Have you ever noticed that many good brands, have at least one crappy product? It's like a ginger stepchild! For example: Bose's In-Ear TriPort headphones: They absolutely SUCK compared to every other product I've ever seen by them; MagLite Solitaire flashlight: While MagLite flashlights have been beautiful and durable engineering for years - and are only more so now that they have LED lights - the Solitare was utter crap. It always flickered, and a zillion companies made better keychain lights! Any other examples? Sorry for the repost guys. does the maglite Solitaire turn into a candle lke the mini maglites.?
Yes -- just unscrew the lens and stand the Solitaire on its base. We used two of these as candles during a recent power outage. They're great! You just need to make sure the little key-clip ring is folded out of the way and not underneath it.
Something else the Solitaires are good for: hang them from a lanyard around your neck and you have "headlights" if you have to walk through a dark area and need your hands for something else. You can either adjust them to a wide beam or even unscrew the lens for a sort of "hanging candle" effect.

Is it safe to keep a Swedish firesteel (and its striker) on a keychain? How likely is it to spark when struck by some metal item on the keychain? My keychain has a Leatherman Squirt multi-tool, a Maglite Solitaire flashlight, and, of course, keys (quite a few of them). It actually takes a bit of pressure to generate that spark. Keeping it on your key chain in your pocket is going to be pretty safe.
how do you remove a corporate logo from a maglite soliaire? my mate gave me a maglite solitaire with the logo of a company he used to work for. it is just printed on with white "ink". is there any way i can remove it without damaging the anodized finish? (but i the anodised finish is VERY tough, so im not worried about using harsher chemicals such as oil based or highly corrosive chemicals.) Try Goof Off or lacquer thinner. They work wonders. Both are available at hardware stores or home centers in the paint dept. Good luck.

Maglite Which one's The best? Has anyone got any experience using or owning any model of Mag-lite (the torch made in the USA). I'm looking to buy one & have noticed there is a wide range - Solitaire, Mini etc. Some have different bulbs like - LED's, Krypton etc I don't want a really large one, just one handy sized that gives off a good reliable light source. What sort of prices are reasonable & which gives off the best beam of light ? Thanks. It comes down to how you plan to use it. Choose the "AA" size for something light you can put into your pocket. Choose "D" sizes for heavy duty outdoor use. The more batteries, the brighter the light. LED bulbs are the choice for the longest battery life, but they are more expensive than the Krypton bulbs.
