for north american cree indians ? does this explain it well?
White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for cree
Oh will we ever be set free?
Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom a stab in the back
Women and children and cowards attack
Run to the hills run for your lives
Run to the hills run for your lives
Soldier blue on the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good indians are tame
Selling them whisky and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
What is "it" that is explained so well?
"Run to The Hills"
"Run to the Hills" is Iron Maiden's sixth single and the first single from their 1982 album The Number of the Beast. It was written by Steve Harris, bassist and founder of the band.
The song itself is about the conflict between Native Americans and the invading white men. The first verse is written from the point of view of the native Cree, the second from the point of view of white soldiers, and the third from a more neutral observer point of view. It may have been inspired by the film Soldier Blue, about the massacre of a peaceful Cheyenne village by US militia (one line goes "Soldier blue in the barren wastes" and then refers to rape and murder amongst other atrocities).
The song was released as a single on 12 February 1982, as a prelude to the album. This would be the first single released by the band to feature current vocalist Bruce Dickinson."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_to_the_Hills
This was said this in a commentary on a fan based web site.
"Perhaps Maiden's most publicly recognisable song and their first big hit single, 'Run To The Hills' describes the Indian wars of the American west, first from the Indian's perspective and then from the white man's perspective. It is a fast-tempo song with a drum beat that is reminiscent of gallopping horses. Although it is a Maiden classic, it is a bit too short. Nevertheless, the song was critical in opening the way for Maiden's invasion of America.
In the lyrics, the sentence "the only good Indians are tame" probably refers to the infamous American proverb "The only good Indian is a dead Indian". This mindless and absurd proverb is said to stem from the following anecdote that took place in January 1869, at old Fort Cobb, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, shortly after Custer's fight with Black Kettle's band of Cheyennes: Old Toch-a-way (Turtle Dove), a chief of the Comanches, on being introduced to General Philip Sheridan (1831–1888), desired to impress the white man and managed to say in English "Me, Toch-a-way; me good Injun." The General, a known bigot and Indian hater, just smiled and answered: "The only good Indians I ever saw were dead.". Although Sheridan later denied having made such a statement, the sentence became quickly a saying that is still used nowadays, although the Indians that have not been physically killed now live in reservations where alcoholism – caused mainly by unemployment – and squalor contribute to kill an already dying culture. Who said that America was "the land of the free and home of the brave"?

Do I think this explains the fight between soldiers and braves, no the video leads me to believe that even though their intent was to bring to light this fight using clips of a comedy from Buster Keaton made me feel otherwise.

important historical events for cree indians ? important historical events for cree indians ? The Cree are one of the major Algonkian-speaking Indians of Canada. They expanded rapidly in the 17th and 18th centuries after acquiring firearms and beginning their fur trade with the Europeans. But wars with the Dakota and Blackfeet reduced their numbers. Also smallpox epidemics in 1784 and 1838, further reduced their numbers. Today there are only scattered groups of about 70,000. The Cree were divided into two major groups: the Woodland or Swampy Cree and the Plains Cree. The Plains Cree lived on the Great Plains and lived by hunting the bison. The Woodland Cree hunted caribou, moose, bear, hare and beaver. I hope that this has been a help to you.
are there any traditions that the cree indians did for first born sons?
There are at least five different bands of Cree people. All of whom have different traditions practiced at sometime during their lives. What you refer to are called rights of passage ceremonies for that are limited to males only.

Can you tell me about Pawnee and Cree indians? *several questions*
I have a lot of Pawnee and Cree indian in my background, what were the Pawnee and Cree known for? I am very good with horses and I have always been, does this have anything to do with it? What would my name be in Pawnee, or how do I get it? Do I earn it?
The Pawnee, also known as Horn Head, and Red Horn made their villages on the Platte River. They are related to the Omaha, Osage, and Ree. They were semi nomadic farmers who also hunted buffalo. They got their names Horn Head and Red Horn by the practice of the warriors shaving their heads except for the crown of their heads which they greased with tallow and red clay and formed it into a horn looking projection. They were feirce warriors. Up until 1858 they were the only nation north of Mexico that practiced any form of human sacrifice. It was believed their god, The Morning Star, demanded a bride in order for the crops to grow. Every 4-6 years a small war party would set out to capture a virgin from another nation. Once back in their village, the young woman was pampered until time for the ceremony. She would be tied to the burial scaffold and shot in the heart with the sacred arrow by the Morning Star Priest. In the late 1840's after disease decimated their villages, the Pawnee began scouting for the us army againt their neighbors who were also their enemies.
The Pawnee (also Paneassa, Pari, Pariki) are a Caddoan-language Native American tribe that historically lived along outlying tributaries of the Missouri River: the Platte, Loup and Republican Rivers in present-day Nebraska and in Northern Kansas. They were one of the dominant tribes on the Great Plains and followed a way of life whose major patterns had been continuous since about 1250 CE. In the 1830s, they still numbered about 12,000 people, as they had escaped some of the depredations of exposure to Eurasian infectious diseases. They have a ritual named Trails of tears From Nebraska to Oklahoma where they were exiled.
By 1859, their numbers were reduced to about 3,400 and they entered a reservation in Nebraska. Still subject to pressure from Lakota and European Americans, finally, most accepted relocation to a reservation in Oklahoma. This is where the nation primarily lives today. The Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma is federally recognized. Their autonym is Chaticks-si-Chaticks, meaning "Men of men".
The Cree were made up of 2 distinct groups. The name Cree, comes from "Kristineaux", or "Kri" for short; a name given to Native Americans from the James Bay area by French fur traders.
The Cree are one of the largest groups of First Nations/Native Americans in North America, with 200,000 members living in Canada. In Canada, the major proportion of Cree live north and west of Lake Superior, in Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and the Northwest Territories, although 15,000 live in eastern Quebec.[1]
In the United States, this Algonquian-speaking people lived historically from Lake Superior westward. Today, they live mostly in Montana, where they share a reservation with Chippewa (Ojibwa).[2]
The Cree Nation is generally divided into eight groups (some political, others cultural):
Skilled American bison hunters and horsemen, the Plains Cree were allied with the Assiniboine and the Saulteaux before they encountered French settlers in the 16th century.
The Cree are the largest group of First Nations in Canada, with over 200,000 members and 135 registered bands.[15] This large population may be a result of the Crees' traditional openness to inter-tribal marriage. Together, their reserve lands are the largest of any First Nations group in the country.[15] The largest Cree band and the second largest First Nations Band in Canada after the Six Nations Iroquois is the Lac La Ronge Band in northern Saskatchewan.

HELP! What was the climate like for Cree indians? My project is due tomorrow and i have yet to figure out what their climate was like. Thanks! Long cold winters and short summers with lots of mosquitoes and Black Flies. They live in a broad band across northern Canada.
How Cree Indians culture was threatened? If you mean the pre-reservation Cree then it was the encroaching European fur traders that married into the tribes and altered the culture. Also non-Native influence has had an impact on Cree traditional woodland culture.
