do krypton light bulbs save energy? ? are they a good value? last as long as the twisty looking ones? No, they use about the same energy as a regular light bulb. Regular light bulbs (incandescents) do not save energy, of course, and use about 5 times more than compact fluorescent bulbs.
Krypton bulbs are mostly used for specific purposes, such as photography, because they produce a very clean, white light.

How do I select Krypton flashlight bulbs? Does anyone know how the voltage ratings for Krypton flashlight bulbs work? They seem to suggest that for a 2 cell flashlight (i.e. two 1.5v AA batteries) one should use a 2.2v Krypton bulb. Is that right? If so, why is that correct? The rated voltage of a flashlight bulb is often less than the voltage of the batteries. The reason is that, when current is drawn from most types of batteries, such as alkaine and carbon-zinc, the internal resistance of the battery makes the output voltage drop. If you used a 3 volt bulb with 2 AA cells it would be quite dim since the higher voltage bulb (for the same rated power) has higher resistance and thus lower power at the reduced battery voltage. The best way to buy a bulb is based on the cell rating (2-AA, 3-C cell, etc.)
Be warned that some battery chemistries, notably the rechargeable types NiCad, NiMH and Lead-Acid do not have much of a voltage drop.
I learned all this because I built a headlight for my bicycle using a lead-acid 6 volt battery and bought Krypton bulbs designed for a 6 volt lantern battery. I kept burning out the bulbs until I found that they were rated at 4.8 volts because of the droop in lantern battery voltage. My lead-acid put out the full 6 volts and burned out the bulb after a short time. I swittched to a bulb rated for 6 volts and everything worked fine then.

Tungsten Lamps consist of a coiled tungsten filament mounted in a quartz glass envelope that has been filled with an inert gas plus a trace of halogen.
Tungsten-Halogen lamps must maintain an envelope temperature between 250 and 350 deg. C. Tungsten that has evaporated from the filament combines with the halogen gas. Convection currents within the bulb carry this gas to the quartz where it is cooled and then returned to the filament. Cooler temperatures will not allow the halogen cycle to take place, thus causing bulb blackening and shorter life.
Luminous efficiency is approximately 22 lumens per watt.

How long will a krypton light bulb last? How much will the life of a 4.8V krypton flashlight bulb be shortened if i power it with a 7.2 volt battery? You cannot tell. It will be shortened a lot!! Maybe it will last just a minute or two, maybe longer.
Even though the bulb has krypton in it, it still uses a filament, and the filament is the problem.
Is there a way you can introduce some resistance into the circuit?

Is a wire harness needed for luminics pure blue KRYPTON 9006 bulbs? I have a 2005 ford expedition and was going to buy a pair of 9006 luminics pure blue KRYPTON bulbs. I was looking on the luminics website and it said that the wiring harness is recommended but it is 20$ and i was just wondering if it is really necessary. If you are willing to spend the bucks for the KRYPTON bulbs, drop the extra $20 for the wiring harness.

What is the advantage of krypton flash light bulbs Vs. regular halogen Vs. LED when buying a flashlight? I know that LED flashlights are pretty crappy. I heard that Krypton flashlights and Halogen flashlights are about the same and produce the same intensity and range. Is this true? Does anybody have first hand experience? I know that LED is great as far as battery life but does not have as much candlepower as Halogen or Krypton. Between Krypton and Halogen, Which has more candlepower? I assure you, if you get a good LED flashlight, it will be brighter than a similar model with a krypton/halogen bulb. I will never buy another flashlight that is not LED. Led is far superior, better life, (better tint usually), and they are bright with less artifacts.
LED flashlights with multiple small leds are garbage. A good LED flashlight will feature 1 normal high-powered CREE, or another brand.
I would recommend if you like AA/AAA that you look into Icon, Fenix. If you want C or D I suggest you look into... well maglite is the only major manufacturer to use D or C. If you want high quality CR123, I suggest you look into Surefire, Fenix, Inova, among many others. If you want small CR2, you do not have much choice, but Muysondt is good, but expensive.
Check out some lights on this site, they have all sorts of flashlights, with all different bulb types. They carry a lot of the major brands. I bought my Muyshondt Aeon from them, and they were very easy to deal with.

why do safety certified flashlights require vacuum bulbs? i have a bright star 2217 permissible flashlight. it is designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres such as coal mines, grain silos, below deck on a boat. printed on the tube it states that you must only use a PR2 or PR6 bulb. i know that those are vacuum, flange based bulbs designed to run off the current of 2 D sized batteries. my question is what would make a krypton or xenon filled bulbs potentially dangerous? i 've always wondered that so could someone explain it to me. No such thing as a vacuum filed bulb. They are filled with nitrogen or argon or some other inert gas.
krypton or xenon bulbs get a lot hotter on the outside surface than does a normal incandescent bulb.

what does mA stand for on krypton lantern bulbs? I have a Brinkmann 6v lantern flotable and im looking to upgrade the bulb for more brightness help me. i curently have a 4.8v bulb. milliamp i think. 1/1000th of an amp?
i think the volts will need to match, but if you increase the wattage of the bulb it should be g2g.

What might be a disadvantage to the consumers of light bulbs containing rare elements argon,Krypton and xenon? One disadvantage would be cost: It is extremely expensive to produce these rare gases, especially krypton and xenon. Very few plants in the world can produce these elements (Kr and Xe), it takes an enormous amount of energy to capture and separate these gases from the air...So the producer of these gases sells them at a premium, due to supply and demand, the manufacturer of the light bulbs buys the gases at high prices and passes them on to the consumer. Of the three, argon is by far the cheapest, but even this is expensive when compared to nitrogen, oxygen, CO2, etc.

What is the difference in cycle light bulbs between Krypton, and Halogen? I need some replacement parts for our eurolight cycle lamps. There is a choice of krypton or halogen bulbs, what are the advantages of the two types? I have had these lamps for years, have never yet had to replace a bulb, but the have storage for spare bulbs. Krypton bulbs contain pure inert gas which allows the filaments to run at a higher temperature, emit a whiter light, and enables enhanced visibility for a given power consumption compared to Vacuum bulbs.
Halogen bulbs contain a technically advanced mixture of active and inert gases. The active component re-cycles tungsten from the glass back onto the filament, enabling the use of a hotter, brighter filament. They are the ultimate filament bulbs producing the best combination of white light, visibility, and safety. The glass is thicker than krypton and vacuum bulbs, and is hardened to produce a mechanically stronger bulb.
