Which A/V Reciver to buy?? URGENT HELP!!!!? I want to buy an A/V receiver for my yet-to-be-set-up hometheater. I will be watching abt 30% action movies/music (metal \m/), 30% gaming and the rest cable. After a week long reading on the web I have shortlisted the below that are within my budget. To decide which one, that's where I am confused now Pioneer VSX-1019 Yamaha RX-V765 Yamaha RX-V665 Onkyo TX-SR607 Denon AVR-1910 Also, what make of speakers would go well with these receivers? Your assistance will be highly appreciated. I'm not going to try to pick between the 5 models. Any of them will work well for you.
You have picked the best manufacturers and, at the same price point, all offer equivalent performance. That said, there are small differences each manufacturer adds to try to differentiate ... and one or other of these might matter to you. However, I can't guess your preferences so my advice is to look at the features and specs carefully and pick based on which model gives you the best "bang for the buck".
Consider the following in particular:
- price
- warranty
- style (does on appeal more visually)
- number of HDMI inputs
- are they simply video passthrough or do they switch video and carry audio to the receiver
- distortion level for the amplifier(s) ... but compare the same thing!
- ability to assign input jacks to specific inputs (e.g. DVD, SAT)
- number of switchable inputs (and is there a phono input if you need one)
- are inputs re-nameable?
- Advanced audio format decoding? (e.g. DTS HD Master)
- an automated acoustic calibration facility built in? If so does it have a graphical interface (no effect on performance, but looks nice!)
Note I haven't mentioned power or number of channels. That's because power is pretty much a non issue at the same price range. A difference (rated the same way, e.g. rms) of less than even 50% is pretty much irrelevant since doubling the power makes only 3 dB difference to the loudness. Again, at the same price level, all the receivers will be similar (7.1, 2nd zone, etc)
You could look for upscaling and transcoding capability, but it's almost always better to upscale externally if possible since video processing in lower end receivers isn't going to be great.
Finally, once you have made a choice look at user comments on AVS forum before actually buying (see link).
I will guarantee that whichever of those receivers you pick you will (barring a lemon) be happy with it ... and yet be ready to trade for a new one with new great features, more power, etc within 2-3 years.
As for speakers, there are literally hundreds of good choices. The list at the 2nd link is a good place to start. Brands like Klipsch, Definitive Technology, Kef, Tannoy, Boston, are all good bets. There is a link on the left side of the page at the 2nd link to a list of best receivers ... may be useful. Buy the best speakers you can ... much more important than the receiver ... they can last a lifetime. I have some 35 yr old Snell speakers that are still great.

Is the pioneer vsx 1019 the best receiver? Compared to the yamaha rx v665 and the pioneer vsx 1020 for the money. Onkyo tend to have the best entry level amps but either of those should be fine. Best advice is to go to the store and ask for a demo of both. Then pick the one you like best
