Pretty silly list. How are you planning to haul all this kit? A wheelbarrow? A solar powered golf cart?
Fact is you can't carry more than a third of your weight for any period of time. All the crap you list would be at least as heavy as you are and most would be pointless in an emergency.
Way too much duplication of tools. A folding pocket knife and saw are all you need. Maybe keep the multitool but no more. Don't need the icebox -- I doubt the 7-11's will have bags of ice during Armageddon.
Certainly don't need all the weapons (take the smallest gun if you insist. Don't you know that statistics support that you are 20 times more likely to be killed by a gun if you carry or own one than if you do not? Facts prove having a gun only attracts violence.) If you plan on using a weapon to hunt game, stick with a good small crossbow -- you can reuse the bolts instead of worrying about ammo. And a bow is silent.
The phone and charger would be useless quickly unless you carry a portable solar charger. Where are you planning to plug in during the Apocalypse?
Doubt any gas mask you could buy would be of much use in a sophisticated chemical or bio warfare attack. Scrap that.
Ditch the water tablets and get a hand pump water filter. A roll of tie wire will be more useful than nails. Ditch the Bible unless you need the pages for firestarter.
Minus 30 sleeping bag is WAY too warm for anything above zero. Carry a 10 or 15 degree bag . You can roll up in the tarp for extra warmth inside the tent.
Other silly stuff: taser gun, bear spray, binoculars, trekking pole (sticks are free and easy to find), hot and cold packs (what for?), MRE's (they taste like crap -- carry jars of peanut butter, Rye Crisp and dried fruit -- you can live indefinitely on that), garbage bag (unless you just want to use it to crawl inside to make it easier for people to dispose of your corpse. A compass and regional topo maps would be useful.
Forget the seeds -- what you have here will only get you through a couple of weeks at best. Considering the lack of reality in this list, my sense is that you don't have the skills or "survival" experience necessary to live long enough to plant anything.
The best prep for a disaster is a calm and reasonable frame of mind and a good bit of experience in camping and trekking with gear you are already familiar with. If you feel like you need to take a book along to teach you to survive, the odds are against you actually being able to do so.
Why is the USA copying Canada A Galloping Police State? Marjaleena Repo | June 19 2006
After five years of what can only be described as intense “terrorism envy” by our security establishment —with their repeated predictions of terrorist acts in Canada — the country has moved up a notch, to terrorism frenzy. The discovery of an alleged conspiracy by 17 Muslim men to attack facilities in Toronto and kidnap parliamentarians (as well as beheading the prime minister) — ostensibly to get Canada to withdraw from Afghanistan— came just in time before parliament debates the renewal of our post-2001 anti-terrorism legislation, and when support for Canada’s all out military involvement in Afghanistan is softening by the day.
The June 2 arrests were done with massive police involvement. Snipers on rooftops, in full glare of the notified-in-advance media, guaranteed 24-hour TV coverage and screaming headlines, topped off by a full court press conference by the CSIS and the RCMP. A full-fledged national crisis was born, fueled by rumours and fear. Our whole national security was at stake, and Islam, and to a lesser degree, multiculturalism, was to blame, for enabling such individuals to function underneath our very noses. A new term, “home-grown terrorists,” was slammed into our vocabulary overnight.
While the frightening picture of religion-driven extremists was bombarding our senses, the lawyers of the accused complained that they could not find out what the evidence against their clients was, could not even talk to them without armed police presence. Two weeks after the arrest, the accused and their lawyers are still in the dark about what led to the extreme charges. The accused are kept in solitary confinement, forced to sleep with lights on and woken every half-an-hour during the night.
A media ban has been imposed, preventing the press and the lawyers from exposing the exact nature of the information or discussing the court proceedings. The initial horrific rumours are left standing, fueling more fears of all things Muslim (now interchangeable with “extremist”). Some of the Muslim community were also pulled into this vortex of hysteria, trying to do the impossible: disassociating themselves from “bad” Muslims and pledging to do “house cleaning,” to rid their mosques and communities of such individuals. For this they have received many pats on the back (and head) from the amen-corner in the media and security establishment.
Two weeks after the spectacular arrests, Canadians still know next to nothing of the doings and utterances of the 17: they were on chat lines (watched by the police), they played paint ball and did target practice in the woods (watched by their neigbours), they wore camouflage and military style boots, they had ordered a large amount of ammonium nitrate, a potential component of bombs, some of it delivered to their door by a police agent. We don’t know how many were involved in any of the above. Five pairs of boots were displayed for the cameras, six flashlights, one walkie-talkie set, one voltmeter, eight D-cell batteries, a cell phone, a circuit board, a computer hard drive, one barbecue grill, a set of barbecue tongs, a wooden door with 21 bullet marks and a 9 mm hand gun. That should do it —clear proof that they were up to no good!
But wait a minute, is this scenario not deja vu from August 2003, when 24 Muslim men were taken down in an similar early-dawn police action, apprehended for planned terrorist acts such as bombing the CN tower and nuclear facilities in Ontario, their names and faces plastered on the media, far and wide? Much mutual congratulation among the intelligence community, the police and security forces ensued. Project Thread, as it was called, however, turned soon into Project Threadbare: nothing was found on the men, no evidence, no plans, no conspiracy, no tools to accomplish their dastardly deeds, and no membership in an “Al Quada sleeper cell,” as was initially claimed. They were cleared but not before being incarcerated, some for months. In the end, a couple of the men were found guilty of minor immigration infractions and deported. Others left the country, disgraced, their lives in tatters, only to find their “terrorist“ reputations following them to Pakistan, where some ended up being interrogated and jailed before being released. They have received neither an apology nor a penny of compensation from Canada.
Is it possible that the CSIS and the RCMP have learned their lessons, that they have worked harder to make the charges stick this time? Having watched the 17 men and boys for several years, with no terrorist acts having occurred, they appear to have helped the suspects along by entrapping them, including delivering an order of ammonia nitrate to one of the suspects (although with contents substituted). Perhaps we will find out that the purchaser was reluctant but the agent was ardent in his determination to make the terrorist charges hold, at last.
With the defence of the current accused already thwarted, we can expect a show trial and a kangaroo court to justify the terrorism hysteria that is so aggressively being cultivated, day in and out, by authorities and much of the media. With several other Muslims being held for years on dubious “security certificates” — challenged now in the Supreme Court of Canada — we will likely see more Muslim men end up in the no-man’s-land of Canadian justice, without trial and due process. A galloping police state is emerging, in a fashion, familiar to those who know their history, of 1930’s Germany.
It is time for Canadians, living blindfolded and silenced in a fool’s paradise, to remember Pastor Martin Niemoller’s famous warning to his fellow Germans, here freely paraphrased: “When they came for the Muslims/I remained silent/I was not a Muslim. //When they locked up the Aboriginals/defending their ancient lands/I remained silent/I was not an Aboriginal// When they came for the brown-skinned immigrants/ I did not speak up /I was not one of them// When they came for the critics, the dissidents, and the protesters/I did not speak out/I was not one of them// When they came for me/There was no one left to speak out.”
First, are you making a political statement, or are you asking a question?
Second of all Canadians, have always lived their lives, and fashioned the BNA act with "Peace", "ORDER", and "GOOD GOVERNMENT". By "Good Government" we mean responsible to the people government.
As a Canadian citizen, as long as you obey the laws, your rights as a Canadian will not be infringed upon. Break those laws and you lose your rights as a Canadian. As visitors to Canada, you are welcome here as long as you respect our culture and obey our laws. You break our laws, we'll put you in jail, or ship you back home. It's as simple as that.
We will not tolerate lawlessness or civil disobediance. We will not tolerate violent actions in our society, and we will take any steps necessary to curb this unhealthy activity. We have the war measures act to ensure "Good Government", and "ORDER". We will sacrifice our freedoms to ensure law and order prevails.
Understand this when in Canada. Chaos, and lawlessness will not be tolerated. We respect our laws, we respect our police because they maintain law and order, something we want in our lives.
Israel? Are these really God's 'Chosen'? Do 'God's Chosen' have certain rights others do not have? June 14, 1009
JERUSALEM — Israeli combat soldiers have acknowledged that they forced Palestinian civilians to serve as human shields, needlessly killed unarmed Gazans and improperly used white phosphorus shells to burn down buildings as part of Israel's three-week military offensive in the Gaza Strip last winter.
In filmed testimony and written statements released Wednesday, more than two dozen soldiers told an Israeli army veterans' group that military commanders led the fighters into what one described as a "moral Twilight Zone" where almost every Palestinian was seen as a threat.
Soldiers described incidents in which Israeli forces killed an unarmed Palestinian carrying a white cloth, an elderly woman carrying a sack, a Gazan riding a motorcycle, and an elderly man with a flashlight, said Breaking the Silence, a group formed by army reservists in 2004.
Any Palestinian spotted near Israeli troops was considered suspect. A man talking on a cell phone on the roof of his building was viewed as a legitimate target because he could've been telling militants where to find Israeli forces, the group quoted soldiers as saying.
"In urban warfare, everyone is your enemy," said one soldier. "No innocents."
The 110-pages of testimony — along with 16 video clips — of interviews with 26 unnamed Israeli soldiers offers the most comprehensive look inside a military campaign that's become the subject of an unfolding United Nations war crimes investigation.

Bogus?
I see
then I have the right to consider the "Promised land" as bogus
as well as the "chosen" as bogus.
You know as well as I do that the article is true. Not at all antisemitic when it is true. Accept it.
There are been numerous articles about what happened at that time. You see, all of us do not depend on Fox 5 or MSNBC or CNN. There are hundreds of other sources, some even from Israel itself.
So laugh all you want.
There are aways others who are smarter than you and who are more knowledgeable than you.
Apparently you fear the truth.

Their is nothing Chosen about modern Israel their isn't any proof that they are the decedents of the ones we read about in the Old Testament.
"modern Israelites"
-don't sacrifice animals
- don't use the name Yahweh
- don't read original Hebrew
It's grounds to say that modern Israel isn't the same people as ancient Hebrews.

Can I get your opinion of this? Israeli soldiers admit war crimes? Ok, so a few days ago I read this article, and it made my view of Israel worse. So was everything I saw on the news real? Well, what do you think of these witnesses? Here are a few passages from the article: Israeli soldiers admit war crimes "JERUSALEM — Israeli combat soldiers have acknowledged that they forced Palestinian civilians to serve as human shields, needlessly killed unarmed Gazans and improperly used white phosphorus shells to burn down buildings as part of Israel's three-week military offensive in the Gaza Strip last winter. "In urban warfare, everyone is your enemy," said one soldier. "No innocents." "Two soldiers from the Givati brigade who served in Zeitoun told the story of shooting an unarmed civilian without warning him. The elderly man was walking with a flashlight toward a building where Israeli forces were taking cover. The Israeli officer in the house repeatedly ignored requests from other soldiers to fire warning shots as the man approached, the soldiers said. Instead, when he got within 20 yards of the soldiers, the commander ordered snipers to kill the man. The soldiers later confirmed that the man was unarmed." "Breaking the Silence identified other specific instances in which Israeli forces carried out highly questionable practices. According to the soldiers, the Israeli military fired white phosphorus mortars and artillery shells to set suspicious buildings ablaze and destroyed scores of Palestinian homes for questionable reasons. The white phosphorus supplied by the U.S. is supposed to be used to illuminate targets or provide smoke cover for advancing troops. "Phosphorus was used as an igniter, simply making it all go up in flames," one soldier said." "A second soldier-....told Breaking the Silence that at least one officer fired unauthorized white phosphorus mortars because it was "cool."" ""In practical terms, this meant taking a house that is not implicated in any way, that its single sin is the fact that it is situated on top of a hill in the Gaza Strip ," said one soldier." "In the Ezbt Abd Rabbo neighborhood, Israeli combatants said they forced Palestinians to search homes for militants and enter buildings ahead of soldiers in direct violation of an Israeli Supreme Court ruling that bars fighters from using civilians as human shields." "One Palestinian, Castro Abed Rabbo, said Israeli soldiers ordered him to enter buildings to search for militants and booby traps before they sent in a specially trained dog with high-tech detection gear. Two other Palestinian men told McClatchy that Israeli soldiers used them as human shields by forcing them to kneel in a field during a firefight as they exchanged fire with Gaza fighters. "I was down on my knees and they fanned out in a 'V' behind me," Sami Rashid Mohammed, a Fatah-leaning former Palestinian Authority police officer, said in an unpublished interview in February. "It wasn't more than 10 or 15 minutes of shooting, but it was so scary." One of the Israeli soldiers interviewed described the offensive was necessary. "We did what we had to do," he said. "The actual doing was a bit thoughtless. We were allowed to do anything we wanted. Who's to tell us not to?"" ""He said something along the line of 'Don't let morality become an issue; that will come later,'" the soldier said. "He had this strange language: 'Leave the nightmares and horrors that will come up for later — now just shoot.'" "You felt like a child playing around with a magnifying glass, burning up ants," another Israeli soldier said. "A 20-year-old kid should not be doing such things to people. . . . the guys were running a 'Wild West' scene: draw, cock, kill."" This is the article: http://www.arabamericannews.com/news/index.php?mod=article&cat=Palestine&article=2354 Here, I copied and pasted parts of the whole article, please read it and tell me what you think? If this is how the IDF soldiers act, then by all means, the Palestinians have the right to resist this oppression. Or if you'd like a more reliable source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7952603.stm Arieh, oh trust me, your side will try to find a way to defend this action and call it acceptable, and will then blame it on the Pals. My opinion is this is a senseless rant from someone that knows nothing of soldiers or war. Watching on tv doesn't count.

I agree with Chris: too redundant and not focusing on the right items.
- no need for a rifle, shotgun, and handgun; if your need a gun to hunt, it just pick a rifle or shotgun, depending what you plan on hunting in the area you will be in
- no need for three knives/multitools; a single multitool is fine for 99% of needs, the handsaw will take care of the rest
- no need for a life jacket, just stay away from any large bodies of water
- no need for trip wire...you wont be in Vietnam
- no need for a cooler; nothing will be cold enough to keep cool in the first place, and a cooler wont keep things cool for more than a day at most
- map and compass should be essentials
- I would add snowshoes if you plan on being in the mountains
- Add high strength duct tape and replace the shoe glue & superglue with Seam Grip, as it will cover mulitple needs and is better at sealing waterproof items
- dont forget fuel
There really isn't any point in putting together a general survival kit, unless you plan on getting lost without warning in the mountains. You really need to shape your gear around each trip depending on location and season. Plus, this is going to weigh probably upwards of 100 lbs, so won't be reasonable to carry around as an emergency measure. The fact is, you really can't count on any survival situation as being long term. To survive in the mountains in an emergency, you should focus on getting found or getting out ASAP.
EDIT: Judging by a couple of the answers below, I see some of us live in a fantasy world of paranoia and delusion. Don't worry, I promise zombies and the evil government won't be taking over the Earth and running us into the mountains any time soon.
@Bear Crap: None of those recent disasters you listed required long term survival in the mountains. I'm sure having 100 lbs of mountain survival gear would have helped those people in Pearl Harbor and during 9/11. The only one that required survival was MAYBE Katrina, for those that were too dumb to leave in the first place. All you needed to survive that was stocked food, water, and a pump. Stop living in a fantasy land where doomsday is lurking around the bend and only those with stockpiled "survival" gear will live. If you are really concerned, you should just build a well-stocked bunker, which would be far more useful than a duffel bag of toys from the Army surplus store. I think you "survival" nuts just like to play pretend! Of course there is a 1 in a billion chance a meteorite could knock out most life on Earth, but if that happens, you will end up dying anyway, and your survival skills will be irrelevant on the drastically changed planet. Like I said, I think you guys just like to gather a bunch of little "survival" toys like big useless knives, paracord, whistles, and other junk and play pretend...in fact you probably hope society breaks down because it would be "cool" to have to "survive" LMAO!
What do you have in your kit that isn't directly related to photography, but you can't do without? For example, I have an Led Lenser Flashlight which pumps out 225 lumens. It's a military light which you might see under the barrel of a soldier's rifle or pistol. In low light I can use it to aid in auto-focus and it makes manual focusing in low light much easier for these 43 year old eyes. I also always carry a multi-tool of some sort. At the moment it's a swiss army knife. One day I'm actually going to use it for something. lol. @ andy w .... I don't use gaffer tape, but I love duct tape! I could build a space ship out of that stuff. @ Picture Taker .... it's funny but I never actually thought about the importance of good boots. I wear these old beat up Scarpa Trek boots that must be getting on to 15 years old. They no longer look pretty, but they're still going strong and keeping my feet dry. A Power Bar and some cash.
camping:is this enough gear? I like to go camping, hiking, etc. in the woods sometimes.I pack all of the gear I take in a single backpack plus a sleeping bag and whatever I can carry on me.I carry at least 2 folding knives and a fixed USMC Ka Bar utility knife with me,a Army canteen with cook cup,a stainless steel bottle,a large shemagh for many uses,2 waterproof match tubes with tinder also,a flint/magnesium firestarter,a military issued watch cap,2 small compasses,an extra shirt, wool socks,p-38 and p-51 can openers,2 small multi tools,a head light and small led flashlight,at least 200 ft of paracord in different colors, mess kit with homemade MRE inside, first aid stuff, bandages,Tylenol,Benadryl,Neosporin.a sewing/fishing kit with hooks,SURVIVAL Army field manual, ranger bands, camo face paint, signal mirror, safety orange poncho and cover,1 razor for shaving,toothbrush,pen,sunglasses,rope,bandana,2 garbage bags, duct tape,2 nails, dental floss,6 handwarmers, leather welder's gloves,American flag velcro patch on my bag,95% of my gear is in waterproof bags or is waterproof itself.the garbage bags would be to put my backpack in to keep it dry.All together it is pretty lighweight, and my backpack is comfortable to wear for long periods of time.I know our troops carry much more gear and it is much heavier than what I carry so I am unsure if I am carrying enough.Feel free to share what you take with you camping, and constructive critism is welcome.
@ J and Chris
most of my gear I could go without, but with the extra room in my backpack,I see no harm in putting in a few light weight creature comforts.I believe 2 knives is 1 knife because you can lose one in the woods easily. My first aid kit is very light weight, almost weighs nothing. The 2 nails can be used for shelter, fishing, etc.I don't take any canned food with me so if anything the can openers would be for fishing lure.I think I will take the p-51 out because it is bigger and takes up more room.If you have ever done any kind of work out doors like cutting a tree down,or something similar, you would know how much easier gloves make it.And keep your hands warm (as for the comment about the hand warmers,I am taking four out).My home made MRE is virtually weight less and takes up no extra room because it fits in my mess kit.It consists of 4 crackers, instant oatmeal, and a couple of salt packets to help dry out meat if I kill something.I guess I kind of got carried away with it but ev
also I forgot to mention,if I am in an open area or by a lake or somewhere similar the signal mirror could come in handy. The razor, that is something no man should go without in my mind,my favorite creature comfort.
As I just stated in another QnA we are not under any kind of threat of an invasion or zombie apocalypse so a Bug out list like what your all carrying is a lot of wasted space filling junk. You only need 1 knife and 1 multi-tool. 1 compass or GPS, 1 fire-starter, 1 mess kit or cook cup, 1 rope or para-cord. You talk of a "homemade mre" well if it's like most mre's it's too heavy of a food item switch to dehydrated foods. All the army stuff ie camo face paint arm bands and junk leave it behind you won't need that. The army survival manual could be handy to give you ideas for shelter setup and food sources but there are better wildlife and edible plant books out there. All those hand warmers are wasted space if you have fire and gloves why bother.
To many folks are suckered into these wild survival man shows and think they can do the same, and you can. But most of the junk you see on tv is just that junk. When folks really go out to the wild-lands to enjoy God's green earth they want a lot more of the creature comforts of home and for real outdoor adventurists who have been doing this for years with out all the hollywood makeup they don't buy into all that phony baloney. Here is a back-packing check list from a reputable supplier prepared by folks who really spend more time in the outdoors then any survival man character ever has,
