Do I need resistor for battery powered LED? I have purchased some simple LED key chain. It uses 2 Lithium CR2016 3V batteries (total of 6v) The LED itself runs 2.9v~3.2v. Base on what I've been told, it was advices to use a resistor. However, the key chain does not use one, and lights up just fine. I've been told that batteries would limit the overflow of current. Is that true? Normally what would happen if I use 6v on 2.9~3.2v LED without resistor? Why does the LED key chain operate without one? Thanks If you bought the unit and it came with the 3V batteries, I wouldn't worry about it. There could already be a built in current limiting resistor to compensate for the difference.

Two 1.5 volt AA batteries will last longer than one CR2016 button cell lithium 3 volt "battery", right? assuming they are powering the same exact kind of light or mini appliance that needs 3 volts, and used for an equal amount of time. Let's assume the AA batteries are ordinary Duracells or Energizers. Will the two 1.5 volt AA batteries last longer than the 3 volt button cell? Yes two AA's should last much longer than the CR2016. The AA are rated at 2000 mAh and CR2016 is rated at 90 mAh, so the theory the AA's should last about 20 times longer on the same load.

Can I use this Smoke Detector for my bedroom? I have a question for fire alarm techs and folks out there with good fire alarm technical knowledge. Yesterday, my sister was working on her shead, and while working on it, she happened to find an ademco Model 5808LST wireless smoke and heat detector, which she in-turn gave to me. She said she didn't remember where it came from. I was wondering if I could use it as a regular detector for my bedroom, since it has a code 3 sounder, or if it absolutely has to be used with a commercial type fire alarm system. I'm wondering, because I'd like to have a smoke detector in my bedroom to be on the safe side, because the only detector in our whole apartment is a commonly seen Ionization detector, which I think is manufactured by First Alert, in the kitchen. Also, does anyone know exactly what 3 Volt lithium batteries are, or maybe even the CR equivalant of them, CR equivalant meaning like for example CR2016 for a standard lithium battery). I need to know, so that I'll know which batteries to look for on E-Bay, for the unit. As always I am happy with any help. Thanks! I agree with Roger. You are supposed to change out a smoke detector every 5 years or so, depending on the type, whether it is air sampling, ionization, or optical. The last ones I bought stated 10 years on them. You would be better off with a new one.

the kind of chemicals, AA is a different chemistry form Li
the physical size of the battery cell. (cell is one unit, battery is a stack of connected units)
if you used two "D" cells it would last even longer
