I need a good flashlight for emergency? I've heard there are flashlights that when you shake them they lit, and they don't need batteries. where should I buy them? I also have one of those shaking flashlights. I shake it for 30 seconds and it lights up for just a few minutes. And the light is not as bright as a regular flashlight.
For emergencies, I have a crank flashlight/radio. I have used this when the power was out. You can find them on ebay for less than $25 with free shipping. Go to ebay.com and search for "emergency flashlights". Be carefull, some stores sell this same item for over $40.
I find it a little easier to crank for power instead of shaking.
Or search through the same ebay listings for crank flashlights without the radio that sell for about $16, and that includes shipping.
Whatever you end up buying, make sure you also get at least one extra bulb.

How many flashlights do you own? Do you keep them near by just in case of an emergency? Do they actually work? I always seem to drop mine and break it, the batteries will pop out and the metal spring will fly out. Is it a good idea to keep the batteries in it at all times or to have the batteries near it and load it when its needed. I must have a dozen flashlights. In the house, in my car, the shed. I keep the batteries in the flashlight unless I'm storing it and don't expect to use it. Never keep batteries in something in storage. They could leak and damage the device. Most of my flashlights are Maglights. You can drop them any number of times and they stay together and keep working. Especially if you have one of the new LED bulb replacements in it. Many times when you drop a flashlight and it stops working you have broken the filament in the bulb. With an LED bulb this won't happen.

do mines keep emergency stashes of water, food, flashlights, etc? stored in strategic locations, deep in mines, in work areas. in case of trapped miners. i always see rescue efforts trying to get water, etc to trapped miners. it wouldnt cost much to keep a a few gallon jugs of water and some cans of food down there. do they do this? No, the mine owners are too afraid it will cut into their profit margins! They should drill shafts down to the same level that the miners are going to dig into ahead of them. And they should not permit the miners to progress until these predrilled holes are completed. They should require every miner to have a bio monitor and radio that will continuously send bio info and allow the miners to communicate to the surface regardless how deep they currently are at! Why aren't the mine owners providing these important pieces of equipment for each miner? Why don't the mine owners pay for predrilling ahead of the miners to ensure their safety?

How prepared are you to take care for yourself and your family in case of a state of emergency? Do you at least 14 days worth of provisions, blankets, towels, first aid kits, batteries, flashlights, candles, natural gas detectors, enough clean water for your whole family, plus water purification tablets, a all purpose weather radio, toiletries, does your family have a safe place to go incase your family is apart when the state of emergency is declaired, do you think your ready for anything? Actually i'm Canadian, but i feel that everyone should be ready for the unexpected, like when we had the summer of hell up here in Canada, when the wildfires raged out of control and we had to get help from our friends in America, when they loaned us some of there water bombers. I bought this solar powered flashlights for emergencies? but when I need to use it in the dark it wont work. Did I get ripped off? you need to make sure its charged. leave it out in the sun for a day then test it...if it still doesnt work, return it :)
