How are the different colored lenses on military flashlights used? I've seen blue,red,green,amber and clear lenses on the flashlights but I don't know why you would use the other ones some of them are used for signaling specific messages to your team but we rarely ever do that anymore. For the most part you will only ever use 3 of those lenses. I use the red one for map reading at night time. The white one deminished light. The blue one for tracking.
Why do LED flashlights need a solid state chip board to operate? In regular flashlights it is just a contact from the bulb to the bateries. what dose the solid state do to the light to make the bulb brighter? They don't "need it" need it. But it makes battery life much better than a power wasting passive current regulation scheme with resistors. And that you "need" need because LEDs operate on constant current, not constant voltage like the battery.

There are actually two versions of the Stinger and Polystinger. The original versions use bulbs, and the newer versions use LEDs. There are four variations: Stinger LED, Stinger DS LED, PolyStinger LED, Polystinger DS LED. The DS stands for Dual-Switch. This means that there is both a switch on top of the flashlight and on the tail cap. The Stinger LED and PolyStinger LED just have a switch on the top of the light, not one of the tail cap. All of the Stinger series lights, whether they are LED or bulbs, use the same charger holders and cords, so you can reuse them between lights. These Stinger lights also use the same rechargeable battery stick. As far as the technical difference, here's some more detail:
Polystinger: 7.4" long, 8.7 oz, 125 lumens

In the spirit of those human powered flashlights, how much energy could an exercise bike produce? I was thinking about those hand crank flashlights and our current energy crisis and it made me wonder if it would be possible to create a decent amount of electricity through exercise. Could I recharge my computer or cell phone just by working out on my exercise bike? How long would it take to fully charge a typical computer battery? My husband's great uncle rigged up his bicycle in his livingroom to run the tv while he rode the bike years ago. It worked as long as he kept pedaling at a reasonable pace. I don't know how long it would take to charge a battery, but I know it can be done. We always thought it was pretty cool!
