They all speak closely related Anishinaabemowin /Anishinaabe languages , of the Algonquian -language family. The meaning of Anishnaabeg is "First-" or "Original-Peoples". Another definition refers to "the good humans", or good people, meaning those who are on the right road/path given to them by the Creator or Gitchi-manitou (Great Spirit). Not all Anishinaabemowin speakers, however, call themselves Anishinaabeg. The Ojibwe people who moved to what are now the prairie provinces of Canada call themselves Nakaw(-k) and their branch of the Anishinaabe language, Nakawmowin. Particular Anishinaabeg groups have different names from region to region.Anishinaabe and Anishinini distribution around 1800There are many variant spellings of the Anishinaabe name, depending on the transcription scheme and also on whether the name is singular or plural. Therefore, different spelling systems may indicate vowel length or spell certain consonants differently (Anishinabe , Anicinape ); meanwhile, variants ending in -eg/ek (Anishinaabeg , Anishinabek ) come from an Algonquian plural, whil...$20.05

Indigenous Education At Crossroads James Bay Cree And The Tribal PeopThe present Study invites us to these worlds of Pain and suffering and also new initiatives in Education in the margins of such suffering. The Author presents us case studies of predicament of tribal education among the Cree people in Canada and tribal people of Orissa. She argues that there is lack of commitment on the part of Government and formal School system to teach in the Language of tribals. There is similar apathy to community participation in the affairs of the school. In this context, Schools run by Sikshasandhan offer a glimpse of hope as they inspire partiPrefaceForewordI. for north american cree indians ? does this explain it well?
White man came across the sea
He brought us pain and misery
He killed our tribes, he killed our creed
He took our game for his own need
We fought him hard we fought him well
Out on the plains we gave him hell
But many came too much for cree
Oh will we ever be set free?
Riding through dustclouds and barren wastes
Galloping hard on the plains
Chasing the redskins back to their holes
Fighting them at their own game
Murder for freedom a stab in the back
Women and children and cowards attack
Run to the hills run for your lives
Run to the hills run for your lives
Soldier blue on the barren wastes
Hunting and killing their game
Raping the women and wasting the men
The only good indians are tame
Selling them whisky and taking their gold
Enslaving the young and destroying the old
What is "it" that is explained so well?
"Run to The Hills"
"Run to the Hills" is Iron Maiden's sixth single and the first single from their 1982 album The Number of the Beast. It was written by Steve Harris, bassist and founder of the band.
The song itself is about the conflict between Native Americans and the invading white men. The first verse is written from the point of view of the native Cree, the second from the point of view of white soldiers, and the third from a more neutral observer point of view. It may have been inspired by the film Soldier Blue, about the massacre of a peaceful Cheyenne village by US militia (one line goes "Soldier blue in the barren wastes" and then refers to rape and murder amongst other atrocities).
The song was released as a single on 12 February 1982, as a prelude to the album. This would be the first single released by the band to feature current vocalist Bruce Dickinson."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Run_to_the_Hills
This was said this in a commentary on a fan based web site.
"Perhaps Maiden's most publicly recognisable song and their first big hit single, 'Run To The Hills' describes the Indian wars of the American west, first from the Indian's perspective and then from the white man's perspective. It is a fast-tempo song with a drum beat that is reminiscent of gallopping horses. Although it is a Maiden classic, it is a bit too short. Nevertheless, the song was critical in opening the way for Maiden's invasion of America.
In the lyrics, the sentence "the only good Indians are tame" probably refers to the infamous American proverb "The only good Indian is a dead Indian". This mindless and absurd proverb is said to stem from the following anecdote that took place in January 1869, at old Fort Cobb, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, shortly after Custer's fight with Black Kettle's band of Cheyennes: Old Toch-a-way (Turtle Dove), a chief of the Comanches, on being introduced to General Philip Sheridan (1831–1888), desired to impress the white man and managed to say in English "Me, Toch-a-way; me good Injun." The General, a known bigot and Indian hater, just smiled and answered: "The only good Indians I ever saw were dead.". Although Sheridan later denied having made such a statement, the sentence became quickly a saying that is still used nowadays, although the Indians that have not been physically killed now live in reservations where alcoholism – caused mainly by unemployment – and squalor contribute to kill an already dying culture. Who said that America was "the land of the free and home of the brave"?

Do I think this explains the fight between soldiers and braves, no the video leads me to believe that even though their intent was to bring to light this fight using clips of a comedy from Buster Keaton made me feel otherwise.

native american tribe names? My friend has got three kids, all named after native american indian tribes
Cheyenne
Cree (Boy)
Cherokee (cherry !)
She's expecting again and would like some ideas for more names, i havent got a clue..... any ideas on here would be v. helpful. She doesnt know the sex of the baby, so boy and girl names would be great.
Thanks in advance
they're all lovely :) what about peach to go with the cherry?
i know its not native but how about Peach Dakota? sounds quite cool ???
Will my kids be black or indian? Me and my girlfriend have discussed having children. I am black and she is pure Indian. Her tribe is Cree Indian. My immediate family on my dad's side is mixed black and lakota indian. My father, my uncles, and both my aunties Conchita and Clotile are black and lakota, meaning that our kids will be more Indian than black because I dont carry my pure 100% african blood from the motherland anymore. Since my woman is pure Indian, then my indian blood would flow over to my kids and theyd actually be over 50% Indian because of that. I would prefer my kids to be more black because Im pro-black before anything. As a black man, Im concerned about passing my African blood down to our kids because I want my kids to appreciate the black struggle and honor our people and our ancestors from the motherland.
Why should they have too choose? They would be biracial, just make sure your raise them to embrace both cultures.
We all have blue blood anyways.
Where can I find out more about the Cree Nation/Algonquin Language online? Family stories have always said that we had Cherokee blood. Genealogy has been pretty fruitless. I bought the books that had prints of the Dawes Roll, the Baker Roll.
Recently, I had my DNA taken and I pull up majority Central Asia, and Alaska Indian, more defined lately have gone to Cree Indian. I have a sense of wanting to belong where I am lead. I don't care about taking advantage of the system for education, etc. That ship's sailed. My calling is to belong to my tribe and be active to make some positive contributions with my time and energy, as well as teaching my children a valuable part of their heritage.
I would love to hear from anyone with knowledge of this. Thank you in advance for your time.

what is: American Indian born in Canada? Hi, So I live in Canada. I've been on the phone with USCIS they sent me to this website: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=82a83a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=82a83a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD Here is my story, My mother has a status card to the indian nation band # 357 (Shoal Lake Cree Nation) On the website the USCIS gave me it says 'American Indian born in canada' What is an american indian? does it count for just indian in general? The Cree nation is an american / canadian tribe. mine is in canada. do i still have 'american indian' status? Its not very clear what american indian is. please explain this to me the best you can. If you have NO KNOWLEDGE on this matter please do not comment. I need an educated answer. please provide details. Thank you.
Doesn't it piss you off when people try to tell you who your ancestor is? Ok I have a friend and he is Black and told me he had some Cherokee in him. I said that is cool , I am part Cree. Then he told me. How can you claim to be part Indian. Natives hate the white man. So I am like , Maybe you should give my Grandma that memo , she did marry my grandfather ya know. Anyhow, this really pissed me off. I am French/ American Indian and Tribe Cree. You can even tell because of my darker complexion and hair, most people confuse me as being spanish or italian. I have to tell people sometimes that I am not spanish. It just pisses me off when people try to tell you who your family is. what do you guys think of this... wow tiffy. Where did you get in that, I was trying to shove my heritige down somebodies throat. He told me he was part native american and I said what tribe? He said cherokee and I said that's cool I am part Cree. I was only tryin to relate to my buddy, that is all. I do know plenty about my heritage. And no people should take your word for it when you tell them something instead of calling them a lier, especially your friends. Oh and Samguy I checked out that video and seen it before on history channel. Although, I would never tell him something like that. I will just take him for his word. That would be just ignorant. http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee206/darkmanx274/?action=view¤t=Mike.jpg My pic If you are interested to know more about the Cree peoples here is a nice informative site http://www.bigorrin.org/cree_kids.htm Lots of people have that issue. Ignore them and go on. Sometimes ignorance can't seem to be helped. Honestly,I really don't believe there are any pure, 100%, one race people who exist in the world. (maybe in Japan, some Nordic countries, and some Arabic countries.) Otherwise, everybody probably has a mix of something somewhere, even if it doesn't show up in their direct features. It makes me mad too when all people ever think of when they think of Israeli is a European looking person. Normally, Israeli's would have had dark hair, olive skin (or darker) like me and looked more like our Arabian cousins. Well, now, due to mixing, we can't distinguish who is who and who doesn't belong. Anyway, I understand how you feel. Even so, remember, we are all just human and nobody can ever take away your heritage...whether they believe you or not. (BTW, by your self description, you are quite the piece of eye candy...via my standards)
does anyone know where to find a map of the regions...? of the cree indian tribe and the algonquin indian tribe??
