FAQ about Cree Stock

Im investing $7000 Into These 20 Stocks. What do you think? I dont like the idea of mutual funds, CD's, IRA's and all the other stuff i just want to invest in stocks. With the $7000 that i have i want to invest $350 into each of the following stocks. What do you think? • E*Trade [ETFC] - $350 • International Coal Group [ICO] -$350 • CitiGroup [C] -$350 • BlockBuster [BBI / BBI.B] -$350 • YUM [YUM] -$350 • eBay [EBAY] -$350 • Kinross Gold [KGC] - $350 • Accuray [ARAY] - $350 • General Electric [GE] - $350 • Merrill Lynch [MER] - $350 • Intel [INTC] - $350 • PALM [PALM] - $350 • Electronic Arts [ERTS] - $350 • St. Joe [JOE] - $350 • Microsoft [MSFT] - $350 • Wachovia [WB] - $350 • Cree [CREE] - $350 • Energy Conversion Devices [ENER] - $350 • Annaly Capital Management [NLY] - $350 • IMAX [IMAX] - $350 Acting on some of the advises i have received can someone help me narrow it down to 10 companies in 10 different sectors? Interesting question. With the amount of money you have I definitely thing you should narrow the number of stocks you want to invest in to probably less than 10... probably 5 or so. A general rule I heard is you want to try to keep your trading costs to less than 1.5%... If you're commissions are $8/trade, you want to invest in chunks of $1067+ so the trading costs don't cut into your profits too much (1 buy + 1 sell = $16, .015/16=1066.67). The bigger the chunks, and the lower your commissions, the more you get to keep.
I plugged your numbers into a spreadsheet I created to evaluate stocks. I use this spreadsheet purely to eliminate stocks from my consideration, once this is done you should still additional evaluation to be done. So do your own due diligence. I created the spreadsheet based on the Stocks to Watch worksheet from Jason Kelly's book "The Neatest Little Guide to Stock Market Investing". I highly recommend reading this book, it gives some good insight on different methods of evaluating stocks. I eliminated and arranged the stocks according to my preferences which may not match up with yours.
I don't know how you arrived at this group of stocks. I would keep on looking. You may have some insight that I don't. (I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I would take some more time and get some more ideas and refine your list a little more.)
First I arranged your companies by industry and arranged each industry in a order of preference a determined by valuation ratios (p/e, p/s, p/b)... I also looked at 5 years of sales numbers to help come up with an order of preference.... here's what I came up with (again this is very rough and only based on the numbers):
WB Financial
NLY Financial
C Financial
MER Financial
JOE Financial
ETFC Financial
MSFT Technology
INTC Technology
ERTS Technology
PALM Technology
CREE Technology
ENER Technology
YUM Services
EBAY Services
BBI Services
KGC Basic Materials
ICO Basic Materials
GE Conglomerates
ARAY Healthcare
IMAX Consumer Goods
I then narrowed the field to 10 by picking the top few (or one) from each industry:
WB Financial
NLY Financial
C Financial
MSFT Technology
INTC Technology
ERTS Technology
YUM Services
KGC Basic Materials
ICO Basic Materials
GE Conglomerates
I again took these 10 and arranged them in rough order of what I perceived best to to least best:
MSFT - Microsoft Corp
NLY - Annaly Mortgage Ord Shs
KGC - Kinross Gold Ord Shs
WB - Wachovia Corp Ord Shs
C - Citigroup Ord Shs
YUM - YUM! BRANDS INC
GE - General Electric Ord Shs
INTC - Intel Corp
ICO - International Coal Group Inc
ERTS - Electronic Arts Inc
I just tried to narrow your list as you suggested, I'm not recommending these stocks.
P.S. Sorry some of the formatting didn't come through.

Anishnawbe? do you know ? I am First nation from Canada Anishnawbe –Meaning of this word, First people, Original people, whence lowered the male of the species, first man. In many books and websites, they state that we are Algonquin stock. However, they are incorrect, we recognize our selves as Anishnawbe. Ojibways, Ojibwa, Ojibwe, Ojicree, Cree, Chippewa, Potawatomi and Algonquin, etc. and we speak the Anishnawbe language. Lenni Lenape is another way to say Anishnawbe in old form. Many of Anishnawbe people were a big family at one time, before the whites came to this land. To learn more ask the elders, go to the Mi-day-win ceremony and to other ceremonies and listen to the elders speak and you will learn the history and values of the people. The teachings I talk about are not my words, but from the elders stories. Many of us know these old stories and other stories that have been past down from generation to generation. do you know this? Do you know your history? who you are? even before american? My great-grandmother was Mohawk and my first cousin speaks Algonquin as he was a native drummer and singer.
They are all Americans first. You can't live in the past, there is only the now.It is great to be proud of your relations but you have to move forward or get lost in the past.

How come First Nation, Metis, Inuit graduation numbers are low? In Canada there's only 1 in 4 of Aboriginal children who are graduating high school. how come the number is so low? I'm a Cree who is part of the Treaty Six, and part of the Treaty is free education. FREE education, which means we get into post-secondary free of charge. When I first heard of the numbers I was stock in how many people are actually graduating high school. So why is the number so low? Is it probelms at home maybe? A combo of some of things others have mentioned, plus a lack of personal ambition/drive. Some people use poverty & racism as an excuse to fail. My wife is Cree (Alberta variety...) and is not only a high school grad, she went to college, and is a long serving member of the Canadian Forces. (as am I) She's told me stories about her childhood, and I know she experienced racism in its worst forms. She also grew up in a very poor family, as both her mother and father had terminal illnesses, and were unable to work from the late 70's onward. However she didn't use those things as an excuse to throw her life away. It is all about choices. You choose to take responsibility for your life, or you don't. My wife, one of her brothers and her sister are all hard working, productive members of society. They chose to be that way. One other brother, on the other hand, is a walking stereotype. Again, it is all about the choices you make in life, and some people make a lot of bad choices, and never take responsibility for them, or make the effort to correct their mistakes. Most Canadians would kill for free post secondary education. Many people who have the option choose to live a life of low expectations. Just sad.

These companies will or may benefit from stimulus money. Are they all betraying America's capitalist values? Are they all helping to usher in socialism in America? We are going to by military means destroy the legislative and judicial branches and Obama is going to take over the country in a power grab we have not seen in 230 years and socialism will be ushered in. LOL
I say, give it a rest. We will NEVER BE SOCIALIST, IT CANT BE DONE. I wish people actually knew the DEFINITION

When shoud I buy CREE? Now wait til it drops under 15 or what? I have followed this stock for a while and I believe they are a great company but the economic environment and cyclical nature of them has led them to drop recently I have seen them close to 10 before and I am not sure how far they will drop. Technically the stock is very weak. It has dropped way below its long term resistance level--$25. There is no telling where the bottom might be. Sit tight and wait for the technical indicators to improve. The field it is in is subject to the business cycle and there is every indication that eh business cycle has turned south.

What is the prognosis on Cree the stock.? I am thinking about adding a little to my position and since I am wonderful at being on the wrong side of the trade I thought I would ask a few opinions. Is the market topping and should I wait for a correction. What about the stock itself? It seems to have fallen back into a 50 dollar range. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated Cree is one of the leaders in the LED lighting revolution.
