12V socket on motorcycle running off a seperate battery? ok so i want to install a 12V socket on my motorcycle but i dont want to wire it to my battery becuase i dont want to mess around with the bike electricals. so what i was thinking was to buy the socket and wire it to a battery( not the motorcycles battery) and just place it in the sattlebags somewhere. now this is where i run into a problem, what kind of battery would i use? like in theory shouldnt a 12v energizer battery work? I think you're trying to make things to complicated. If you were to add a second battery, you need to think about how you are going to recharge it. As I see it you have two options. Either place the second battery on a trickle charger in between rides, or wire it into the bikes charging system. If you go for the first option, then you will have to buy a charger, plus there is the risk of the battery terminals shorting against anything else that happens to be rattling about in the saddlebag, unless you intend to use the saddlebag solely for carrying the battery. If you go for the second option, you have to consider if you bikes alternator can handle charging two batterys at the same time, as well as running all the rest of the electrics on your bike, and if you are going to wire in another battery, you might as well just wire in the socket in the first place. In my opinion, neither of these options are worth the hassle. It's easy enough to wire the socket straight on to your battery, and shouldn't effect the rest of your bike electrics.
