What kind of batteries should I use for an LED flashlight, heavy duty or alkaline? The LED flashlight uses 4 AA. Also, the box says if you're not gonna use the flashlight for extended periods of time, to keep the batteries out of the flashlight to prevent leakage and other bad stuff. >>>Just how long of non-usage would I want to keep the batteries out? >>>Would I have this same concern with alkaline batteries since they're supposed to be (more) leak proof? Alkaline will last longer than Heavy Duty batteries. Leaving the batteries in the flashlight without using it will drain the battery faster.
Depending how much charge the battery has determine when you should not leave the battery for an extended time.
If the battery is brand new and you plan using the flashlight within a month or so, it's fine to leave it in the flashlight, however the battery will drain quicker than if it was out.
If the battery is almost dead, then it's best to remove them as the battery leakage usually happen when the battery is getting emptied out.

If you use your flashlight often and for long period of time, I would also suggest to get rechargeable batteries.

Is there a special brand name led flashlight that I should buy? I asked if there was a way that I could see through the game cards that I got from fast-food places like McDonald's. I received several good answers telling me to use a "led" flashlight. I looked up the flashlight on the internet, and found them to be used mostly on key-chains, which I have several. They didn't work. I was wondering if there are special brand names, or types that I should be looking for and where can they be purchased. Thanks for any help you can give. White LED lights are made up of the three primary colors (Red - 650 nm, Green - 575 nm and Blue - 475 nm). The lights are combined to make white. LEDs emit light in an extremely narrow wavelength.
Surfaces that reflect light outside the 450-675 nm range would not reflect any light when using an LED. Also, any surfaces that would reflect light in the 525 nm range would also not be visible.
Incandescent light emits light in a very wide spectrum throughout the visible light spectrum. Visible light is in the 380 - 770 nm range. So a white LED would not reflect light between 380 nm - 425 nm and 675 nm - 770 nm along with a narrow band near 525 nm.

Does strobe effect reduce the lifespan of a led flashlight? I have a led flash light (a nuflare rebel 90) and i was wondering if doing a strobe effect (switch it on and off real quick) or using it short busts at a time will reduce the lifespan of the flashlight? Or does it have the same effect compared to when its constantly lit? if it does, its negligible. all you'll be doing is tiring out the fingers and slightly extending battery life.
regular light bulbs actually don't suffer from turning on/off rapidly frequently either, since nearly all lamps are designed to be used in the home with regular line frequency, the bulb filament is actually being turn on and off 120 times a second really, really quickly.
where ever you heard that turning on/off a lamp alot will reduce its working life time its an urban myth. its just not true.
actually, many quality LED flashlights (like a Surefire or Gerber) have a strobe function in their flashlights, the LED is guaranteed to last just as long as LEDs without the strobe feature. I have one such high end flashlight (aka "torch"), its an unregistered spin off from a Surefire tactical LED torch (saved me about $100- but still very expensive), the strobe effect actually extends battery life about 20% and doesn't reduce the LED working life whatsoever.

Who makes a professional LED flashlight the same size as a 6 C cell Maglight? It time to retire my maglight. I have a very powerful, but small LED flashlight. Or, another good choice is the Pelican 8060 (model used by LAPD)
Pelican is 12.76 inches long and runs at 190 lumens for around 6 hrs.
I have the Pelican 7060 (shorter version of the 8060) and love it. A few guys I work with recently bought the new 5.11. Either are top of the line flashlights.

what is the advantage of having a UV LED flashlight compared to a regular LED flashlight? I had a regular 51 white LED flashlight that i got off ebay. and it worked just fine, I'm going to buy another led flashlight i'll be using it for camping and around the house. does a UV LED flashlight create more light or can you see better? UV or ultraviolet is not visible to human eyes. Buying a UV flashlight won't be any use if you want to see something. UV flashlights are frequently used to make hidden marks glow so they become visible. There are marks like this in the new bills and on passports and things like that. How to replace an led flashlight bulb that is soldered to its switch "component" with a lightbulb with wires? I have a cheap dollar store "finger" flashlight.I took out the guts and it looks like this... It takes 3 very small watch like batteries (LR41 size). It has an led type bulb soldered to a small board that has a switch with batteries extending beyond that. My intention is to create a lamp for my dollhouse roombox (a dentist overhead light to be exact). I need to revamp this thing so I can switch it on and off beyond the walls of the box. Could it be possible to remove bulb and replace with one with wires attached so I could turn light source on and off from a distance??? Note: I know very little about either electronics or soldering. ok,so to start out you will need a soldering gun and maybe a toggle switch or an other sort of on and off switch.first heat up the solder gun and melt the old solder off the led type bulb and board to seperate them and solder on a - and + wire to each end and then solder on a battery source and the on off switch.

What is the advantage of krypton flash light bulbs Vs. regular halogen Vs. LED when buying a flashlight? I know that LED flashlights are pretty crappy. I heard that Krypton flashlights and Halogen flashlights are about the same and produce the same intensity and range. Is this true? Does anybody have first hand experience? I know that LED is great as far as battery life but does not have as much candlepower as Halogen or Krypton. Between Krypton and Halogen, Which has more candlepower? I assure you, if you get a good LED flashlight, it will be brighter than a similar model with a krypton/halogen bulb. I will never buy another flashlight that is not LED. Led is far superior, better life, (better tint usually), and they are bright with less artifacts.
LED flashlights with multiple small leds are garbage. A good LED flashlight will feature 1 normal high-powered CREE, or another brand.
I would recommend if you like AA/AAA that you look into Icon, Fenix. If you want C or D I suggest you look into... well maglite is the only major manufacturer to use D or C. If you want high quality CR123, I suggest you look into Surefire, Fenix, Inova, among many others. If you want small CR2, you do not have much choice, but Muysondt is good, but expensive.
Check out some lights on this site, they have all sorts of flashlights, with all different bulb types. They carry a lot of the major brands. I bought my Muyshondt Aeon from them, and they were very easy to deal with.
