Best Self Defense Flashlight? I have the SureFire Z2, but i think the lamp needs to be replaced. The life of the battery doesn't seem to last long at all. Is there any bright flashlights for home self defense or general use that has a longer battery/lamp life to it. I would use it with my Sig hand gun as well. I've had a small mag-light for around a year, and it works very well, the battery life is quite long. The only down side is the bulb is very delicate and breaks rather easily, but the torch itself comes with a spare.

question about self defense, protecting yourself? In the name of defending yourself, can you hypothetically speaking you know use a noise maker horn that you'd use at football games/ graduations and blow out someones ear drums if that person suddenly attacked you and tried to do you bodily harm and you happened to only have that on your person, would that be okay? They can't press charges on you because there there the one that came up on to you in your personal space right? As a matter of fact is any kind of self defense okay as long as you don't kill the person or is there a limit to protecting yourself with out out having charges pressed against you? BUT WAIT, if you smack an intruder in the head with a flashlight, and kill them, would you be charged for manslaughter if that person forced entree into your house? How far does self defense go?(These are all hypothetical questions by the way) 1) Air horn, if I use it for continuing calls crank callers, then i would hypothetically say it would probably be OK.
2) Self Defense can be looked at under wikipedia: Use of Force Continuum, amount needed to subdue the attacker from further harm to you.
3) Intruder should be within confines of house when dead not half in half out or in front yard.
4) Self Defense goes as far as you can justify the means equal to the ends.

Whats your one gun home defense? In Iraq you can have only one gun for self-defense. What would your surplus gun be? ak47? old 12ga shotgun? Rpd? remember it has to be something native to the country. I would have a aks-74u 5.45x39mm short barreled assault rifle with a sling, 45rd magazines ( if I could find any), and a large flashlight like the kind you buy from wal-mart with the over sized battery and top carrying handle tied to the bottom of the gun for night defense. like your choice, low recoiling select fire assault rifle in the same caliber. but no flashlight, I'll have a large compensator and flash suppressor though. I'd get as many 40 rd hi capacity (that's above standard factory capacity) magazines as possible, and 5.45x39mm SP ammo.
Mine is simple. a AK74 under folding stock assault rifle and swap out the standard barrel for a 9.5" krink one.
If I live in a big house with room to use a bigger gun, a CETME .308 select fire rifle will do. non-folding stock and some imported aftermarket 100 round dual drum magazines. Pricey mil-spec .308 SP rounds modern manufacture will be the ammo I use, its not gunky like the cheaper stuff and SP bullets has better performance than FMJ bullets. I'll had a box of 50 regular 20 rd magazines too. And a hefty muzzle brake to increase control. To deal with attackers in vehicles I'm sure I can get some AP steel core (or harder) .308 ammo, three 20 rd magazines at the least, I could probably hole a couple engine blocks with that.
A CETME is probably a little above what the average Iraq citizen may choose, but i know its available there. .308 is a NATO cartridge (as 7.62x51mm), so there'll be guns from other past military events and such. its much more power than the AK47 has by a good deal, not a top choice for most people there. However apparently a popular choice for people in the US to defend their homes (or SHTF gun) with.

Hi which of the 2 flashlight is better to use for self defense in the dark?Fenix P3D,SureFire E2D or Olight? Sorry I mean 3 flashlights. For self-defense, the flashlight I prefer is a nice 3-Cell D MAGLITE with an LED inserted. Fits nicely into the palm of my hand, and has a lot of weight for that outstanding skull-cracking effect. Tough-won't shatter if you drop it down three stories onto the steel deck of Shaft Alley (I speak from personal experience), or if you repeatedly brain some one assaulting you (I'm guessing). Plus, the LED is bright enough to blind people in the dark, gives you plenty of illumination so afterwards you can examine the soft mush that was once the head of your attacker. You can even start to clean off the blood if you remove the lens and take it into candle mode!
In conclusion, if you want self-defense from a Flashlight, you want a MAGLITE. Just my opinion, of course.

How do you store and keep your self defense weapon ready?? Do you keep the mag inserted? Keep the mag out? How many loaded mags? Keep a round in the chamber? Keep the gun in a lock box? In your night stand drawer? A couple gun's in different parts of your house? Mags in different parts of your house? Under lock and key in some way? Have a self defense kit (ie flashlight, mase, taser, alarm whistle, etc) What ammo do you use for self defense? Mag in, fully loaded. Sometimes I have a round in the chamber, hammer down. Safety off.
When friends or family come by
Mag in, fully loaded, no round in chamber, safety off. (I keep the gun still hidden though, but if they do end up looking at it)
I stash my guns wherever I feel necessary, drawer, near the TV, withing 5 feet of reach. Keep one extra loaded mag, or two. Anymore you will fumble with and it will get you killed.
Never put the gun in the lock box unless I'm leaving the house, or children are around.
No self defense kit, my 92fs night sights is my defense kit.
I use 9mm 124gr FMJ. HP is also very good but then you lose some reliability. In my eyes, I'd rather have my gun go bang every time. Either one is great. I also have a .45 but that's a bit too much recoil and muzzle flash especially in a night time situation.

Hi do you recommend a LED flashlight for self defense instead of pepper spray? I bought one for my wife. A little back story. Surefire brand flashlights are currently used by our military it turns night into day it is the brightest flashlight you will ever see. Their are numerous law enforcement agencies that use it as well in particular SWAT teams love them for how small they are. This flashlight easily fits into the palm of your hand. It is waterproof and its all metal. I forget specifically what kind buts its extremely light weight and it will never break. I read reviews about cops who took their old surefires to the range and shot them with their gun and they still worked. Finally at the end of the flashlight by the bulb instead of being smooth its jagged. You use this flashlight to blind someone and then hit them in the head and they will go down. I think taser guns are illegal in california. peper spray is ok but if there is a wind and it blows it back in your face your screwed. Spend the money get a surefire. If the military trust their lives with it, i would be comfortable trusting mine to it.

Question regarding self-defense against a lethal force? I'll start off with a hypothetical situation in which you have a gun (with license for all legal purposes) but you don't want to use it unless completely necessary: A man starts approaching you at night with no one around. You shine a flashlight at the man and ask who is he and what he wants. He responds by saying he has a bat and he's gonna take your money. You then tell him you are armed (but not that you have a gun). He threatens to kill you if you don't give him your money so you give him everything you have. He then precedes to attack you with his bat. You try to spray him with mace, but he knocks it out of your reach. According to a gun safety course i recently took, since your life is in danger, and you've done everything in your power to avoid using your handgun, you may now use it in self-defense without legal repercussion. Now for my question: According to the policeman i received the course from, even in self-defense, you can be held legally accountable for punching any person, unless you are a law enforcement attempting to restrain someone. In this situation can you be held accountable for using physical force (hitting, kicking, tackling) in an attempt to save yourself and restrain your attack without risking his life? I know it sounds stupid, but i've heard a lot of stories about people being convicted of a crime that seemed perfectly excusable at the time due to unclarity of a law. Also, would the situation be different if he was attacking with a knife? (more lethal than a bat) And what would happen if rather than using my fists or his bat in an attempt to save my life, i stabbed him with his knife or a small knife i had for work? (more lethal than a punch, but still not as much of a threat to his life as a gun shot would be while waiting for an ambulance) In Texas just the threat of severe bodily injury from the man with the bat is enough to justify you shooting him to death! You can defend yourself against any severe physical harm by with the use of deadly force. Some states have laws that say that you have to try to escape from your home when someone breaks in or that you have to determine if they are a threat or not before you use deadly force against them. Those states are stupid, period. I am not going to run from my own house, nor am I going to wait and find out if the intruder is a threat or not! You break in to my house and you get shot! If you survive you get shot again! Texas has the Castle Doctrine that makes it legal for you to shoot and kill anyone breaking into your home or car! They have deemed your car to be an extension of your home!

All you have to do is look up the Castle Doctrine and Texas laws! I only stated the facts! You can defend yourself with lethal force to protect yourself or others from severe bodily injury or death!

Flashlight for self defense on College campus? Is this legal? Im am thinking about buying a small flashlight for keeping in my pocket for when I walk late at night from my classes to the dorms (which happen to be on the other side of the campus). One of the models I am looking at has uneven edges on the bottom and top, so if shinning a light and blinding an attacker doesn't work you can use the light in your fist and punch the bad guy with it. Would this be considered a weapon or just a flash light? I don't want to break any of the college's rules, but I don't want to be a sitting duck when walking alone from my classes late at night. Im also consider just a small AA maglight that could be used in a similar manner but is not as bright as the Surefire flashlight, nor does it have the "edges" at the top and bottom of the flash light. Any ideas? I don't think pepper spray is allowed, nor a tazer of some type. Is it even legal to carry this type of flashlight? All schools have their own policies on conceal weapons. Some will even allow concealed firearms.
A flash light is not a weapon so you should have no problems carrying one. Worst case, one could argue that it is an improvised weapon, but anything could be an improvised weapon.

does anyone know of a flashlight that is so bright it stuns you? does a self defense flashlight exist that is so powerful/bright that when shined in the eyes it stuns a person? Canadian Tire sells a 1 million candle power flashlight. It's super super bright and would definitly stun and possibly blind someone. It's kind of big though. Another option is a large Mag light. The beam wouldn't stun anyone, but it would make a great weapon!

And which other ones would you keep if they were readily available and/or legal? intellect animals human personal guards alarm systems heavy objects (flashlight, pipe wrench) telephones strategically located fire extinguishers irritant spray handguns shotguns fully automatic weapons over the top stuff I personally prefer the machete' and a paintball gun(semi-auto) loaded with special made 66 cal. epoxy balls. I keep a razer edge and 1500psi. Id say if your dumb (get caught) enough to get close youll get a ravor sharp suprise. From 20 feet I can shoot through 1/4 plywood stayback further than that and YOu might be able to run off with a few serious bruses.
