What type of LEDs are able to be mounted to a PCB? I think SMT LEDs but like from the handle LEDS from BMW? If you look in the handle (on the exterior of most BMWs) they have these LEDs that light up either underneath the handles or the mirrors. They are very small but very bright. I believe they are called SMT leds (surface mount technology) but where can I find them to buy? I have Luxeon Rebels but they get too hot for what I am doing. Thanks!! Yes SMT is the type you want, but you need to know the size. You can measure the LED's in your handle to get the size. For example, common sizes are 0603, 0805, and 1206. 0603 means 6 hundredths of and inch by 3 hundreds on an inch. Soldering these can be tricky as they melt pretty fast.

As for purchasing, try http://www.digikey.com. Try searching for LED BLUE SMT 0603, or whatever size and color you want. Digikey has a $20 minimum order though.

your load is less than one amp your cord although small is rated for 1 amp..the LED runs on a 7-7.5vdc DC source ..your power puck is set up for 32vdc are you sure your doing the right one...just an observation..Sometimes I make mistakes go back and make sure the Forward voltage and the power supply output are a little closer a 9vdc will most likely work just as well..If the 32 vdc works it will sure be bright enough...:)....From the E

need diagram on a flashlight. it's a luxeon brand it's an element 3 watt torch? unless it's a strange flashlight, it's just a few batteries in series, in series with a switch and the bulb.

12 volt outdoor lighting question. Cost to have 10 18w par 36 lamps on a photo cell.? I would like to know what it would cost a month to run these lights. The other light i was looking at is a type 4 luxeon high output led unit. Thanks Drew This is 12 volt landscape lighting that runs off a transformer. Your light runs off of a battery. Your solar cell will charge a battery, if it is a small output cell it will take longer to charge. If the battery is a larger than needed battery it will be used longer between charges than a smaller battery would.
Ex. I have a 10watt lamp on a 12 volt cell with an output of 2 amps(in direct sunlight) with a battery capable of running 5 amps continuous for 10 hours.
1. This battery will run 5 amps for 10 hours, so my .8 amps will run a tad higher than 50 hours.
2. My cell is only putting out 2 amps and my lights are using .8 amps, so to charge this battery in much less time I would use a larger output cell...maybe a 5 amp output ( in this example).
3. My battery will run two days without a charge, this is a good size between charges.
If I increase my lights on the string I am increasing the load. I need to adjust the cell ( output ) and the battery (storage) to meet the needs of the load.
My cost is simple math from this point....

Help choosing the right resistor? Hello, I am powering two high power LUXEON rebel LEDs in parallel. The input voltage is 12vDC and the output needs to be diode forward current at 350mA and diode forward voltage at 3.15. I am looking at these 18 ohm 2W 5% resistors but I don't know if they will work. Any help?? Thanks!! No, no, no exo, first subtract the voltage drop of the LED from the suppy, leaving 8.85 to be dropped across the resistor. Divide that by the current, 0.35, to get the resistance of 25 ohms. So each LED should have a resistor of no lower than that, and the wattage of the resistor needs to be I^2 R = 3W. But use at least a 5W resistor, a resistor at it's full rated wattage is wicked hot. And make the resistor 27 ohms, the LEDs will be nearly as bright but last a bit longer. In fact, maybe try 33 ohms first, if you're happy with the brightness, stick with them, the LEDs will last much longer.
AND, if you're talking about AUTOMOTIVE 12V, running voltage is really more like 14V, so recalc the same way as above.

what's the voltage drop across a Luxeon V LED and a Luxeon III, respectively? That information is all in their data sheets. The voltage varies with current, but is not proportional to the current.

for instance, the white, green blue royal blue and cyan Luxeon III have a typical forward voltage drop of 3.7 volts at 700 mA current.
Red, red-orange and amber Luxeon III have a typical forward voltage drop of 2.95 volts at 1400 mA current.

how do you wire a luxeon 5 Watt or K2, what kind of lense and what is the best power source? Luxeon Powered Led Flashlight.? Single Led for superbright white light and saves battery. Latest technology this technology exist but yet people are still using the conventional bulp type. And even worse comsumed more energy than anything else. Burns our easily also but people preferred it. why?
