What are the differences between dynamos, magnetos and altenators? I imagine you are thinking about motor vehicles. A dynamo has fixed 'field windings' to produce the magnetic field and a rotating armature in which the current is generated. The generated current is kept at the correct polarity by using a commutator, with carbon brushes pressing on it to pick up the current. However, the use of a commutator and its brushes tends to limit the amount of current that can be produced.
An alternator uses the rotating armature to produce the magnetic field in static armature windings. This allows much larger currents to be generated, but they are AC, so must be rectified before going to the battery. This is easy to do with modern solid-state diodes. With an alternator, the control electronics are often part of the alternator unit, whereas with a DC dynamo, they are usually separate. In practical terms, this makes the alternator capable of producing much higher power and is more reliable than a dynamo. Note that both a dynamo and alternator produce DC at the output terminals (in vehicle use).
A magneto is used to produce high-tension (high voltage) current for the ignition system, and is usually used on motorbikes, lawnmowers, etc, that don't have a battery. It has a permanent magnet to produce the magnetic field, rather than a field winding, hence its name.

If I wire multiple 10w 12v dynamos together, will the voltage stack up? Im trying to get 30 watts of power, and if i wire 3 10w dynamos together, will the voltage stack up to 36 volts? You've got a misconception of wattage and voltage. If you wire them in parallel, you will have a total of 12v at 30 watts

How competitive is MLS U-18 soccer, in specific Houston Dynamos? Hi im living in Dubai, im currently 17 years old, been playing soccer forever now. Im moving to Houston in a couple weeks, and im just curios how competitive is soccer over there? Ive won regional championships with my team of course, as a center forward. Soccer out here is extremely competitive. The US Soccer Development Academy (the league Houston Dynamo U18) plays in is the BEST youth league in the United States. If you play for an MLS team's academy (like Houston Dynamo), its free (no cost to play).
The league is very competitive. The training facilities are top notch. And most players who play in the Development Academy go on to play in college, or sign pro contracts with MLS teams, or teams in Europe or Mexico.
You'll be in good hands (if you can make the team).

How does core permeability affects the general operation of the dynamos? Higher core permeability could allow the designer to make the machine with less iron and therefore lighter, smaller and perhaps cheaper. He coulsd also choose to use the higher permeability to achieve a lower excitation current, reducing losses and improving efficiency. Other things being equal he'd probably opt for a mix of these two approaches.

What are some effects in operation of dynamos if air gaps are made smaller? If by dynamos you mean dc generators (which would be correct in modern usage) then a smaller airgap will (other things being held constant) allow a smaller field current and therefore lower field losses and improved efficiency.

How can I add the Houston Dynamos to my watched teams list? The Houston Dynamos are not listed under the Western Division. Instead San Jose is listed on yahoo's selections. But MLSoccer doesn't list them as a team. Houston's listed.

Do you all think Houston Dynamos can get rid of soccer and introduce real football like in rest of the world? Lets face the facts Houston Dynamos are the besr right now.... First off houston won the mls cup in their first season....that IS something. And there is not a match anybody can say that the dynamos have not shown great skill and potential I mean the way they move and play is amazing. Even mexico got scared when we played in the semi finals agaisnt pachuca. pachuca had to buy the ref and give pacc. 3 penalties in order to win plus a free ticket stadium so all mexicans could pressure dynamos. let me tell you something I AM a mexican and I know my people and they were scared everytime dynamos had the ball. I don't care if cuathemoc blanco comes to chicago fire and i don't care if old beckham comes dynamos wiil give it their all and walk out champs again, because for so many years have I seen MLS and no team has gotten my attention like the dyamos... so what do you guys think? Short answer: Yes, a dynamo will work with any metal wire, but not as well as with copper.
Long answer: There are several reasons we use copper wire.
1 - Copper is very conductive.
Copper has a restistance of 1.72×10^−8 Ohms/m. Aluminum 2.82×10^−8 Ohms/m. So copper conducts better, which means it will produce more power for each watt of energy put into the dynamo.
2 - Copper is very cheap.
Copper is simply to refine, aluminum is very difficult and energy expensive to manufacture. Theoretically, silver is more conductive, but it's also a LOT more expensive.
3 - Easy to work with.
Copper is also a very soft metal, meaning it's very simple to make into a wire and wind. It's easy to make very thin wire from copper, so you can put more loops on the spool, meaning more efficiency.
