Whats a reliable surefire flashlight under $100? I just need a bright and super reliable flashlight. Preferably a LED but i dont mind a halogen bulb as long as its bright and very reliable under $100 Fenix LD 10. I've bought three.
One for me and two as gifts.
Max lumens is 120 for 1.5 hours, minimum is 9 lumens for 34 hours. Also has a 47, and 90 lumen setting, a 120 lumen strobe, and a 90 lumen S.O.S.
One AA battery, digitally regulated beam so the light output stays even over the duration of the battery life.
Awesome light for $50.

LED, Xenon, HID, Halogen Flashlight bulb COMPARISON? What's the different between LED, Xenon, HID, and Halogen in Lumens, efficiency, power consumption.. I want to build a Flashlight with this sort of criteria : - At least 4 hours burn time. - Extremely bright ( at least more than 400 lumens) Please give me a long details about this, Thank you for the informations given.. Its hard to compare the three since different bulbs and "number" of bulbs differ in their output. LED bulbs -- single -- has the lowest output that's why you usually see 25 of them at a time on a flashlight.
Standard small halogens bulbs produce around 350-400 lumens.
Xenon and HID are the same thing, Xenon is the gas inside of the HID bulb and has the most lumens. If you are looking at 400 lumens you want to stay away from HID. HID produces around 3000 lumens.
First Reference is the output of a HID bulbs, the 2nd reference is only for 55W Halogens but you can see the difference in lumens and candles.

Xenon Flashlight vs. Halogen Flashlight? I'm currently comparing work flashlights. I need to light up large areas and see long distances. I narrowed it down to a streamlight and now need some more info that I can't find. The UltraStinger has a Xenon bulb with 75,000 candlepower, which is exatcly what I am looking for, but I read that the bulb only lasts 30 hours. I know that the halogen bulbs last much longer, but the highest CP I can find is 40,000 for the halogen. Does anyone know if the Xenon bulbs last longer than I read? Another thing to consider is that the xenon emits a true white light even though the bulb looks blue. This will give you a clearer image when you are useing the light to see with over the halogen.

what does a light meter look for exactly, fluorescent related? I have recently acquired a simple light meter designed for gardening. I don't understand why it reads the way it does though under different lighting conditions. LEDs and fluorescent lights don't seem to register on it unless it is right next to the bulb while laser pointer sends the meter off the scale as does a low powered halogen flashlight. The only readings that vary across a wider range are from standard incandescent bulbs, those seem to "loose" less power with distance. Can anyone explain why fluorescent lights don't register on the meter even when the visible light is 10x that of the regular bulb? I think the meter measures in Foot Candles. It's one that you find at home and garden stores for under 10 bucks usually hanging near the flower pots and pretty eye hooks for hanging flower baskets. It has a gauge that says light on one side and dark on the other. The numbers are from 0 to 2000 but aren't spaced evenly. I don't know if any of that helps or not, but that's the best description I can give, I get what answer 1 is saying about light per square inch. However LEDs focus the light in a spot and it doesn't register that even with the light focused on the receptor from 2 feet away, yet an incandescent bulb in an overhead fixture reads fine despite light dispersion. Something doesn't seem to add up. To answer 2 First, I'm growing a Golden Pothos, Nothing embarrassing or illegal, or even light needy. Secondly, I get the light dispersion but my overhead flourescent light is still putting out MUCH more light that the dinky incandescent 20 watt that I have in a closet. Neither of them have reflectors. All things being equal on the light dispersion factor why does the incandescent bulb register more with less light? I'm guessing it has something to do with the spectrum, maybe my meter is looking for infrared or red light that the fl. bulbs don't produce as much of, but that doesn't make much sense either. We have quite a variety here! Lets start with the light meter. They are designed to read lumens, which is the measurement of light! They are nothing more than a solar cell that develops a voltage when light is applied, and it is connected to a voltmeter which is calibrated to read lumens. When you say it is designed for gardening, my first thought is that it is set up to read high levels of light (sunlight), this could be why you are getting very low readings using artificial lighting. That being said, the potential variables we are dealing with here are things like, Flourescent- is it a 4' tube, 8' tube, the small ones like a 2' or 6" tubes? Just as there is a large variety of sizes, there is also a large variety of color outputs and intensities such as High Output (HO), Very High Output (VHO) and Super High Output (SHO) Warm White , Cool White, they even measurte them in degrees Kelvin!4100K, 3200K, etc. For sake of arguement, I am going to assume you are using a 4' 2-lamp Shop Lite. Although this will put out more light (lumens) than lets say a 100-Watt Incandescent lamp, you are reading higher levels from the 100-Watt lamp beecause it is coming from a more concentrated source vs. the span of a 4'-Shop lamp! Also, the type of reflector you have on the fixture will change the readings. Lets say a drop light, this is directional due to the shade or reflector it has. A 4'-Shop Lite with nothing to direct the light at your meter sends the light in all directions vs the Drop light that has focused the light in one direction. I hope this has somewhat helped you???
PS: If you are growing plants indoors that maybe you don't want others to know about? Use an HID (High Intensity Dishcharge) Fixture specifically a Metal-Halide unit! It reproduces every spectrum of sun light except one band, that is why it is more white than regular sun light. Also, it puts out about 100-times more light, lasts 20 times longer than regular lights and also is 20 times cheaper to run!!!! GOOD GROWIN!!!

What type of light bulb/natural source of light gives out more light? Fluorescent, sunlight, incandescent, light bulb in a flashlight, halogen, or LEDs? If I was closer, my solar cell would probably melt. xD sunlight.
i mean, it has to travel all the way here, and it's still this bright.

Is it safe for a 12V Halogen bulb? I'm looking to modify my flashlight to use a halogen bulb. How many volts should I apply if the bulb was rated at12V 20W? Should it be 15 volts or just 12 volts? Would 9.6 volts be efficient? I meant to say - Would 9.6 volts be 'sufficient', not 'efficient'. P = I x E
I = P / E 20W / 12V = 1.7 A
Be sure your batteries can deliver that much current for a reasonable amount of time.
Also, light output of an incandescent bulb is quite dependent on the voltage across the bulb. 9.6V is not good if it is the starting point for further voltage decrease as the battery is exhausted.
Have you considered a LED light?

Need help converting halogen lamps to LED? i have a few halogen desk lamps that i would like to convert to LED lights. I would like to use the same casing/sockets/wires as i have right now, and just replace the halogen bulb (because it feels like i'm sitting next to a space heater when i'm working near it). I have seen things at Target that convert halogen flashlights to LED with a small adapter. Is there something similar for desk lamps? thanks There are good Chinese torches available for $2 using 9-11leds. What is the advantage of krypton flash light bulbs Vs. regular halogen Vs. LED when buying a flashlight? I know that LED flashlights are pretty crappy. I heard that Krypton flashlights and Halogen flashlights are about the same and produce the same intensity and range. Is this true? Does anybody have first hand experience? I know that LED is great as far as battery life but does not have as much candlepower as Halogen or Krypton. Between Krypton and Halogen, Which has more candlepower? I assure you, if you get a good LED flashlight, it will be brighter than a similar model with a krypton/halogen bulb. I will never buy another flashlight that is not LED. Led is far superior, better life, (better tint usually), and they are bright with less artifacts.
LED flashlights with multiple small leds are garbage. A good LED flashlight will feature 1 normal high-powered CREE, or another brand.
I would recommend if you like AA/AAA that you look into Icon, Fenix. If you want C or D I suggest you look into... well maglite is the only major manufacturer to use D or C. If you want high quality CR123, I suggest you look into Surefire, Fenix, Inova, among many others. If you want small CR2, you do not have much choice, but Muysondt is good, but expensive.
Check out some lights on this site, they have all sorts of flashlights, with all different bulb types. They carry a lot of the major brands. I bought my Muyshondt Aeon from them, and they were very easy to deal with.

I need a 6 volt halogen flashlight bulb. Can you help find one? I need a halogen flashligh bulb that is an actual 5.9 or 6 volt bulb at the very least. What I want is a "halogen" for 5 or, better yet 6 cell flashlights not the 5.2 volt ones for 4 cell 6v lanters. Some one plese find me a link. p.s. Need a part. Bi-pin halogen connector? or something? I have a small (like a flashlight size bulb) that is a Bi-pin. What I need is the connector to plug it into, with a couple of wires coming out of it that go to a power supply. What is the actual name for the part I need?
