have been using this brand for years at work.
i have tried a couple wind up lights in my vehicle and they dont last. i think the temp and humidity swings have an effect on generator and/or battery. i now have an LED 2 cell for the car now. it holds up fine.
i've had good luck with this wind up from radio shack. keep it in the house near crawl space for emergency reasons. tornado/asteroid strike or nuke fall out. (gosh i hope none of this ever happens)

Why don't rechargeable digital camera batteries work in my flashlights and other products? ? Rechargeable digital camera batteries work in toothbrush, but not in flashlights, thermostat, weather station etc. Many products specify to use only alkaline batteries. Thanks Recharchable batteries provide a slightly lower voltage than alakaline ones (for example 2.5 vs 2.9 or so). Many devices require full power to work properly.

Telephones
There is a prohibition against completing things ("the final blow of a hammer..."), which includes the completion of circuits. Telephones fall under this category, as do radios, televisions, and all electricity. It also happens to be an area that, when observed, provides one of the most pleasurable aspects of Shabbat. The island of peace that you wish to reach can be achieved only through the beautiful silence of no ringing phones.
How to approach it: You may want family and friends to know that you will be unavailable by phone during Shabbat. People usually catch on quickly and just take it in stride that they must wait until Saturday night to call. If you really want a Shabbat atmosphere, unplug the phones so you won't be disturbed by the ringing.
Lights
This also falls under completing a circuit, as discussed under telephones.
How to approach it: Decide which lights should be left on and which left off before Shabbat begins. You may want to tape certain light switches in high-traffic areas, such as bathrooms, so they aren't inadvertently turned off or on. (Sleepy trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night often end in an automatic flip of the switch!)
Timers can be used to automatically turn lights on and off throughout Shabbat, as long as they are preset before Shabbat begins.
So your answer is no you cannot use a rechargeable flashlight during Shabbat this falls under completing a circuit.

Rechargeable flashlights? Does it really matter if you leave a rechargeable flashlight (i.e. Streamlight) in the charger? Or is it best to take it out when its done charging and recharge after draining the battery. this is a two sided answer,
refer to the manufactures suggestion on storage.
I leave my black&decker in the charger that way if the power goes off I know where to find the darn thing !

My old sears professional rechargeable flashlight quit. I work in attics and such and need a good flashlight? Sears (for some reason?) quit making their old professional rechargeable flashlight with the real glass bulb (about 4 inches in diameter) and an adjustable base so you could position it aimed at a spot while you worked. Dorcy makes one that looks the same but it's a poor imitation of a great flashlight. Doesw anyone know of a good "working" flashlight? Rechargeable would be nice but not essential. problem with rechargeable flashlight batteries? I bought 4 rechargeable 3v 123 batteries to power my surefire torch/flashlight, they charged up ok first time, but they've blown my surefire bulb twice now. I'm not putting them in again I'm just wondering why they flashed and blew the bulb instantly? I know surefire does rechargeable batteries and lithium rechargeables exist, but these have 1000mAh written on them and it scares me. Can someone educate me on electricity since I'm obviously not understanding this. good answers so far, except the 3rd. I checked and the batteries are 3v, the torch I've used for years and I'm 100% it's 6v, has always taken 2 throwaway 3v's. I'm none the wiser still. The 10000mAh means that they can last for 1000 hours with a 1 milli amp draw or 100 hours with a 10 milli amp draw. Could it be you have the wrong VOLTAGE BATTERIES? might be you need 1.5volt or 1.2 volt the extra voltage in the 3volt ones would instantly burn out the bulb. another solution could change the bulb to match the power out put you have. just add the voltage together for all the batteries required ,if two at 3v each, total is =6v. if three batt. total = 9v and so on.

is a NiMH rechargeable battery the same a a nickel cadmium rechargeable battery? I have a rechargeable flashlight that uses 4 AA sized nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries. The batteries don't charge anymore and I'm have a hard time finding new ones. I have some rechargeable AA NiMH batteries. Can I use these, or is there a huge difference between the 2 types of batteries. I'm paranoid of leaving the flashlight plugged in because I'm afraid of starting a fire. NiCd's are not that popular anymore and have been replaced with the NiMH batteries. Essentially they still function the same way. You can use the newer batteries in your flashlight and charge them the same way you always have. The charger circuit is very simple & basic and has no effect on the battery composition.
Because the charger IS very simple, you'll run into the same problem over a long period of time with your new batteries. Eventually they will become overcharged and not hold a charge anymore. On the same order as you experienced with the old batteries, but perhaps a little longer now.
You will not start any fires by leaving NiMH batteries in a charger that was made for NiCd batteries. I almost forgot to cite my source. Me. Electrical engineer for 35 years.

Looking at some other cr123 batteries for cameras and wondering if anyone has used them in their flashlight,wondering if rechargeable cr123 batteries will work? Well, yes they will, although they have a slower discharge rate (results in less juice getting out to power bulb) and a lower mAh (total charge) than primaries (not rechargeable), you do appear to lose a few lumens and definitely have less operating time (both less negatively affected using led bulbs rather than xenon). However there is a large cost savings - just depends on what's more important to you. If I was using my 3 battery (xenon still) Defender for critical purposes (law/rescue) I would use primaries. The way I use it now (seldom), it is more desirable for me to use rechargeables. I'm kind of a rechargeable freak anyway - I have many - all types. I also have a lot of led flashlights that I use rechargeables in totally.
Be sure and get high mAh (milli Amp hour) batteries, which for CR123As is going to currently mean about 1,200. The battery manufacturers keep upping the ante with secondaries (rechargeables) by increasing capacities on a regular basis.
