Why is a large flashlight almost always about twice as bright as a small flashlight? It is bigger, and uses larger batteries that hold more power, so the designers can afford to use a more powerful light bulb (or LED or whatever). A small flashlight that is just as bright as a bigger one is possible, but you'd change the batteries all the time.

Am I allowed to bring a small metal flashlight onto an airplane? Speaking from experience, please... Will they confiscate it from me at the X-ray machine? yes you can bring small flashlight on a plane. make sure it works as you may be asked to turn it on to prove its a real flashlight.

BTW All these lights have multi-output levels and are regulated, meaning the output stays constant until the batteries are nearly depleted.

Can refrigerating small flashlight and hearing aid batteries extend their life? someone told me , when I buy new flashlight batteries to place them into the Refrigerator and they would stay charged until I sued them, even a couple of years. Is this a myth or truth?? When they are cold they dont seem to last as long when you are using them. If you use any electronics in cold weather, ie below zero you will notice a drop in the the battery life.
The key is to keep them cool, not really cold. So if you live where your home does nto get about 70 degrees or so that is fine, but dont store int eh garage if it hits 90+.
Also you want to keep them dry. If they get moist, they will start to corrode, and that will damage what ever you put them in. Also it will take away the charge as well. So if you do want to keep them in the fridge (I have some in mine with my film) do what I do. Use those things you find in the vitamins and such, that help to keep it dry in it, and add them to the bag with your batteries. I also keep a dry papertowel in there as well. (the ones in the fridge are my spares, as the boys know to not touch my film bag, so any batteries in there are safe from them). They ones I keep in the house in a battery holder, is fair game for all...
Also remember to let the batteries come to room temp before you go to use, them and make sure no wetness is on them when you go to put them in. If there is, dry it very well.
All my camera batteries are kept at room temp, in a drawer with my other camera goodies that are not in one of the bags. In a camera, you never want to put a cold battery in it, unless the entire camera is cold, because of the risk of condinsation forming on the battery and getting into the rest of the camera and damaging it.

I suggest you go with a 3-AA LED Maglite. It is small, bright, metal, water resistant and nearly indestructable. The batteries are cheap and easy to replace. Good luck!

When I have a small item that I do not feel comfortable doing a regular disposal, I take it to the fire station and ask them. They always took it & handled the disposal. I did that with old leaky flares that was to set up around your car when have car trouble. Our city also has a free 'hazardous waste' collection once a year. You can call your local city hall & check with them, also.
