Does a Dynamo/generator have to be so heavily built? Can it be lightened.? It is neccessary for me to use a dynamo in historic motor racing. Can the casing be safely machined and drilled, or will this affect the efficiency of the generator. Anyone out there know the answer? Manufacturers at one time made them with Plastic cases to try to make them lighter and cut production costs as opposed to using cast iron. It is the armature that is the heavy part. This is the large magnets covered in copper windings, plus the iron spindle running through the armature. They cannot be made any lighter or of different materials in that area because they are gauged to give the correct output, and without these materials, you would not generate any electricity. with sufficient enrgy to start an engine. I would not recommend altering it in any way.

What happens to the voltage of a generator (dynamo) when its rated rpm is exceeded? Will the voltage increase? (c) Assuming that the driver will not breakdown and that the rated load of the generator is never exceeded, will there be a possibility that the generator will overheat if used continuously (24/7) say for a month or two or even longer? The generator should have a built in voltage regulator which will adjust the field current and keep the voltage where it should be.
B. Frequency would double if the engine speed doubled. If the engine normally operates at 1800RPM for 60Hz output, doubling the speed to 3600RPM would create a 120Hz AC output.
C. I'd be concerned about the engine breaking down while operating at twice normal speed. If the voltage output remains the same, current supplied should not go higher. Check the ratings on the generator to see what its load capacity is. Some generators have a prime rating and a standby rating. Prime rating is for continuous permanent operation, standby operation is for short periods, several hours, perhaps a day or two at most.

I made an ac dynamo/generator and when I connect it to a load nothing happens? When i measure the voltage with a voltmeter I am getting about 50V AC but if I connect a load to it the voltage drops to about .01V AC. What can I do to solve this? Basically it seems to be a simple case of loading., but could be a lot many other problems.
How much did you load it?
ie the generator coil must be having a resistance much larger than your load. Remember that in the circuit, the current has to flow thru your external load as well as your coil. So if the internal impedance is too high, all your voltage drops across it.
If you need maximum power transfer, then your load resistance (assuming purely resistive load) has to be equal to internal resistance.

How can I calcululate the voltage produced by a generator of a dynamo? I have made a small dynamo using insulated copper wire a magnet which consists of two poles. I think that the voltage of the dynamo woulg depend on number of turns. Am I correct? Please explain. You know the dynamo is nothing but a DC generator and the generated voltage is E=pi*z*N*P/60*A
here pi=magnetic field density/area of magnetic field
z=no of conductors
N=speed in rpm
A=no of parallel path(=2 for wave &=P for lap windings)
P=no of poles

Can a motor, power inverter, and a dynamo(generator) generate a continous temporary electricity? I am about to make something that generates electricity continously that only requires a little effort from us(rotating the dynamo to start the flow) but i am not sure if this thing "really" works. I'll be connecting the dynamo(12v dc output) to the inverter(12v dc-220v ac) then the inverter to the motor(220v ac) then make some mechanism to connect the motor to the dynamo(again) that, i think, will generate electricity continously but not like a "perpetual" motion cause, i know, there's heat which is an energy loss. I am thinking of this thing would be connected to some other appliances like a light bulb which is worth free other than the materials used. Would that thing really work? Please explain... I need your answer... yes, but you need to add a few more parts first!(less then 10)

Can a dynamo-generator be put on a car? I know that people have put dynamo-generators on bicycles, so I say why not cars? I think of it like this... If you take an electric car and somehow attach a dynamo-generator to the wheels, couldn't the generator make more electricity that the electric engine could then use? TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. (PS I haven't done a lot of research on this, so their might be flaws that i cannot see) We can only hope that some makes millions and wins the Nobel prize for creating a true free energy / perpetual motion machine.

The reality id there are always some loss on energy caused by friction ad electric current heating that prevent such ideas from working out.

How much energy can a commercial electricty generator (dynamo) generate? I'm looking to transfer kinetic energy to electricty but in large amounts. (not a single person but rather 30 people at a time) Therefore I am wondering how electricity a large commercial dynamo can produce. I've found some appliances that convert kinetic energy into electricity but in very small amounts, I was wondering whether a proffessional dynamo (on a large commercial scale) can produce more electricity, and how much more electricity. Engine generator sets are available with ratings up to at least 2.7 million watts. That enough to furnish 56 homes with 200 amps each at 240 volts.
