If you are not really a Junior firefighter, it's none of your concern.

is it true(in california) that if you are a volunteer firefighter you can add the emergency lights to your car? The nearest volunteer firefighter station is about 20/25 minutes away. Somebody told me that if I am a volunteer that I can legally add emergency lights to my car so that if I get a call I can go there? Is there any truth to this or anything anywhere near close? Yes, but it's not likely to happen- emergency lighting on POVs is rare in CA. Unlike most other states CA is very strict about it and very few people actually get the required permit. This is something that you will have to discuss with your chain of command- they will have they final say.

Do I have to be a certified firefighter to run lights/sirens on my pov? I'm in Ohio, I'm not planning to be a certified firefighter, just equipment "bitch" and running the pumps on the engines. If I joined the volunteer fire department in the next town over, would it be illegal for me to respond to the fire house with lights and/or sirens on my car? Or does it not matter if I am certified or not? Some states allow the use of a blue "courtesy" light when responding to emergency calls, which could be to the scene or to the firehouse to respond on a piece of apparatus. Usually only chiefs and some states Capts. and Lts. can run sirens in their povs. Check with your dept. or state police.

It depends on the laws in your area and department policies. Where I am the state law says visual signal "shall" be accompanied by audible as well as in a siren. Also it says the Chief will designate which personal units can do this. Fist check with your fire chief, then consult your state and local laws.

Wiring red firefighter lights to a single switch? I have a 4 outlet power supply with a LED dashlight and 2 LED's in the back windshield. The dashlight has a cigar plug in and the two LED's in the back need to be hardwired. I want to wire them to a single rocker switch mounted on the console. How to go about doing this. Best answer gets 10 points. Thanks No offense but this is an extremely large tasks, especially one that would be to detailed to put on yahoo answers. Your vehicle year, type ect... are all going to be factors. My best advice would be to make contact with your local electrical auto mechanic whether it be a regular Jo mechanic or one that specializes in electrical repair like alternators and such.
They will be able to rig something up relatively inexpensive and have the tools and equipment on hand to make sure the job is done right, and most importantly leaves your vehicle looking stock when its finished.

Firefighter Lights and Sirens? Hello, I work for a volunteer fire department in Ohio and I am planning on buying some lights and sirens for my truck. I have a ford f150..I would like to have them concealed like in the grille or something like that. Also I was looking at wig wags. The problem is i do not know what all i need to order, or what i should order, and are they easy to install by yourself? Please help me out thanks natedogg717117@yahoo.com If you are going to be responding to any kind of emergency you are going to want your lights to be out front big bright and bold. You also will want the loudest, most random siren you can find. Because from experience I can say when you put your lights and siren on, you become invisible.
Wig wags are always a good choice as high beams are going to be noticed long before any other emergency lights are. If you have a brush guard on your truck mounting the siren speaker there will allow for much better distribution of sound as well as additional places to put lights with ease.
A light bar is a good choice but can be tricky to wire up. I would recommend a dash light of some kind, maybe a whellen slim lighter or flat lighter, both LED. The main concern is power consumption because strobes take a very large amount of Amps compared to LEDs.
Galls.com has a good selection but once you find what you like search for the name else where online and you will usually get a better deal.

Long answer, check your local laws for specifics regarding emergency lighting in their POV.
An example of this, for us in Washington, firefighter POVs can only display green flashing lights.
This of course, simply confuses other drivers :) Hope your state is different!

Red lights are the legal color for you to use. Make sure you are allowed by your department's policy, and follow the policy when you are using the lights.
I'm sure this will be no surprise to you that a lot of law enforcement aren't really thrilled when we see someone in their personal car with a little red Kojak light burning through intersections like they own them. Whatever you do, go slow and be cautious if you are doing this. People WILL NOT get out of your way and you are taking your life (and other people's) in your hands when you use the light.
Also, you need to check the ORC for the specifics but your light needs to be visible for so many feet AND you need an audible siren for so many feet. You also need to make sure you are responding to an actual reported emergency (usually what constitutes that is spelled out in your department's policy). You are taking on a HUGE liability when you turn that light on and pass cars.
I am not trying to give you a hard time here, there is just so much civil (and even criminal) liability involved here. If you haven't done a lot of emergency driving (I am guessing by your question here that you haven't) then there is a tendency to drive like a bat out of Hell. I have trained a lot of new police officers and it is hard to get that out of them. I drove a well marked police cruiser for years and people never wanted to get out of my way. Now I drive an unmarked police car that has a lot of grill lights, corner strobes, and windshield strobes. People don't get out of my way for anything. The emergency lights merely ask for right of way. Expect everyone to pull out in front of you and to not get out of your way.
