When 2012 rolls around do you think there will be chaos in the streets, how can we survive this? What sort of items should i stock up on in my retreat, canned & freeze dried foods for sure, guns & ammo, batteries, solar blankets, first aid kits, water purification tablets, dynamo powered radio & flash lights. What else will be needed to survive 2012? Unimaginable chaos will erupt sooner that 2012, and no it is not the 'end'. How to survive, get guns and food, and don't leave your house unless you have to. Stay away from large cities.

Can I convert my dynamo bicycle lights to use LEDs & capacitors? I'd like to take the glass bulbs out & replace them with LEDs & a capacitor, so it they operate a bit like a wind-up torch. The capacitor in my torch is 3.6v, but the dynamo has a speed dependant voltage output and I don't know if this would damage the capacitor? Also , it would be useful to run a mobile phone charger and a digital radio from it! Might I be better off putting a sturmey archer dynohub in the front wheel? The voltage output from them is less speed dependant. Thanks!

can a standard flag pole , on a ship , rigged to a dynamo ,generate electricty? if so how much , ie enough to power a small radio , or hand held torch , or television , or more , No.
A flag pole is to hang a flag on. It has nothing to do with being able to be connected to a generator.

Anyone own Coleman Stormbeam Dynamo Lantern W/ Fm Radio / Cell Phone Charger? This latern works great, but the cell phone charger is not charging my cell phones with the cable and USB adapter. Anyone else having the same problem? I have connected it properly. Thanks! You have to crank it to charge it, not just plug it in.

How can i hook my electric fan as a motor for my radio control??? i want to radio control my electric fan. i have a radio control car which uses a 12V DC battery for the dynamo/motor and its receiver. i want to replace the dynamo with an electric fan motor which uses 220V AC. how can i do this without destroying the receiver? run it through a small contactor controlled by a low voltage ice cube relay. But how are you gonna get 220v to the car?

Is it possible to make a self-sufficient electric car? Using a dynamo based device, like in emergency-crank radios/TVs, which generates electricity - the dynamo can be used to charge a typical car battery, which, in turn runs the motor which is charging it in a neverending cycle (self excitation): never needing gasoline or to be plugged in? The dynamo-motor's main shaft can be toothed and made into a type of driveshaft. How feasable is this in terms of power generation? Would such a motor create enough power to run an average vehicle and charge the battery which runs it? Sorry, no Its a fantasy.

Dynamo wind-up gadgets question? There are hundreds of different models of wind-up radios, but i couldn't find even one wind-up TV! Why? Wouldn't it be really cool and convenient? Even if only to watch those free local channels that you can pick up by a simple antenna. Why don't they make small travel/emergency TVs like that? if not the dynamo wind-up, then are there any other types of small batteryless tvs? where can i buy one? Its a power issue. A tv set takes way more power to operate than a radio. Just take a look at the battery packs of any battery operated tv.
Now imagine cranking your tv for 20 minutes to watch a 30 minute show. I'm sure my numbers are inaccurate but you get the idea its not a big selling point, and certainly not convenient. You are gonna have to use your legs (unless you are Popeye on spinach). Check the links I found on home-made versions! I found a setup for purchase at only $994.90.
Really cool, yes , but not really convenient.
Suggest you look into solar charging, the sun shines several hours a day whether the electricity is on or off.
And don't forget the digital tuning you will need next year to get reception.

6v 3w dynamo powering 6v 50-60hz radio can u purchase rectifiers suitable for this circuit? The source is D.C. since it is a dynamo. You need to convert the source supply to suit that of the radio. How do you intend to use the proposed rectifiers?
