How long does it take curly afro biracial hair like Cree Summer, Kelis, or Tracee Ellis Ross to grow? i have hair like them. i have been growing it out for 2 years. this is me on my myspace http://www.myspace.com/underestimatednevatainted when i was younger my hair was past my shoulders. it seems like it grew faster back then, and the curls weren't as tight. i had it permed and i shaved it bald and such to go natural. so i've been growing it out long. really long like it used to be. i just wonder how long it takes. like its taking so long, guess because its not straight. you can't tell the growth unless i press it straight. but its growing. i'm not pressing or perming it again, but i miss my long hair. i miss putting my hair up in ponytails. i'm not into wearing weaves. so yeah. a relative of mine with hair like mines has her hair to her midback and it took 9 years. that's a long wait. so i am wondering. how long will it take to get it past my shoulders. will that be like 10 years from now. thanks. It does take time, but just keep your hair healthy and take your vitamins and before you know it, you'll be there. A friend of mine went natural and 3 years later had nice long curly hair

I am of mixed race, my hair is like Tracy Ellis Ross and Cree Summer ? it is more manageable when it is wet or has conditioner in it. i have tried many products but when my hair is dry it is frizzy and it gets puffy. when i was younger it was natural and long. i'm 25 and i have been natural for about two years and it doesn't seem to be growing as fast as it use to. i have been trying new things on it. were as before i would just wash it and put it in a pony tail. please help if you know any natural products i can use to bring moisture to my hair and help me with less frizz and growth or websites please help? Just an FYI about hair texture, since you mentioned how your hair was when you were younger. Your hair texture, and even color (have you ever wondered why a 9 y/o with very, very blond hair will grow up to have a dark brown color?), can change from the time you're a child to when you hit puberty. This is natural. My natural hair texture was very, very loose (like Chilli's from TLC) when I was younger, but as an adult my curls are tighter and this is a natural, permanent change that most people will probably go through (I'm black, not mixed with anything, btw). But, IMO, curly hair looks best when it's wet, but that's not one's true hair texture. Your true hair texture is what your hair looks like when it's completely dry with no products in it.
As I learned from motowngirl's website (listed below), because our curly hair makes our hair look shorter than it actually is, it's very possible that it's growing, but we are not able to "see" it because of it's curly nature. I'd say take some pictures of your hair stretched out and then maybe a month or two later take some more pictures and compare the length and keep doing this over time and you'll see that it is growing.
Our natural curls dries up easily, this much is true. What you have to focus on is retaining that moisture by sealing it in. Natural oils are used to do this. You can try many natural oils such as olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, and many other natural oils you can choose from. Pure olive oil works for me, but it is a bit heavy, so many people use extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Also, curl activator is great for keeping hair moisturized all day. My hairdresser recommended that I use this and said this is the only thing my hair needs because it contains ingredients to keep my hair well nourished and moisturized, and it brings in my natural curls. I used it and my hair stayed moisturized all day and I had no trouble with my curls. The only reason I stopped using it was because I wanted to try other products and natural stuff, but I would have no problem using it again. My hairdresser also said the reason why people who have curls (jheri curls, not natural) seem to have fast growing hair is because their hair is always kept moisturized by the curl activator and this is what the hair needs.
My advice is to visit natural hair forums and you'll get as many product recommendations as you need as well as advice and opinions from other naturals; this is how I've leaned so much about taking care of my natural hair and why I don't have a dry, frizzy fro :-p. Most of the sites have forums and you can find many more sites if you search for "black natural hair".

How many people are cree summer and kelis fans? from the moment i saw her on a different world. i thought. she's so cool, so cute, and so real. i thought she was so eccentric. when i saw her videos on youtube, and read about her being multiracial black, native american, and white, a pirates sistah, etc. i was like wow, how cool is she. she is pagan, and she also is a great voice actor and singer, i love her curly afro hair too. is anybody else a cree summer fan? i also think kelis is cool. i like her colorful clothes, and new haircuts. its like people duplicated her stuff though. her caught out there reminds me of beyonce's ring the alarm, and her sideways haircut reminds me of rihannia's. both chicks cree summer and kelis don't sell millions, like other superstars. why??? are you a fan? they are beautiful..to be honest their population of females didn't like them..Just like people don't like Beyonce (I do )they don't like beautiful people because then they feel insecure.
