batteries and LED power? I have an LED (luxeon altilon) that has 1000mA and 7v as its power requirements. I want to be able to power it for at least 4 hours from rechargable batteries that are pretty portable. any ideas would be great. please give axact examples of the setup as I have no idea how any of this stuff works. links to the batteries and parts would be great. 12 volt outdoor lighting question. Cost to have 10 18w par 36 lamps on a photo cell.? I would like to know what it would cost a month to run these lights. The other light i was looking at is a type 4 luxeon high output led unit. Thanks Drew This is 12 volt landscape lighting that runs off a transformer. Your light runs off of a battery. Your solar cell will charge a battery, if it is a small output cell it will take longer to charge. If the battery is a larger than needed battery it will be used longer between charges than a smaller battery would.
Ex. I have a 10watt lamp on a 12 volt cell with an output of 2 amps(in direct sunlight) with a battery capable of running 5 amps continuous for 10 hours.
1. This battery will run 5 amps for 10 hours, so my .8 amps will run a tad higher than 50 hours.
2. My cell is only putting out 2 amps and my lights are using .8 amps, so to charge this battery in much less time I would use a larger output cell...maybe a 5 amp output ( in this example).
3. My battery will run two days without a charge, this is a good size between charges.
If I increase my lights on the string I am increasing the load. I need to adjust the cell ( output ) and the battery (storage) to meet the needs of the load.
My cost is simple math from this point....

A LED lighting question? Would a LED be damaged or deteriorated in any way (in mean of light output) if the amperage was increased but the voltage kept the same? For example, I was wondering if I could change the power source of a 3W Luxeon from 3 AAA's, to 3 AA's or even 3 D's without damaging the LED? No damage. The LED will draw the same current (amperage) regardless of the battery size as long as the batteries are fresh. Bigger batteries will just last longer, i.e. have more energy. Ohms law says Voltage = Current times Resistance. For LED the Resistance is not constant but varies over the voltage applied. Since the voltage is the same for 3AAA, 3AA, 3C, or 3D, then the resistence is the same at that voltage of 4.5 Volts. Thus it will draw the same current for any types of battery arrangement that has 4.5 Volts.

what's the voltage drop across a Luxeon V LED and a Luxeon III, respectively? That information is all in their data sheets. The voltage varies with current, but is not proportional to the current.

for instance, the white, green blue royal blue and cyan Luxeon III have a typical forward voltage drop of 3.7 volts at 700 mA current.
Red, red-orange and amber Luxeon III have a typical forward voltage drop of 2.95 volts at 1400 mA current.

LED Marine / Saltwater Aquarium Light? I was wondering whether its possible to do a custom made LED light since if u buy from the shop the real deal its around rm2500 for LED lighting 2ft. My aquarium measures 2x1x1ft Is it a must to use Luxeon types of LED ...which is 3W? Or can I put the 5mm LED at 0.2W with many instead to compensate for intensity? Any guide or tips on how i should make it ? E.g. numbers of LED, minimum LED rating.. Thanks! (In Malaysia) Its for corals which need optimum lighting. Not those really intense ones. For example.. anemone You can use LEDs, but there are some issues involved. For one thing, you will need an awfully lot of them. I doubt if the 0.2 W ones will be strong enough. You will also need to make sure the color temp. is good, and that the right frequencies of light are actually being produced. Its not that big of a deal for fish only, but it is for most corals and other inverts.
People have been playing around with LED lighting in the last few years, so its still fairly new. There are a few commercially available set-ups available, but they are HIDEOUSLY expensive, and I don't know what type of LED they use.

your load is less than one amp your cord although small is rated for 1 amp..the LED runs on a 7-7.5vdc DC source ..your power puck is set up for 32vdc are you sure your doing the right one...just an observation..Sometimes I make mistakes go back and make sure the Forward voltage and the power supply output are a little closer a 9vdc will most likely work just as well..If the 32 vdc works it will sure be bright enough...:)....From the E

You mean power supply.
4 x 3.42 is 13 volts. But that is probably typical Vf. What is max Vf, that is what you have to design for. Plus you need a resistor dropping at least 2 volts to allow for Vf variations.
But I have no idea what a BuckPuck is, so I can't advise you any further.
edit, sorry, saw link on buckpuck. apparently it is a constant current driver. But there are no specs on the LED. They don't even say if Vf is typical or max. As an engineer, I'd never buy a part with no specifications.
skip the part about the resistor as the BuckPuck provides CC drive.
so 15 volts at 400mA is enough for the supply.

Is a 9 LED flashlight bright? and wot about a 3 watt luxeon led torch I have a Dorcey single 1 watt White LED flashlight which is extremely bright IMO, so I imagine that a 3 watt would really be even more brighter. You would have to make a comparison of the lumens that an ordinary White LED and a Luxeon LED put out. See link below.

And even worse comsumed more energy than anything else. Burns our easily also but people preferred it. why? Spongy High power LED? How do i remove a High power LED from a torch? The LED is small, soft and spongy and i don't want to remove it in case the stuff inside it is harmful. There is electronics in the module that is used to drive the LED. Also part of the module is probably used as a heat sink for the LED.
