Anyone own any high quality flashlight? No, not the cheapo Energizer, Duracell Daylight, etc, Mag-lite (Yes, Maglites is a cheap flashlight brand) or the ones from Home Depot. Yes, a 130 Lumen Energizer is low quality I'm curious I haven't seen anyone that own a good quality light except except military people? If you never even heard of Surefire, Fenix, Malkoff, Romisen, Sunwayman, 4Sevens you probably don't own a good quality light. I love my Maglites. I have a 6 cell Maglite that I have owned for 30 years and have only had to replace the bulb once.
As the others have said, the prices on the Maglites have actually come down...but the quality has stayed the same (very good).
I just found an old receipt here dated 1994. Would you believe that I paid $17.95 at a warehouse club for a mini-Maglite back then? I can buy the same ones today, with batteries, for $8.88 at Walmart.
I owned one SureFire tactical light in my life. I sold it before I used it too much. When I saw the cost of replacement batteries my jaw dropped. It's far easier and cheaper to buy AA or AAA batteries for the "common" torch lights.

Anyone know a good LED flashlight for camping? I'm going on a camping trip next month and I want a powerful flashlight to bring with me. I looked at the Duracell Daylight LED Flashlight but I feel like the two AA batteries wont last long. Get a LED headlamp. they are light weight and the LED`s will last forever on anything from a single A battery to 3 AAA`s. I will never use a handheld flashlight ever again. Instead of holding the light in your mouth or under your armpit when rummaging through your gear or trying to cook or trying to get settled in your tent you`ll be hands free. You can also use the headstrap to hook it on the ceiling of your tent to set it up like a lantern. I`ve had my Princeton Tec Eos for about 6 years now. Its guaranteed for life, but I havent had a problem with it yet. Its waterproof upto 3 feet and takes 3 AAA batteries. They last quite a long time, and with 4 settings- superbright for hiking, medium to save the batteries around the campsite, dim perfect for map work or reading without blinding yourself and an emergency strobe. How many know the burning foam from upholstery, chemical based carpets, fabrics is extremely toxic and more deadly that just common "wood" smoke. But in a fire they are all mixed together anyway.

My Aunty got severally burnt a few years ago in a house fire, And my 2yr old cousin lost all his toes. and both nearly died, and ever since even the slightest smell or fire, or even a lit candle gives me shivers.
She didnt have smoke alarms, and it probably could have been advoided if she did.
Everyone in our family raced out and brought smoke alarms for their house after this incident, and we make sure to change the batteries once a year.

I put a stock pot of veal stock on the stove one night. It needs to simmer for about 12 hours to finish. I left for a party with my girlfriend. We thought it'd be not much fun and would be back soon. The party was a great time, spent too long, went back to her place afterward, and it wasn't until I was at work the next morning about 10am (as a chef!), that I remembered the stock pot on the stove... A normal 30 min trip home took only about 10-15 mins! I unlocked the front door, wearing my chef's uniform and the smoke BILLOWED out the door, it was so dark inside you couldn't see across my small apartment. I opened all the windows, and pulled the pot off the stove (no flames, just a burnt pan with all the ingredients and time turned to charcoal). I went to tell the upstairs neighbor that the smoke pouring out my windows was nothing to worry about, just airing it out.
I swear to God; he told me that he had heard the smoke alarm going off for a couple hours last night but just thought it was anoying, and ignored it!!
If you hear a smoke alarm, INVESTIGATE! It's not like a car alarm, something very serious could be happening.
It was embarassing and all, but no major damage (besides my stock, pot and pride)
