps underestimating the ability of these rodents and therefore did not plug up everything like he said he did. I've found openings (cracks and holes) that were not plugged up. But he swears they can't even fit through a hole where the dishwasher hose goes. He used a foam expanding substance, too. Well, the other three that I saw were after him plugging up the cracks and holes that met his requirements (lol). He has no idea where or how they are entering my room, he is like dumbfounded. He was on his knees just looking into space trying to figure it out. The Orkin man has no idea how they are still able to enter my room after he did a brush look with a flashlight of what the maintenance plugged up. He didn't look thoroughly though for whatever reason. After they left I found another hole without a flashlight--and in an area they used flashlights to check. So of course I called the maintenance to have him fill it up, he took a steel wool pad on my sink and stuffed it. Even though I told him that the rodent(s) ate through the mouse trap I made with steel wool wrapped around a glob of peanut butter (whatever it was wanted that peanut butter), which confused me because I've read online that mice don't do that. Well, the mice over here appears to be a different breed then. I don't know if the rodent(s) has found a place in this room to live or what, but I've checked this room pulling out stuff and checking inside things. But I don't know if the rodents are merely moving until I'm done inspecting it's "living space/hideout" and then going back after I'm done. I've plugged up cracks and holes. But the rat or mouse still enters. I think the management here just wants to do what will cost them the least amount of money. However, the traps are not working. Another pest control representative I spoke with said if there is one their will be eight more. So I have no idea how many are in this hotel (it's a two story - not that that matters, right). So, will calling the health department be of any g Will it push them to use more effective methods to get rid of these mice and/or rats? (A colleague told me they can "bomb" the inside of the walls to kill the rodents.) Also, if they don't act within the health department's time frame what will happen? I've read that peppermint oil will repel the mice (I don't know about rats) - does that really work? How about those sonic wave repeller things you plug into the outlets in the wall - do they work? Which brands are most effective in peppermint oil and the wall plug things? I have tried cayenne pepper, steel wool with and without peanut butter by myself and it doesn't work. I have ensured my place is clean every day (I'm already a clean and organized person - no clutter) and still they keep coming back to this room. I've never had this issue with rodents until they moved me into this room and I've been here for a little over 1 year. Thanks for your help. I would definately complain. Hotels of any kind are under quite a few regulations about pests & the owner/manager needs to fix the issue immediately. Rodent droppings are a big health hazard.

How do I open this flashlight to install its batteries? I recently purchased an Energizer Hard Case Inspection Light (TUFPL22PE)--a very cool, portable flashlight--and, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to open the durned thing to install its batteries. There appears to be a cap on its butt-end, but I don't know if I should squeeze it, twist it, turn it, pry it, or what. And I don't want to force any of the above in fear that I might snap it off. There are no instructions on the packing material, the flashlight itself, or the Energizer web site. And an additional web search has been fruitless. I have uploaded a question to the Energizer people, but who knows if I'll get an answer. Any clues? Take it back to the store from which it was purchased and let them tell you. If they can't, then tell them that it fails the implied warranty test and you want it replaced.
