Which flashlight should I pick and which batteries to go with it? I'm trying to find a flashlight and batteries to go with it for when I go camping. I'm just looking for something strong that will light up paths in the forest. I have found two sets of flashlights/batteries that may be suitable for me but since I have never chosen a flashlight and do not know much about batteries/flashlights, I'm looking for some help, Thanks! LED Flashlight Question? Hi I have a Flashlight with a Cree Q5 LED bulb and it supports .7V-4.2V and I was wondering if it would be brighter if I put a rechargeable Li-ion 14500 battery. Right now I'm just running regular Duracell AA with 1.5V. Would It be brighter if I bought the 14500 batteries? What brand should I get if I wanted to purchase the 14500's? The flashlight is advertised at 230 lumens but it only uses one AA so I dont think It can reach 230. But if I buy the 14500 would that maximize the light output? Thank You If the driver can handle it, it should be significantly brighter.

I've recently purchased a Mini Maglite that is a 2 "AA" cell LED flashlight. I've been very happy with this flashlight. It has the rugged dependability that made Maglite famous, and the brightness out of the 2 "AA" batteries rivals that of my traditional 4 "D" cell Maglite.
The one feature that SOLD me on this flashlight was the use of "AA" batteries. I've had LED flashlights in the past that require fancy lithium camera batteries that are extra pricey and hard to find....not a fan. You can go to just about any convenience store and pick up some AA's though.

are Cree brand flashlights any good? I know nothing of the brand It appears to be a good brand, but you need to be wary of cheap knockoffs. I've provided some links to places where folks take their flashlights seriously.

EDC flashlights? or favorite flashlights? I never see any flashlight questions on the hunting section... (besides the dude wanting to mount a light to his shotgun). Whats your favored flashlight? If you would have asked me this a good few months ago i would have said my standard AA mini mag light. But Here last month we went through a period where snow knocked out our power for a good 2-3 days, while the maglights kept working they were pissing me off because i had to change the stupid light bulbs or they just werent lighting up enough. So i did some research and studied away and saw guys were really like these new Cree LED lights. I looked at SureFire and saw what people had to say but from what i picked up, while they are good lights they just arent worth the money and guys were talking about Fenix and 4Sevens as coming up to being serious competition for Surefire. I went and picked up a Fenix LD20 and ive got to say. It is well worth the money and now im curious why i never looked at these types of flashlights before. Its my first investment in a flashlight but im happy and hell its bright enough i would use it for night hunting out to a good 100 you can see there eyes and im sure it would give you a positive Id on what they are out at about 40-50 yards. So whats your favorite flashlight? Oh wow, I am a flashlight maniac! I am not fooling when I say that I own about 50 different flashlights; everything from the little keychain LED lights that can fit into a breast pocket of a shirt, up to the 6 cell Mag Instrument lights.
These days, the absolute best value that I have found are the Coleman 115 lumen LED lights that sell for about $25 at most big box retailers. These things really put out the light and are small and compact enough that they can fit into your coat pocket. The battery life in them is pretty good and the bulbs are supposed to last a lifetime.

Any ideas for a good flashlight? I am looking for a very good flashlight. One that is relatively small but very bright. Must have the push button on the end and must be black. Can spend about $60 for this, so I want the best for the money. Right now I am looking at a Smith & Wesson M&P Tactical CREE LED Flashlight. Fenix LD40, 10 bucks more than your target price and a much more versatile design. Also it uses 4x AA batteries that are easier to obtain (and cheaper) than the CR123 batteries the S&W light uses.

is it okay to use energizer lithium AA's in a digital camera? i have my trusty panasonic dmc lz4 that i've had for a long enough time to understand i can trust it. during that whole time i had been using alkaline and n.m.h. rechargeable. but then a couple weeks ago i found out about cree and luxeon flashlights, and lithium batteries along with them. so.....i went and got a couple for my digital camera. took the batteries and the camera on 2 walks with the dog.....took a hundred pictures and used the flash about 10 times....still full batt. indicator. with the alkalines or the n.m.h. the camera woulda died around 80 pictures....10 with flash. then today i got the camera out. batt. still full. took another 40 pics.....but then my shutter button would'nt focus and shutter. and then none of my buttons worked as i checked. so i shut the camera down and let it sit about a minute, turned it on, and its fine again. first hiccup from my panasonic in like 5 years of fairly heavy use. i'm worried. i need photographic counseling..... should i go back to usin the alkalines or the who knows when they're gonna poop out on me n.m.h.'s? The manual says that use of lithium batteries is not recommended because the battery life cannot be accurately measured.
If they fail during a read/write to the card, the card can become corrupted and useless.
Alkaline, NiMH and Oxyride (Panasonic's own high power batteries) only.
You are also supposed to tell the camera what sort of batteries you are putting in. It comes set to Oxyride, to match the batteries supplied.
Could that be why you're getting such poor results from the other batteries?

Is this a good bright flashlight for camping? CREE Q5 LED 260 Lumen Flashlight Lamp Torch UltraBright Im in BSA and been in it for bout 2-3 years now. Im looking for a better flashlight. The CREE Q5 LED 260 Lumen Flashlight Lamp Torch UltraBright is made by "Surefire" (as it says). Please help! You certainly picked a bright light. One problem with such a bright light is that it will not last long. In some of the specs I saw it would run for 4 hours on the battery. That should be enough for one night out. If you are out two nights you may run out of power.
I have not used the Surefire brand. It certainly is expensive at $ 50.
I personally prefer a headlamp. With a headlamp I can work with both hands. I will use a headlamp even when I am not camping.
I would recommend two flashlights One would be a 30 lumen or less headlamp for around camp. The second would be a 90 lumen or more light, for emergency travel at night, or just for high power.
It is good to take a medium power flashlight camping. If you need to head home in the middle of the night because of an emergency. You do not want to use a small pen light that does show things in your path, or the lack of them like a cliff. The web site below recommends 30 lumens about 1 watt, for walking on a trail. Tactical / military lights start at 90 lumens or 3 watts. Yours is very bright at 260 lumens. That explains the short battery life. You need a light that will last till you get back to the trail head, while traveling at night.
Maglight makes good LED flashlights. I have a 4 D - cell battery 3 watt Maglight. I tested it an it ran for 27 hours on alkaline batteries. They also make a 2 and a 3 D-cell flashlights with a 3 watt LED bulb. LED is the way to go, it lasts 10 times longer. The Maglight is less expensive than the CREE Q5. Maglight has good quality. Brinkman also makes good flashlights
I have had bad luck with Princeton brand and Gerber brand of flashlights.

higher watt bulb in a battery Coleman lantern ? Coleman 8D Square Pack-Away Lantern- I bought one and rated at 390 lumens it does seem to put out pretty decent light. I have a 230 lumen flashlight from cree and this seems like it might meet the 390 test but... it runs a 15 watt spiral florescent bulb. What I am wondering is if anyone has tried or what they think about putting a higher wattage bulb in it such as maybe a 20 or 25 watt bulb? Would this just cut down the hours on run time ? Does the bulb run directly off of 12V?
If so, probably the only side effect will be a decrease in battery life.
If the bulb does not run on 12V, you will probably damage the circuitry if run for a long period of time.

Why is this thing only $17? Its 500 Lumen flash light off ebay from a United States seller? Tell me what you think about this.
