Gene Autry Smiley Burnette Original Lobby Card WesternGene Autry Smiley Burnette Original Lobby Card WesternThis is an ORIGINAL 11" x 14" Lobby Card that has been cut. The top of the card with film title is cut off 2" gone. It is a country of Original USA Lobby, features a great western scene featuring legendary cowboy GENE AUTRY. It shows him coming into a scene guns blazing. Bottom has his name, and SMILEY BURNETTE.It is an Original Scene card from this western!MORE INFO ON SMILEY BURNETTE: Lester Alvin Burnett (March 18, 1911"February 16, 1967), better known as Smiley Burnette, was a popular American country music performer and a comedic actor in Western films, playing sidekick to Gene Autry and other B-movie cowboys, and on radio and TV. He was also a prolific singer-songwriter who could play as many as 100 musical instruments, some simultaneously. His career, beginning in 1934, spanned four decades.Lester A. Burnett (he added the final "e" later in life) was born in Summum, Illinois, on March 18, 1911. He began singing as a child and learned to play a wide variety of instruments by ear; yet never learned to read or write music. In his teens he worked in vaudeville, and starting in 1929, at the state's first commercial radio station, WDZ-AM in Tuscola, Illinois.Burnette came by his nickname while creating a character for a WDZ children's program. He was reading Mark Twains "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" at the time, which included a character named Jim Smiley. He named the radio character Mr. Smiley, but Burnette soon adopted the moniker as his own and dropped the salutation. His break came in December 1933 when he was hired by Gene Autry to play accordion on National Barn Dance on Chicago's WLS-AM, where Autry was the major star. As sound films became popular, Hollywood sought musical talent for Western films; and in 1934, producer Nat Levine cast the duo in their film debut (unbilled) as part of a bluegrass band in Mascot Pictures' In Old Santa Fe, starring Ken Maynard. Burnette sang and played accordion and the film included two of his compositions. He had other small parts until a secondary but more prominent role in the 1935 serial, The Adventures of Rex and Rinty. That same year, Levine gave Autry his first starring role in the 12-part serial The Phantom Empire, with Burnette playing a comic relief role, "Oscar." Mascot was soon absorbed by Republic Pictures Corp., and Burnette teamed up with Autry for the studio as his lovable comedic sidekick Frog Millhouse with his trademark floppy black hat. Their association produced 62 feature-length musical Westerns. Frog was known for sometimes singing in a deep, frog-like croaking voice.By 1940, he ranked second only to Autry in a Boxoffice magazine popularity poll of Western stars, the lone sidekick among the top ten; and when Autry left for World War II service, Burnette provided a sidekick to Eddie Dew, Sunset Carson and Bob Livingston; and appeared in nine other films with Roy Rogers. He had a fan club and was especially popular among younger fans. Burnette's movie horse, white with a black-ringed left eye, also became famous; first as Black-eyed Nellie, then Ring-eyed Nellie and finally just Ring Eye.After leaving Republic in June 1944, he became the sidekick to Charles Starrett at Columbia Pictures in the long-running Durango Kid serial. Starrett starred in the series from 1945 until 1952, and the pairing resulted in 56 films. When the series ended, Burnette rejoined Autry for Autry's final six films, all released by Columbia Pictures in 1953.Burnette wrote more than 400 songs and sang a significant number of them on screen. His Western classic, "Ridin Down the Canyon (to Watch the Sun Go Down)," was later recorded by Willie Nelson, Riders in the Sky and Johnnie Lee Wills. Other compositions included "On the Strings of My Lonesome Guitar" (Jimmy Wakely's theme song in the 1940s), "Fetch Me Down My Trusty .45," "Ridin' All Day," "It's Indian Summer," as well as "The Wind Sings a Cowboy Song," "The Old Covered Wagon" and "Western Lullaby." He also composed musical scores for such films as The Painted Stallion and Waterfront Lady. His songs were recorded by a diverse range of singers, including Bing Crosby, Ferlin Husky and Leon Russell. His performance of "Steamboat Bill" appeared on Billboard's country chart in 1939.Burnette devised and built some of his unusual musical instruments in his home workshop. His "Jassass-a-phone," for example, which he played in the film, The Singing Cowboy, resembled an organ with pipes, levers and pull mechanisms. In the 1940s, he invented and patented an early home audio-visual system called "Cinevision Talkies." Each package contained a 78 rpm record with four of his songs and fifteen 35mm slides. The slides were to be projected in order and advanced each time a short tone played on the record during the songs. An inside cover of the record album was white, so those with no projector and screen could simply shine a flashlight through the sides and view them on the cover. He also devised more than a dozen clever uses for a common wire clothes hanger after demonstrating several examples during a TV show guest appearance. When the cowboy movie genre waned, Burnette retired; but made guest appearances on many country music radio and TV shows including Louisiana Hayride, the Grand Ole Opry and Ranch Party. He spent time in Springfield, Missouri, from the late 1940s into the 1950s, producing a nationally-syndicated 15-minute radio program, The Smiley Burnette Show, through RadiOzark Enterprises.Burnette (far right) and Petticoat Junction cast He also made regular appearances on ABC-TV's Ozark Jubilee from Springfield; and in early 1957, filmed a pilot for a proposed ABC-TV series to originate from Springfield called Pig 'N Poke, a quiz show (which were popular at the time) with a country theme; although ABC did not buy the show.As the 1960s began, Burnette continued to make personal appearances at drive-ins, fairs, hospitals, town squares and rodeos. Among other venues, he once appeared with Dewey Brown and the Oklahoma Playboys at a Friday night dance at Jump's Roller Rink in Fairfax, Oklahoma. In the mid-1960s, he portrayed railway engineer Charley Pratt on the CBS-TV programs Petticoat Junction (106 episodes) and Green Acres (seven episodes).Burnette enjoyed cooking, and opened a restaurant chain in the 1950s called The Checkered Shirt, the first A-frame drive-ins. The first location was in Orlando, Florida; and two locations still exist in Redding and Escondido, California, but are no longer owned by the Burnette family.Just after completing the fourth season of Petticoat Junction, Burnette became ill. On February 16, 1967, at age 55, he died in Encino, California, from leukemia, and was interred in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, California.Burnette donated his original hat and shirt to the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in 1962. In 1971, he was inducted posthumously into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. For his contributions to the motion picture industry, Burnette has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6125 Hollywood Boulevard, dedicated in 1986. In 1998, he was inducted into the Western Music Association.Burnette is mentioned in the Statler Brothers' 1973 country music hit, "Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott?" (later the title of a 1994 Scott biography), which reached number 22 on the country chart.MORE INFO ON GENE AUTRY: After high school Gene Autry worked as a laborer for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad in Oklahoma. Next he was a telegrapher. In 1928 he began singing on a local radio station, and three years later he had his own show and was making his first recordings. Three years after that he made his film debut in Ken Maynard's In Old Santa Fe (1934) and starred in a 13-part serial the following year for Mascot Pictures, The Phantom Empire (1935). The next year he signed a contract with Republic Pictures and began making westerns. Autry--for better or worse--pretty much ushered in the era of the "singing cowboy" westerns of the 1930s and 1940s (in spite of the presence in his oaters of automobiles, radios and airplanes). These films often grossed ten times their average $50000 production costs. During World War II he enlisted in the US Army and was assigned as a flight officer from 1942-46 with the Air Transport Command. After his military service he returned to making movies, this time with Columbia Pictures, and finally with his own company, Flying A Productions, which, during the 1950s, produced his TV series "The Gene Autry Show" (1950), "The Adventures of Champion" (1955), and "Annie Oakley" (1954). He wrote over 200 songs. A savvy businessman, he retired from acting in the early 1960s and became a multi-millionaire from his investments in hotels, real estate, radio stations and the California Angels professional baseball team.Winning buyder agrees in advance to pay an additional Mail postage (Foreign orders will require additional postage) and to remit full payment within 10 days after notification from the seller. Husky flashlight.? I recently came across a husky flashlight that has a rubberized exterior i guess in case it is dropped. The interesting thing is this flashlight has 3 led in it. It has a red light, yellow light and a ultra white light. These lights rotate in order with the on/off light. Can someone please tell me the purpose of having a flashlight that not only has a white light but a blue and a red light as well? im think just incase if people r color blind.

B&A: Care to critique my prologue? *kind of long*? well, and part of chapter one. I don't really like it and don't think its good, so I want to know what i can do better. Also, I feel like I'm telling instead of showing, so what would you like to know more about in detail? Thanks, and enjoy :} Prologue “Father!” a childish voice screamed as a flash of orange and black fur ran through a doorway. Through the dimly lit room, three figures could be seen huddled around a wooden desk. They looked up just as a tiger pounced on the desk, sending it crashing and splitting into pieces. Silence hung in the air as the tiger pulled a bloody splinter out of its fur. “Ouch,” she said, wincing. She looked up at the three faces staring down at hers and frowned. “Rayna,” the oldest of the men said, his golden eyes scanning the young tiger. “I’ve started my shifting, Father.” The man ran his hands through his long, wavy brown hair which had fallen out of the ponytail it usually is tied in. “I can see that Rayna, but you have interrupted a very important meeting.” Rayna’s grey eyes glanced at the two other men, and she smiled sheepishly. “I’ll, just go. Sorry to bother you father,” she said as she quickly pulled herself out of the rubble. “Goodbye,” she said, exiting the room. Watching her go, her father chuckled as she randomly shifted into a stork. “Nexus, you must keep a closer eye on her,” a man with cropped, green hair said. Nexus smiled, “I know, but she’s my daughter, I have to be there for moments like these.” The three men chuckled. “Now, let’s clean up this mess and get back to business, the humans have been very stubborn lately. Chapter One Sirens blasted as the police cars raced up the road. “Celliar, hurry! They’re gaining!” Rayna’s burgundy bangs hung in her eyes, blurring her vision, but she knew where she was going. “We’re almost there, don’t slow down!” she yelled, grabbing the hand of the blonde girl behind her. They turned a corner and ran towards an old, fallen down building. The formerly bright yellow paint was now a dirty puke colour, its windows all fallen out. Rayna jumped through a window hole and hit the hard cold ground. Celliar came right after her and landed on top. The two quickly pushed themselves against the wall underneath the sane as the sirens came closer. They heard a slam from a door and voices, occasionally a flashlight would shine above their heads and hit the wall. “I’m not going in there, mate,” a husky voice said. Rayna tried to calm her breathing while Celliar was trying to stop the circulation in her friend’s arm. “That place has been unsafe for years, they’d be stupid to go in there anyways,” a female voice joined in. The flashlight passed over the girls heads again then faded. The two stayed still until the doors had closed and the sirens had been turned off. “I hate Watchers,” Rayna huffed, leaning her head back against the stone wall. “Well, then maybe you should stop shifting in the Mortal Realm where you can be caught,” Celliar teased. Rayna glared at her for a brief moment before a smile took over her face. “Now, where’s the fun in that?” The girls both chuckled before Celliar hushed them both. “Our laughs will make this place cave,” she warned. Rayna stood up and walked to the end of the room. “Please, they just make it look that way. Obviously, since the portal to the Shifting Lands is in here, they wouldn’t want humans lurking around. They make it look like this to scare them away. Now, come.” Celliar stood up, wiped the dust off her blue shirt, and followed Rayna who had started down a dark hallway. She lead them to the back of the building where a bedroom lay. It was small, the queen-size bed practically filled the whole room, but there was a little bit of space that lead to a closet. The closet was new. “This place is freaky, why did you even bring me out here?” Celliar whined. Rayna crossed over to the tall, cherry wood closets and opened the doors. They were welcomed with an orchestra of squeaks. “Trust me, if anyone should be scared, its me. I hate the dark, remember? And not only is it night outside, there’s not a single light in this entire place.” There was no response from Celliar, so Rayna pushed the doors completely open. A grey, metal box was built into the back of the wall. It looked like an ordinary electric box when Rayna opened it, but inside was a gust of wind. The wind came flying out of the box and filled the room. The crooked portraits on the wall started shaking, and the bed shifted towards the girls, pushing them into the closet. “Close the door!” Rayna commanded, raising her voice to be heard. @Red, the reason its not in first is because its a series, and Rayna dies, and therefor it can't be in her eyes since she's dead, I guess. But thanks :} oh, and in that case, I'll probably re-write this Don't hate me for this, but I feel like it would be better told in first person. But it's your story, you prolly picked third person for a reason.
You are right, there is a bit of telling, specifically in the dialogue. This is why I thought first person would be better, you could mention the watchers and let us gather the clues of what's going on through Rayna's eyes. But nixing that, you could do basically the same thing here. "Sirens blasted as the police cars raced down the road; the watchers closing in."
One thing you should try: write the story as if this world were obvious. As if we already knew what watchers were, and why that building is dilapidated. Write it as if the audience don't need any explanations, and then come back and ask us if we understand what's going on.
One of the most memorable quotes I've heard from some guy who wrote a book was: "You need to assume the readers aren't stupid." They they understand everything that's going on. Try that, and see if it helps with the dialogue telling.
As for the rest, you're off better than I am. But if you aren't happy with your beginning, change it. Trust me. It will haunt you if you don't.
Good luck :)

Is my dog mad that I stepped on his foot? I was taking my dog outside to the kennel for bed time and I had a head flashlight on, but he was closer than I thought so I accidentally stepped on his foot and he yapped for like 3 seconds straight. Now he's acting scared of me. Usually I leave the kennel door open while I set up his food and water, and tonight while i was getting his stuff, he ran out of the kennel and stopped and just looked at me. Then when I got outside of the kennel to get him to come over to me, he ran! He has never done that before! IS he mad / sad at me because he thinks I hurt him intentionally? What do I do? He's only 9 months old and a siberian husky.

What breed of dog should I get? First let me say this, I will NOT buy an animal from a petstore or puppy mill. I know the truth. I will adopt or buy from a reputable breeder. I already have a sable rough collie, she's three months old (Got her from Jupiter's collies). She's already potty trained (She will only do it inside if I don't take her in time), knows her basic commands (sit, down, speak, come, go get it, wait) is learning to heel. Spin and roll over are commands that she will do with some help and motivation. She is crate trained. I don't have a job (Working on getting my documentation XD), so I'm always home. My husband works and goes to college. I am active in my church, and I'm actually going to have my Collie, Angie be a therapy puppy. Yes I'm going to take her to classes with a personal trainer. However, although I love Angie, I want another dog. I'm not extremely active, so high working breeds like a husky or a border collie is a no no for me. At home I am a couch potato, yes I do tend to my duties and clean the house, which does take a few hours of my day, but I do prefer to sit and relax. I have no problem throwing balls around lol. My puppy is still learning how to drop the ball or give it to me LOL. I got a collie because they are not active indoors, not the best couch potatoes, but one that is not that active. Specially when I give her a fifteen minute walk (Requirements for puppies are different). Then retreat home, and she will fall asleep LOL. I do practice tricks at home to tire her mind. I'm looking for toys ideas to exercise her mind too, so suggestion is appreciated. I was thinking to get another collie. My husband loves german shepherds, I know the white variety is a bit more mellow. My future trainer (I have met her already) has a great Dane, I did research on my own about the breed, she told me that she couldn't live without a Dane, and said they only need 25 minutes exercises. They are the largest lap dog ever XD. Anyways I do have the time, and I am thinking of getting this new puppy in about a year from now, I need to do much research. Any breed that you would like for me to look into? Keep in mind that I love fur!! And I don't mind my animal's fur on me at all. Size to me also doesn't matter. My husband does want a dog to be a guard dog, and a bit intimidating, so people will think twice before breaking in. (I'm a weakling >.<), I do think a Dane would be great, they are intimidating but lacks aggression XD!!! I don't want a Spaniels or bull dogs. A brittney (Sp?) would probably hold the flashlight for the robber XD!!! No chiwahauhau >.> please Breeds that I am interested are: 1. Another Collie 2. Great Dane 3. Golden Retriever 4. Papillon 5. Pit Bull (I would love to get the dog breed I grew up with, but I could get sued >.< for no reason >.>) 6. Rotweiler (Come on, these love giants are great) 7. Doberman (Beautiful dog, but I don't know if I have what it takes) 8. Saluki Replying to Terri, the 13th answer: There is no such thing as a bad dog, it's the irresponsability of the trainer/owner that do no research. To get my puppy, I did 3 years of research, including on the breed and the place where to get my future dog from. The breeder that I got my dog from, I had contact with her six months before I even bought a dog from her. I also, personally with my husband drove to her place to check if the dogs were okay. I grew up with a pit that never bit me, I grow up with a rottie that never growled, I grew up with two german shepherd that tolerated nine other dogs. (I lived in Brazil, and my mother often left me with different people for a few months at a time) And instead of the two german shepherd that bit me, or constantly growled at me, it looked like a Toy Manchester Terrier Dog >.> due to being overproctectice over my grandma Honestly, if I were you, I would wait before getting another dog. Sure, your Collie is easy now, but she's still a baby. The hyper puppy thing usually happens between 4-9 months. I know you want another dog, and I understand, but please consider waiting a few more months and getting some training under your belt before adding to the household.
Also, I would agree with the first post... Adopt a mixed breed *adult* dog from your local shelter. Mixed breed dogs have fewer health problems overall, and you'll be saving a life. Or if you're dead-set on a purebred dog, consider a rescue dog. I'm sure there's a collie rescue in your area... As well as a Golden rescue, a GD rescue, Rottie rescue, Dobie rescue... you name it! Then you get a dog that has been in foster care with a family, is already housebroken, probably already has some manners training, and you'll know more about it's personality.

i have a question...? my siberian husky has many problems and i want to know how i can correct them. 1. she chews pens, pencils, DVDs/CDs (if theyre laying around) flashlights, and almost anything that she can reach on coffee tables that isnt paper. she even ate my sunglasses! and she always seems to chew on things when im not home, so i cant catch her in the act and whenever i get home, she has this guilty look on her face like "i know i did something wrong" and then i disipline her with hitting her on the nose and saying a very firm "NO." and almost every day i come home and find something chewed up. i try and make sure theres nothing on the floor but idk how she manages to get somethings but she does. my mom says shes doing this out of boredom, and i believe her.. but everytime i get her a new toy, she chews it up and i end up cleaning it up. when my sister had her (then she gave her to me after two years) she even chewed up WINDOWSILLS! i need advice please. shes about 4 years old. *my mistake.. that was her only MAJOR problem.* i cant use a crate because i think thats just cruel. like evilgrl said... no what i put on things she chews on (i even put tabasco sauce on it) and she still chews it. Crate the dog while away and train it the house rules. The dog suffers from anxiety of being left alone. Crate it.

what kind of animal is this? i believe its a dog.? ok well for the past few months ive been hearing this screaming noise out in the woods. at first it hought it was just a puppy or osmething like a coyote puppy. and other people said it was an owl but it sounds nothing like an owl. so tonight the scream was twice as loud. it almost sounded like a human screaming. so i went outside and all my neighbors were out there with flashlights looking for it. my neighbors said they thought it might be bob cats but they flushed it out of the woods towards me and it came out just a little and it almost looked like a small dog. it looked almost like a husky but smaller. it was bigger then a coyote though. it had a curly tale too. and pointy ears . and it was pretty stocky. but the thing was it never did bark it just screamed. and im pretty sure thats what i saw was that dog looking thing but im not positive i might be mistaken. well i live in the midsouth around memphis so if anyone has any clue please help me. Don't know what kind of animal you saw but I would call the local animal control and ask them if they have had any other reports describing this animal. They may know exactly what this animal is.
Hope this helps..
