CyclopsCyclops is a story about a 21st century Ku Klux Klan establishing itself in Kansas City, Missouri. Its leader, Jim Ralston, is a blue-collar worker who is approached by disenfranchised youths seeking his leadership in establishing an activist group in their downtrodden community. Their worst fears are realized when a serial killer makes his presence known in the area, the crime scenes indicating a racial motivation. Detective Darrell Mathis initiates a campaign against the Orion Killer, focusing his investigation on the Klansmen. The novel explores the intricate relations between activist groups and their surrounding communities, and how they are forced to make decisions that change their own world views and social philosophies in resolving complex issues. The Klan finds itself increasingly empowered in changing the neighborhoods in which they live, and racial barriers begin to collapse as they recognize their responsibility towards their fellow man regardless of race or creed. Marvel Select Cyclops Action FigureAt 7 inches tall and a Danger Room display base this Marvel Select Cyclops Action Figure is sure to impose his pseudo leadership skills in a somewhat effective yet terribly haughty like effect. No I kid! Cyclops had a hard job in the X-Men everybody couldn't stand him and everybody was eying up his girlfriend. I can understand why that story arc kind of came to an abrupt stop and Cyclops had to start dating other people. Guess the ladies are a sucker for...ruby eyes? They can't be interested in his personality because it is not like he has much of one. HAH! I guess I should really stop that. It is so fashionable to rip on Cyclops! Maybe I should get this Marvel Select Cyclops Action Figure and make amends. He features multiple points of articulation and a removable set of heads so this is absolutely perfect for the 2 remaining Cyclops fans out there. Argh! Sorry!$23.99
The OdysseyPerhaps the most celebrated of all Western narratives, the Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus's roundabout voyage home to Ithaca where his beloved Penelope awaits. Monster in the Forest: The Story of the CyclopBear witness as a legendary but near-forgotten work of art returns to life as filmmakers Louise Faure and Anne Julien tell the remarkable story of sculptors Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle's awe-inspiring work - The Cyclop. Constructed in a park on the outskirts of Paris and comprised of winding metal stairways, working fountains, and narrow footbridges, The Cyclops houses a variety of noisy gears and compelling gadgets designed by such renowned artists as Eva Aeppli, Larry Rivers, and Jean-Pierre Raynaud. A breathtaking monument to creativity that was twenty-years in the making, The Cyclop features all the defining traits of a sculpture created as part of the Nouveau Realisme movement, and has endured to serve as a shining example of Tinguely's "anti-museum" approach to modern art. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi$21.52

Wanderings of Odysseus: The Story of The OdysseyThe long siege of Troy is over, and the city is in ashes. Heroic King Odysseus can finally return to Ithaca, but the voyage home holds terrors far greater than any he faced during the Trojan War. Storms have thrust Odysseus's ship into unknown waters. Here he must confront not only the blunders of his crew, but far stranger perils: the one-eyed, flesh-eating Cyclops; Circe, the enchantress with the power to turn men into swine; the unnerving trip through the Land of the Dead. And when he finally reaches home, he finds his palace overrun by loutish suitors fighting to win the affections of his adored wife Penelope. Odysseus has one last thrilling battle to fight before he can reclaim his wife and his kingdom. Rosemary Sutcliff's vivid transformation brings Homer's Odyssey to life for a new generation. While simplified, the story is never "dumbed down," making it an excellent introduction to Greek mythology for readers of all ages.$8.95

The Odyssey... retell of the Cyclops story, what do you think..? I had an assignment where I had to retell an adventure in the oyssey from another point of view. What do you think... will it get me an A? I'm a 9th grader so it needs to be on that level. THANKS.
“Poseidon, my father!” I called into the open air outside my cave. My voice cut through the peaceful morning with ease.
I rubbed the vast hole where my single eye used to rest, waiting for some sort of response from my father.
Without my eye, I could only rely on my sense of hearing. I listened intently for footsteps or any indication that my father was present. But the only sound was the birds’ songs around me.
“Polyphemus!” A voice boomed without any warning. Startled, I jerked back at the sudden outburst. “What has caused you to call out for me?”
“I have been tricked!” I exclaimed, “Fooled by a horrible man!”
“Fooled by a human? I don’t believe it.” He scoffed.
I nodded hastily, “A clever man he was.” I added for my sake. I pointed to the gaping hole in the center of my forehead, “Look! He blinded me!”
It flustered me that I couldn’t gauge his reaction, but I would guess that he wasn’t exactly pleased.
“Tell me son, tell me how this happened.” He insisted.
I scratched my head. “Well I think it started when I was caring for my heard. I was minding my own business of course. I arrived at my cave with a load of dry boughs to start my fire. I went about my chores in the same routine as usual, milking my ewes and using their delicious milk for my supper.
I began feeding my fire in order to cook my meal. As my fire burst to life, a group of small men suddenly appeared in my cave.
Confused at why I had company, I asked their purpose. The man who seemed to be the leader, who I later discovered was called ‘Nohbdy’, told me that they were servers of Agamemnon from Troy.”
“Nobody?” Poseidon interrupted my story, a hint of irritation in his voice.
I nodded and continued on. “Nohbdy continued his story telling and I couldn’t help but to zone out his boasting. Though I did pick up on him threatening me with the power of Zeus, which enraged me.
I set him straight alright, I told him that no gods would terrify me enough to let them go. I demanded they tell me where their ship was located. Nohbdy then informed me that their ship was destroyed by you, the Mighty Poseidon.
His rambling was becoming quite an annoyance so I decided that I’d silence his banter. Swiftly, I swooped up a couple of his crew and put their dismembered bodies to good use in my supper. This caused a riot among the others, which pleased me.
With my newly filled belly, I plopped down and let sleep come to me.
Morning came, and I snatched a couple more men for my breakfast. I headed for the field with my heard, making sure to secure the stone to keep the little men locked inside. Evening arrived just as suddenly as morning went and I brought my whole flock inside the cave with me, readjusting the boulder behind me.
I was in the middle of finishing off another group of men when Nohbdy approached me with an ivy bowl full of dark liquid. He offered me the wine to help wash down his men. I downed the wine ferociously and demanded more. It’s not every day that I have the luxury of this liquor. I drained a couple more bowls and thanked the man for his kindness. I rewarded him with being the last of his followers to be eaten.
Things sort of blurred together from there. I lulled into a sleep soon after that.
Searing pain cut through my dream, tugging me back to reality. The horrible men had pierced my eyeball with something unbelievingly sharp. The pain was unbearable and I cried out loud for help.
Cyclopes from nearby caves gathered round my cave questioning my screams. I explained to them how Nohbdy tricked me, but they just ignored my cries of agony and went on to bed.
I was so outraged and still in excruciating pain, my eyeball was completely out now.
I hovered over the boulder with my arms outstretched; there was no way that those evil men were getting out of my cave alive, not after what they did.
I could tell that the warm sun was expanding outside my cave, and I knew my flock needed to be let out to the pasture. Cautiously, I felt for each ram before setting them free outside. I was very pleased that I had managed to do so without also freeing the men.
My thoughts were then proved wrong when I heard a voice call out to me from outside my cave. Nohbdy was taunting me.
Furious, I bounded out of my cave and chipped off a hilltop on my way, chucking it in the direction of Nohbdy’s voice. But it was too late. They had gotten away.”
“I called for you as soon as I could father. This man, Odysseus, does not deserve to walk your earth.” I told Poseidon.
“No worries son, I will make sure this Odysseus will never see his home again.” And with that, I sensed that Poseidon had left.
I felt a smirk tugging at the corners of my mouth. Take that Odysseus.
The story is very good said. And pretty precise.
I have only two remarks.."full of dark liquid" is probably not how anyone would call wine since it was quite common, and you said that in the very next sentence.no need for that.
And the other..He should call Odysseus by his name, because by the time he is speaking with his father Poseidon,he already heard the real name of 'Nobody''.Again as you said yourself at the end.
Other than that,superb.
What is the theme of the story Cyclops? Could someone please tell me the major theme in this story from the Odyssey?
The cyclops story from Homers odyssey goes kinda like:
Odyssesus and his crew had been travelling at see for ages and they saw land and decided to land there. they see it as a farming kinda place, and they go into a cave and find sheep and plenty of food, they make themselves at home inteh cave (as Greek custom was) and they ate and waited for the farmer to come back, but it turned out that they ahd actually landed on the land of the cyclops. And it was a cave that belonged to Polyphemus. He was angry. Odysseus says something like : "you have to accept us as your guests, since it is the law of Zeus" polyphemus doesnt really care, he blocks teh cave with a giant boulder, and starts eating them alive. Odysseus tricks him by giving him wine which was not mixed with water, it was very strong wine and he gives it to him neat (normally mixed water:wine 1:20) polyphemus falls over drunk, and while he is sleeping it off, they get a giant stick, and shrpen it, and burn it to make it tough, and then gouge out his eye, which hisses and bubbles with the hot wood in his eye. He screams out in pain. Odysseus had previously told polyphemus that his name was Nobody. So polyphemus runs out screming "nobody blined me" and so none of the other cyclopes care. He tehn wants to get revenge on them, but has to let his sheep out, odysseus and crew hang to the underside of the sheep, so polyphemus thinks that they are all sheep and they escape, as they are sailing away, odyssesus shouts "it was I odyssesus who blinded you" and polyphemus throws a few rocks and then tells his fater (poseidon, god of sea) to curse odyssesus, and not let him return home.
The theme, i would guess, is showing odysseus' cunningness, his ability to use his brain, and not just his brawn, which made him a favourite of athena, also it shows cyclops as barbaric, since they are cannabilistic, and show no respect to the gods. I would say that the theme would be that smart outdoes strong. Odysseus uses his brain, to defeat an almost undefeatable opponent.
questions about The Cyclops story from the Odyssey? Please read the passage below and help me with the questions underneath that, thanks in advance :) : He seized and drank the bowl, and it went down so fiery and smooth he called for more: 'Give me another, thank you kindly. Tell me, how are you called? I'll make a gift will please you. Even Cyclopes know the wine grapes grow out of grassland and loam in heaven's rain, but here's a bit of nectar and ambrosia!' Three bowls I brought him, and he poured them down. I saw the fuddle and flush come over him, then I sang out in cordial tones: 'Cyclops you ask my honorable name? Remember the gift you promised me, and I shall tell you. My name is Nohbdy : mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me nohbdy.' And he said: Nohbdy's my meat, then, after I eat his friends. Others come first. There's a noble gift, now' For what reason did Odysseus lie about his name in this situation? What is the gift that the Cyclops promises to give Odysseus? im not sure but i think the gift is that the Cyclopes will save him for last and eat his friends first. please correct me if im wrong it sounds like he was sparing his life at least for the time being. And about his name probably because his name would give the cyclops some sort of power over him
How is the cyclops story in the odyssey an allegory?
it teaches the lesson that curiosity is not such a good thing (odysseus wanted to see the cyclops and got a bunch of his crew killed)
hope i helped :D
Cyclops story Latin to English :>? Postea Graeci ad terram veniunt in qua gigantes habitant. Gigantes solum unum oculum habent. Alius dolus Ulixis! Consilium Ulixis, autem, iram I could translate this to you, but you should really try to translate it yourself. What would be the point in learning if everybody did the work for you?
how does athena help odysseus in books 9-12? story of the cyclops, aeolus, the laestrygonains, circe, Hades... sirens, scylla, charybdis, and cattle of the sun????
10 pts thanks.......
this is the odyssey btw
Athena helps Odysseus with the sirens by telling him to not listen to their song or, if he desperately wanted to, have his men tie him up so he cannot get free.
She helps him with Scylla by only allowing it to attack his ship once.
She helps him with Charybdis by allowing him to live even though his ship was destroyed.
She tells him not to eat the cattle of the sun, but his men do anyways, and he escapes but is doomed to wander the seas a little while longer.
She helps with the cyclops by giving him strength to blind the cyclops and then allows him to escape via the livestock.
The laestrygonians she helped him by helping him escape even though some of his men died ( I think some died)
With Circe Athena tells Odysseus how to stop her from charming him and warns him about her crafty ways.
In the Underworld she tells him how to converse with the dead without danger.
Finally, the aeolus he gets the bag of bad winds and he has smooth sailing all the way until he almost reaches home, then while he was sleeping his men opened it and they sailed away.
Hope this helped.
is the story the Cyclops underline or quotations marks? "The Cyclops" because it is just one part of the Odyssey (which should be underlined).
help on Cyclops story .? How does this description of the cyclops relate to the Greek concept of a civilized society .? ...giants,louts without a law to bless them. In ignorance leaving the fruitage of the earth in mystery to the immortal gods,... i dont think it does but the cyclopes were the thunderbolt makers for zeus and when the titans and kronos ruled the world.hope this helps!
cyclops and odysseus - the greek story? Alright, at my school i have been grouped up with several people and we have to make a whole play within three weeks. I have no clue what the story is of the cyclops and odysseus and i have to write the script so could someone give me a list of characters and write what the story is about because i have no clue!
Do not listen to the girl above... she knows nothing about the story, about the only part she had right was the eye gouging part.
When Odysseus sailed home from the Trojan War, his pack got separated from the rest, one of the islands/places he visited on his journey back was this island filled with giants. So when they got there they saw sheep, followed the sheep into a cave where they found cheese and wine as well. Then entered polyphemus or whatever the giants name was, asked odysseus who he and his men were and why they were trespassing on his land and in his house, Odysseus then spoke and said he was nobody and that he and his crew were only trying to find their way home. The Giant however was tired of eating nothing but sheep and wine and cheese decided to hold them prisoner (ate one of Odysseus's men to I believe) and then drank himself to sleep. While he was sleeping Odysseus had his men sharpen a stick to make it into a spear so he could gouge the cyclops eye out from a safe distance. When that was done he ordered his men to hide underneath the sheep (which were incredibly large in size and could hide a full grown man) He then proceeded to do the deed of the eye gouging which of course woke the cyclops up and he screamed and yelled, then after enough pain had passed he grew angry and plotted his revenge against Odysseus to which he tried searching the cave but only found sheep, so he thought surely if he opened the boulder (which covered the cave) that the men would rush out and then he'd grab them. He proceeded to do so but was only meant by his sheep ( which Odysseus and his men were hiding under) So he called out to his Cyclops friend (in which the girl above at least got that right as well) but by that time Odysseus had already escaped to their ship and Odysseus feeling a surge of victory proceed to taunt the Giant when they were well enough out at sea. The Giant then picked up the boulder that blocked the entrance to the cave and threw it in the direction that he heard Odysseus's voice which nearly hit the boat. He then proceeded to curse Odysseus and begged his father (Poseidon) to avenge the action that was against him, which ended up really bad in the end for Odysseus and his men.
And that's the summary. You should read the Odyssey.
is there a bible story regarding a cyclops? i heard something about a cyclops and bible stories. what is the story?
There is the cy clone or whirlwind for Elijah and Philip, these sow the wind and they reap the whirlwind as in the Revelation, for the peoples of The Spirit are like the Wind when it blows. One can feel that it is present and Living and Active.
The creatures are covered with eyes and the pyramid has One All Seeing over all of creation as not from On or totally part of Egypt, but Something Greater among the servants. For is not Egypt the written Empire lamented by Jeremiah and Isaiah?
