How to I power a laser pointer with a car battery? I have a laser pointer which takes two double A batteries for power, and I want to power the laser pointer with my car battery. How do I step the voltage down, and keep from overpowering the laser? This could be done with a simple dropping resistor, since the car battery has lots of energy you can afford to waste.
However, consider just charging up several sets of AA batteries at home, or even from one of those chargers that plugs into a cigarette lighter. That would seem to be a much neater solution.

How to attach a laser pointer to the underneath of an air rifle? So far my best idea is a 3 way G clamp but Im worried that the laser pointer may slip, should i try using some sort of tape? Or has anyone else got any other sugestions? I used pipe clamps, when I attached a laser pointer to my paintball gun. Worked great

How do I get the laser diode out of my laser pointer? I've taken apart my laser pointer and now all thats left is part of the shell of the pointer and the laser diode that was jammed in it. I've tried pushing the diode out, but I'm afraid I'll break it. What can I do? Also, if I should keep trying to push it out, should I push on the 3-prong end or the lens thing end? most laser pointers have an LED in them. however, if you have a real one, what i would do is take a blunt object and push it through from the opening towards the back- something like a pen cap. the '3-prong' end are the leads, if you break them, its a real pain to resolder them back on.

How can I make laser light from a laser pointer less harmful? I'm doing a science project and need to use a laser pointer. The project is about making a toy for children aged 9 to 12. Since light from a laser pointer is harmful to the eyes, I want to put maybe a material to filter some harmful stuff or something from the laser light. If possible, please tell me where I can purchase it. Other ways to make laser light less harmful are welcome. I don't think the light from a cheap low power laser pointer can harm eyes. Check that the power level is less than 1 mW.
The US limit is 5 mW, but the UK limit is 1 mW, so I'd stick with less than 1 mW

I was using it today for the first time with my family and it shone it quite far away and the beam was very big and it make our eyes go funny. The futher away we shone it the bigger the beam got and it then changed from blue to purple the further away it got. It feels like i got eye straigh i can see fine touch wood it just feels like they do when i been in front of the pc monitor too long. Can viewing a laser that shines of roof tops and walls harm your eyes? Should i go get them checked out. After today i have lost interest in lasers and i just want to get rid of mine it set me back £100/$150 for my blue laser pointer. I shone it on a brick wall i would way it was a few hundred feet away and then on a roof of our building. I also shone it in our dining room. I just asumed the laser would be harmfull if you directly looked in to it and shone it on metal or other reflactive surfaces. From what i gather from laser safty guides. class 3b lasers are unsafe to look in to directly but should genraly be safe if you view if shone on surfaces. It was a blue/blueray laser that they sell on ebay. Your message is unclear about what you did with it. You should never look directly into a laser or into the reflection of a laser off a shiny object. If this is an unmodified laser pointer and you were just shining it on stuff you should be absolutely fine. If you briefly looked into it from a long distance you are probably fine. If you stared into it from a close range you are stupid and may have done a small amount of damage that a doctor can do nothing to fix until we actually start funding stem cell research.

Should i get the 15mw 35mw or 55mw as my first strong laser pointer? i have handled lasers before and i dont want one that cant melt plastic with the cap add on. i also wanted to know does just looking at the point you are pointing to hurt your eyes or is it just when you point it in someone's eyes. what is the diff. between green and red lasers? ya but is their a difference other than color? a orange laser is like $200 dollars more. and what if the surface is not reflective? Google "ANSI laser hazard class" for an explanation of the different hazard classes in terms of power levels. A 55 mW CW laser, for example, is a class III laser, which means it is powerful enough to do retinal damage in under the time it takes you to blink. (There is a technical term for this, "something aversion" I recall, the point is that if you shine it in your eye or someone else's eye, you can do a lot of damage.) I know this may piss you off, and I am not trying to be insulting, but although you may have handled lasers before, it doesn't sound like you know a lot about them. A 55 mW laser is not a toy, and if you are going to buy something like that, it is a good idea to read up on the safety issues.
A green laser is typically what is called a frequency doubled Nd:YAG. What that means is the laser's primary wavelength is in the near-infrared, and they run that through a nonlinear crystal to double the frequency (halving the wavelength) to give you something in the green. The canonical "green" Nd:YAG wavelength is 532 nm, but there are some variations on that as the newer solid state lasers don't use Nd:YAG primary oscillators, but some other variant where the Nd atoms are embedded in a different crystal than a YAG. An orange laser will be a frequency-doubled laser whose primary oscillator runs at a little longer wavelength (i.e., farther into the infrared) than an Nd:YAG.
Red lasers, in general, are laser-diodes and they are not frequency doubled. The primary output of the laser is in the red. That is why in general red pointers are cheaper than green or other colors, there is less optics inside them.

The criteria I remember is something about a chip on the board inside. That was a long while ago tho. Probably different now.

How far does the laser from a laser pointer go? If there were people on the moon for example, could they see my laser pointer if I somehow managed to aim it on the surface close to where they were standing? And light is just made up of photons, so could one actually count the # of photons in a beam of light? I mean theoretically, are photons quantifiable? People on the Moon would probably not be able to see your pointer. The beam from even the best lasers diverge somewhat so by the time light from a pointer reaches the distance of the Moon the intensity would be too low to be detected by eye. I'm sure there are some instruments that would be able to detect the light however.
I suppose you could count the # of photons in a beam of light. Some astronomical instruments detect only a very few photons from far away objects. Since the energy of a photon is h x f where h is Plank's constant and f is the frequency and since lasers are nearly monochromatic--one frequency--we could measure the intensity of the laser and divide by the energy of each photon and 'calculate' the # of photons.
