How do I make miniature street lights? I need to make working miniature 5 inch tall street lights for my niece's toy trains/cars. I have the led's but I don't know what to use for the actual poles. What consumes more energy, LED Xmas lights or the light bulb? I have a set of 50 LED Xmas lights and I wanna leave them all night long, but I don't wanna waste energy, what consumes more energy, the LED lights, a curly light bulb or a miniature christmas village with windows that light up, two tiny light bulbs on the ground and a LED moving message that ssays "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays" The key is the number of watts drawn. Look at the packages. The wattage will be listed somewhere. A typical LED draws about 5 milliwatts at MOST. A typical string of filament micro lamps draws about the same per bulb. Total for 50 LEDs or 50 lamps, is about 5 to 7 watts for the entire string at most, which is the same as a typical nightlight! The difference is heat. LED's are "cold" light, and filaments are "hot" light. The best LED strings use electronics to "pulse" the LEDs very quickly, like a strobe light, which reduced power drawn to about 25% of a LED string on 100% of the time. The pulsed LED type is also 4 times the cost of the lower priced constant on type. If the LED string has an electronic control that can make several different patterns is likely pulsed, which means lower average power. With the power drain for a 50 LED string so low, we are talking pennies a month to keep lit, the same as for a typical nightlight. You aren't really wasting much. I have a string of these LEDs in my upstairs hallway attached to the ceiling, running from one end to the other, which I leave on at night just like a nightlight. They provide enough light to see by just as a small nightlight used to do for about the same amount of energy. The LED moving sign is probably the largest power drain. Curly light bulb? Miniature village? The problem is scale and number of the watts each consumes. I have no information on which to base a reference.

Need an LED light array or something like that with AC power for miniature model house? A friend of mine has a really cool Japanese Tea Room model that somebody built. It has an old bulb light, kind of junky. I wanted to help him put in a durable long lasting LED light in there, or maybe an array. But I was wondering if anyone knows where to get something like that. I guess if the lights are too white / blue I can use a gel to tone down the blue a bit to normal indoor color temperature. Bottom line, I want it easy if possible. anyone know if you can get this with AC Power. Try your local hobby store or a craft store like Hobby Lobby and Michael's. The craft stores sell items for miniature houses, so they should have something for you.

How could I build a small, efficient solar panel? I am trying to come up with a term project for a class I'm in, and my current idea involves lighting miniature LED bulbs (we're talking tiny, here) with a homemade "solar" panel (I would probably in actuality use a bright light instead of the sun). Is it possible to build your own solar panel without too much crazy equipment or expenses? How would I do so? You can get a small panel at Radio Shack. If you want to go to the trouble of trying to fabricate one from the ground up, that is another matter. Modern construction techniques are beyond the scope of even a well prepared home constructor. Vacuum deposition, being one of the steps in many of the types. Not to mention the hazardous and toxic materials used in manufacture.
Now, Lindsay books had at one time a book titled "How to Construct a Solar Cell That Really Works" which would make an interesting class project in itself. It uses primarily a copper penny- Pre 1982 US. I am wondering just how small you can buy battery boxes.? I have seen them for double and triple A. I use them to build miniature lights for dollhouses. I would love it if you could use a battery as small as a watch battery to light an led or small flashlight bulb. I usually buy my components at radio shack. Ask Radio Shack for the conversion kit or check with the hobby/craft stores. If you have too, by a toy that uses the watch type battery , break apart and make own your type of box and attachment for the - and + hook up. Also look for key chain type led/waffer type battery led type light(s). I have one in my pocket 21/2" x 1" x 1/4" but cannot read the brand name.

I am making a model of a miniature eco friendly city, Please help!? We'll be making many small houses, showing different means of non-conventional power resources and their uses. One of the house will have a small LED light, which will be using a small solar cell, which I'll take out from a Simple calculator. The other house will have a hydro-generator, that is, a small motor, used in electric car toys, which will too generate electricity. Can anyone give me any more ideas, and review my current ideas? If you could find a piece of tile, or a clay pot, and it it on the "south wall" of the house. ad take an incandescent light to simulate the sun (incandescent for the heat) this will act as a heat storage wall. (one way to save on heating bills is to have clay/tile floors or walls, with the southern sun directly on it. some walls even can have water capsuls in them. and this takes the sun's heat and retains it for the night.

I need help in making a miniature special effect!? I need to make a scene in my movie where a helicopter crashes. I've got some red LED lights, a desert diorama with towers equipped with said LEDs. The idea being that some of the LED flash will hide the fact that the heli crash is fake; I plan to crash a huey heli...anyone got any suggestions? LED lights do consume way less energy, saving you money. Yes they usually cost a little bit more, but they also last a lot longer if you get a quality brand. Remote-controlled miniature LED lights? Does such a thing exist? I would need them to be very small, like a single LED that could fit in something about the size of a bottle cap, but slightly shallower. SMD led will fit in a bottle cap but not the remote part.... IE
