Problem with infrared LED? I've been trying to make an IR Pen for Whiteboard and I followed the instructions at this video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czs2oJZY7hU ) to the letter, but my infrared LED isn't working. I've even tried just connecting the the LED directly to the power source but to no avail. Do I just have a bad bulb, or what? I have looked with a camera and other infrared light can be seen but not this one. bad LED??? don't know, but you can test it.
Using a digital camera, look at the IR emitter while the pen is operating.
CCD cameras are wide band sensitive. While IR is outside the bandwidth for humans, it is visible to CCD based cameras.
Just look at the LCD display and if the IR emitter is working, you can see it light up.

how to make an infrared pen with a tv remote IR led? wea i live theres no shops to buy ir leds so im forced to take apart a tv remote.im not sure how shud it be done as i have seen many diagrames on the net some with resistors and some just plain with switch. is there a step by step guide to makin the ir pen with an odinary remote ir led and can i get its website please.... this is for wiimote project! I found the following youtube video interesting. It makes a "white board" using wii remote and quick ir pen.

Is there any invisible ink that can be seen using a relatively inexpensive pair of special glasses? PLEASE READ: In the movie National Treasure, “special glasses” were used to read invisible ink that was used to draw a treasure map on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Now, I know there are invisible UV ink and LED pens that can be used for such applications. There are also the good old Decoder Pens or Yes $ Know Pens as in Invisible Ink Books for children, etc. There is also an IR (i.e. Infrared) type invisible ink that can be seen with a rather expensive 630 nm filter, or even a more expensive red laser and camcorder setups. But what I am looking for is any sort of Invisible Ink (for white paper applications) that can be seen with a passive pair of inexpensive glasses of a sort. By the way, it does NOT necessarily have to be a sophisticated ink/pigment/compound as long as it is totally invisible on white paper and can only be seen by a passively operating pair of glasses. Is there, for instance, such a thing as polarized ink and associated inexpensive pair of polarized glasses suitable for such an application? If you are basing this decoding entirely on light, then there is a possibility that occurred to me. Your mention of polarized ink gave me an idea.
From the basic idea, the color white is merely something that reflects all of the visible wavelengths back to you, not absorbing any colors at all. This makes it seem very bright, because all of that energy reaches your eyes.
If you can create a pure white ink (or same white as the paper) from pigments -- probably water-based so that they would not form texture -- then you may be able to create a white ink that is truly a mixture of the wavelengths. Then if you have a pair of glasses that filter one color (like a camera), you would see the remaining colors and the writing would be visible.
Now, I have never tried this and don't know that it would work, but given the energies of the color wavelengths, I think it would be easier to see if you filter the blue/violet end of the spectrum so that you see the red end. This should show with more contrast, making it easier to read.
I do not know that it would be possible to so precisely filter one particular color. If you create this white ink, it is possible that some mixing would mean your colors would not be perfect. If you don't see anything right away, try all 7 combinations of the filters for a camera lens -- red blue and yellow each alone, two of each mixed, and all three together. (And any others you can find.)
This is just a springboard idea, and I do not know that it would work. But if you do get it working let me know! I would be very interested in knowing if my hypothesis has a practical application!

I want a more powerful infrared led, what should i look for? I need to know what spec of an infrared led gives it more power. I need one for the wiimote whiteboard and i want to be able to point the pen from a longer distance
