Where can I learn to fly a microlight in Europe? Ideally I'd like to learn to fly a "weight-shift" microlight somewhere warm but not too far away from the UK. South Africa and USA have been suggested but also Spain & Portugal. Does anyone have a club they could recommend from personal experience? Your advice is appreciated. Microlight? i am looking into getting a microlight licence Do you ned one to fly it or not? Can you just pick one up and buy one? How do i get started. The British Microlight Association, based in Deddington, Oxfordshire, have a superb web site that will explain everything for you.

Are you legally allowed to land a powered hang glider on a public beach in the UK? What about a microlight? Is there anywhere I can find out about the air laws in the UK (criminal and civil) so I can fly without causing problems. Are you required to have insurance? I understand you need a licence to fly a microlight but not a powered hang glider - is that right? not at all

is it illegal to fly a microlight in the UK without a ppl? assuming i knew how to fly one, could i use a microlight from a piece of farm land without a licence? In the UK you require a licence to fly microlights. The Licence is called the National Private Pilot's Licence (Microlights). NPPL (M).
The Licence is issued by the Civil Aviation Authority, CAA, to a candidate who has completed a course of training and has passed the required flight and ground examinations. The Licence is kept current by flying for at least five hour a year and having your log book endorsed by an examiner to confirm your flights. If you cannot fly this time in a year you can fly a flight test with an examiner to revalidate your Licence.
Even where the land is private the airspace above it is not

When flying a microlight, Do you have to land on a runway or can you land anywhere? Also do you have to follow flight paths or can you go anywhere you want. Also do certain flight paths have to be obeyed. Note this is england im talking about Sorry about the detail repeat In terms of the aircraft's ability to land anywhere, any reasonably smooth field is adequate; an actual runway is not required. The air regulations vary from country to country. In the U.S. (where the term is "ultralight", which has a legal definition), generally you can fly wherever you want, but you have to stay out of certain airspace (like the area around major airports and other things). There are no federal regulations on where you can land, but a few individual states or communities may have restrictions on landing fields.

Contrary to what Rick said, ultralights are NOT limited to 1200' or less; the UL altitude limit is 18,000; (the floor of Class A airspace). Also Light-Sport planes are no more limited to airports than ultralights are, though their [slightly] higher landing speeds mean they may need a larger field.

Is it possible to build a microlight on your own? Without any factory help, is such a crazy feat possible? Would have to be able to fly of course. Could anyone give me a link of some kind to a few designs? We'll I'm planning on building an arcraft with sticks, plastic bags and an old grasscutter engine and then flying it off a cliff and into a country of democracy! A microlight aircraft? It's possible, depending on how much training, experience, and access to equipment and material you have. The Experimental Aircraft Association has people that design and build lots of aircraft. Get a copy of the current issue of Kitplanes Magazine - there's a directory of the kits available on the market. The next 2 issues will have directories of plans for building your own aircraft, and engine options, too, I think.
But keep in mind that designing and building and flying your own airplane means that nobody but you is responsible if it crashes and injures or kills you. Part of what you buy when you purchase a kit or plans is the engineering expertise that went into creating a safe, flyable, functioning aircraft. I don't know about you, but I value my life enough to think that that expertise is worthwhile.

Microlight question - altitude 170 metres, QNH 1004 hPa, what is the QFE and how do you calculate it? My neighbour is studying for his exam and this is one of the questions on a past paper. Yes, I see my mistake, the height of the airfield is 170 metres The QFE is different from the presumed sea level pressure of 1004 hPa.
Expect a standard pressure difference of 100 hPa per 1000 meters.
(100 hPa: difference) = (1000m:170m).
(1 hPa/10 m)(170m) = difference.
17 hPa = difference.
The airport is above Mean Sea Level, so (at standard temperature for 170 m) the QFE will be 17 hPa less than 1004 hPa, or 987 hPa.

I need to build an ultrilight or microlight, where can I get plans/blueprints for free? I am trying to construct a micro/ultralight aircraft, and i need plans/blueprints for the plane. Can i convert from a microlight license to a small airplane license? if i already have a microlight license will i then have to fly less hours in a airplane to get my airplane license of won't this make a difference In the Us there is no microlight rating.
There are different requirements depending on what country you are in
