What are handgun laws like in Ontario? I'm just curious if it is legal to carry a hand gun in Canada. What is owning shotguns and handguns like? Are the laws pretty strict? There is no permit to carry a handgun in Canada. You can own a handgun but need to have a PAL (position acquistion license). In order to get that, you need to take two different gun safety courses, then pay the money to apply.
In order to have a handgun in your house it has to be registered. You need to have a trigger lock, secured in a container (gun safe, locked closet, etc) away from the ammunitions. There are also strict conditions to transport to and from the range.
Long guns require only one course to own and handle. They also have to be stored safely. I believe they are getting rid of the long gun registry. The laws around them are a little more relaxed then handguns.
So yes, the laws are pretty strict for handguns, less for long guns (and should get more relaxed).

Handgun laws? Does anyone think they will eventually do away with the 2nd ammendment because of rising gun deaths across the U.S.? I am a new collector and i would hate to see this happen. I guess our capital is trying to make it illegal for the public to own a handgun and experts say it may spill out across the U.S. I do not believe that removing the right to own guns will change the death rate due to guns -- and that is what NRA has to present. I don't own a gun, don't want to, wouldn't know what to do with it if I had it.
I think you are safe to collect, but make sure your collection is stored in a safe.

Sec. 922. Unlawful acts
(a) It shall be unlawful--

(3) for any person, other than a licensed importer, licensed
manufacturer, licensed dealer, or licensed collector to transport into or receive in the State where he resides (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, the State where it maintains a place of business) any firearm purchased or otherwise obtained by such person outside that State, except that this paragraph (A) shall not preclude any person who lawfully acquires a firearm by bequest or intestate succession in a State other than his State of residence from transporting the firearm into or receiving it in that State, if it is lawful for such person to purchase or possess such firearm in that State, (B) shall not apply to the transportation or receipt of a firearm obtained in conformity with subsection (b)(3) of this section, and (C) shall not apply to the transportation of any firearm acquired in any State prior to the effective date of this chapter;

deliver--
(2) any firearm to any person in any State where the purchase or possession by such person of such firearm would be in violation of any State law or any published ordinance applicable at the place of sale, delivery or other disposition, unless the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe that the purchase or possession would not be in violation of such State law or such published ordinance;
(3) any firearm to any person who the licensee knows or has reasonable cause to believe does not reside in (or if the person is a corporation or other business entity, does not maintain a place of business in) the State in which the licensee's place of business is located, except that this paragraph (A) shall not apply to the sale or delivery of any rifle or shotgun to a resident of a State other than a State in which the licensee's place of business is located if the transferee meets in person with the transferor to accomplish the transfer, and the sale, delivery, and receipt fully comply with the legal conditions of sale in both such States (and any licensed manufacturer, importer or dealer shall be presumed, for purposes of this subparagraph, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, to have had actual knowledge of the State laws and published ordinances of both States),

What are the concealed handgun laws in Kentucky and Tennessee? I'm going to be stationed in Fort Campbell so I'm wondering what the concealed handgun laws were for active duty miliary in either kentucky or tennessee. Kentucky is a "shall issue" state. A carry and conceal weapon (CCW) permit will be issued to anyone who qualifies but will not serve as a National Instant Criminal System (NICS) check. The issuing authority is the Kentucky State Police. The following steps will show how to obtain a CCW license in Kentucky.
Step1Receive a carry and conceal weapon permit from another state.
Step2Be more than 21 years old and a United States citizen. Note that these requirements do not apply if you already have an out-of-state CCW permit.
Step3Live in Kentucky for six months or be a member of the United States Armed Forces on active duty if you are applying for a Kentucky CCW permit.
Step4Complete an application form at your local sheriff's office, a citizenship affidavit and provide photo identification. You will also need to pass a criminal and mental background check.
Step5Pay the application fee, part of which goes to the sheriff and part goes to the state police. You are exempt from the application fee if you are a retired police officer.
Step6Renew your permit every five years by submitting the renewal notice, a renewal affidavit stating you are still qualified to hold a permit and a photo ID to your local sheriff's office. A renewal fee will be charged and an additional late fee will be due if your permit has expired in the last six months. You must reapply if your permit has been expired for more than six months.~

Step5Receive your permit or be denied in 90 days. Renew the permit every four years by paying the renewal fee. You must keep your permit on your person at all times when carrying a concealed weapon and present the permit upon demand by any law enforcement officer.
Step6Refrain from carrying a concealed weapon in bars, courtrooms, public schools or any building with a posted sign banning firearms. ~

In The USA you just buy the gun(of course there are restrictions like how many rounds and only semi autos) and register it and you become a LEGAL gun owner. handgun laws? what do you have to have to own a handgun and do you have to have anything to own a 22 pistol also what all is needed to own a suppressor aka silencer for a handgun or a 22 pistol? Depends on what state your in. State laws vary from great gun states like Alaska and Idaho to unconstitional nazi states like Massachussetts and New Jersey. In Alaska you can buy a handgun in a convienence store and after the NICS check clears, stick it in your jacket and walk out. In New Jersey, you have to run around and get permission from local authorities then fill out paperwork, then wait like a month. Very few states allow you to carry silencers, some states will allow you to own them, but not carry them. Here is a website with a list of gun laws for every state.

Any handgun laws & licensing in New York in the 1950’s? I am doing a history project and need info on any handgun laws or licensing required in the Long Island area of New York in the early 1950’s. I am unable to substantiate that there were any restrictions or licensing required what-so-ever. But, I would like verification. The only dates I’m conserved with are the 1950’s. Please let me know the source of your information. Thanks for any help! The mainstay of NY gun restriction and control is the Sullivan act [see link]. It allowed gun permits on a 'discretionary' basis.

Non-residents:
A non-resident citizen may possess a rifle or shotgun in New York, as long as it is unloaded while being transported. No person may carry, possess or transport a handgun in or through the state unless he has a valid New York license. New York does not issue licenses to non-residents nor does it recognize licenses issued by other states. (A provision of federal law provides a defense to state or local laws which would prohibit the passage of persons with firearms in interstate travel. If a person is traveling from any place where he may lawfully possess and transport a firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and transport such firearm and the firearm is unloaded and in the trunk. In vehicles without a trunk, the unloaded firearm shall be in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. Necessary stops, e.g., gasoline and rest, seem permissible.) A member or coach of an accredited college or university target pistol team may transport a handgun into or through New York to participate in a collegiate, Olympic or target pistol shooting competition provided that the handgun is unloaded and carried in a locked carrying case and the ammunition is carried in a separate locked container. Non-resident target shooters may enter or pass through New York State with handguns for the purposes of any NRA approved competition if the competitor has in his possession a copy of the match program, proof of entry and a pistol license from his state of residence.
