Is suspicion enough for a cop to pull over a car? I am 18 and was recently at a party, I consumed a few beers but I had full control of myself and could safely operate my vehicle. I then left the party to go buy a pack of cigarettes and upon returning found that cops were parked along the street, so I then drove around the neighborhood and parked my car away from the street. I received a text a few minutes later asking for a ride home from someone at the party and that the cops had left. I pulled into the street but noticed a cop car spotlighting the house so I turned around and drove the other way a little but the cop followed me. As I pulled around in a cul-de-sac the cop stopped me and arrested me for a DUI even though there was no visible proof that I had committed any crime to warrant a stop. I agreed to a breathalyzer and registered a .02 and am aware that any detectable amount is illegal for underage drinkers but the cop had no reason to pull me over. (I was not driving recklessly or anything of that nature and was obeying all street laws and signs.) It even says on the citation that I can only be issued the DUI if I registered a ".08 or greater" OR if I have any "detectable amount of alcohol FOLLOWING an arrest for an offense involving the operation of a motor vehicle". I had a detectable amount BUT there was no arrest for any other offense meaning he pulled me over for suspicion because he had no other reason that would warrant a stop which would not allow him to issue me the DUI. Am I correct in assuming that? I talked to my lawyer and she agrees and thinks it will be thrown out but I would like a second opinion. In California,
Mere suspicion is not usually enough for the stop, but after reading thousands of DUI arrest reports, the person arrested seldom knows the real reason the officer pulls them over until they read their police report. You'll have to trust me on this, there will be a reason why the cop stopped you.
Arguably, the cop made it up after the fact, but that is something an experienced attorney will have to fight in court.

Why are black people driving fake cop cars now? Where I live in South Carolina I have noticed alot of black people driving fake cop cars around, crown vic's with tinted windows and spotlights on drivers side. I dont know if this is a national trend or just local. Why fake cop cars? lmaoooo

which way is the spotlight on a cop car supposed to be facing?Don't they break is they are facing a weird way? spotlight-mounted on the car door by the windshield. The spotlight is designed to be facing the windshield while not in use... the 'pointed' end is more aerodynamic and doesn't create so much 'windnoise'.
If it is kept in the 'upright' or 'use' position, as you drive down the road, the wind will slam it backwards, eventually damaging the light or the hand control....

why is the spotlight on a cop car supposed to be facing down towards the windshield when not in use? It was not a requirement at either Department I worked for but a very wise Deputy told me (after noticing that I had my passenger side spotlight up and in position for a traffic stop at night) that the reflection of the light can be seen easily by cars in front of you so if you want to be stealthy, keep it down. I drove (after that) with mine turned out slightly but down......worked just fine.

Got pulled over by cops tonight because I drive a cop car, do I have a record? However, if the officer who stopped you said it was illegal, I would suggest removing it. If it is illegal and you get stopped again, you could be cited for an "equipment violation". What were you doing before you got stopped exactly? Did he stop you because maybe he seemed a bit suspicious of what you were doing at the time? Were you shinning the light?

Since you are in WV, it would be illegal to have more than one spot light on your vehicle. You can only have one. Please see:

Which ways can you point the spotlight on a Chevy Impala cop car? It depends upon where it is mounted. In the light bar, it could be a side mount, or a facing forward/rear mount. On the door frame, most have about a 160 degree radius.

Shining it while driving is illegal wether it's an ex-cop car or not.
But if it says POLICE on the doors still and has operating siren's and flashing lights on the roof then that's way illegal.
They always strip that stuff off before they auction it.

Is it illegal to make your car look somewhat like an unmarked cop car? I have an impala and I am only looking to put the police wheels and magnetic antennas on my car. Are these things legal? I would never put any lights or decals on the car. I figure if they sell retired police cars with the spotlight, wheels, etc still on the car than it shouldn't be a problem. As long as you don't pose as a undercover police officer I am sure you are fine with your car having those things.

how do i remove a spotlight out of an old cop car? In a local junk yard, rests a retired crown vic police interceptor. I got a good price on the spot light (drivers side), so i decided to buy. One problem.. i cant figure out how to get it out of the door frame.. how does it disconnect to let the unit come out? the handle blocks a straight pull one way, and the the light blocks the other. even if the light or the handel was removed, it would still not come out.. how do i remove it?? remove the muffler and gas cap.much easier that way

What are the laws on owning an ex cop car in California? I own a Ford Crown Victoria that was once a patrol car and was wondering if anyone had any information on the legality of owning one. It is entirely black in color and has been stripped of all police equipment, the only remnants of its past are the spotlights and push bar. When I first bought it, the cage was still in it and because of this, I was pulled over by a cop and told to get rid of it. However I was not given a citation. Since then the cage has been taken out and I have had no problems with the law regarding the car, but I would still like to know exactly what the rules are on this anyway. I only use this vehicle to go to and from college and to make short trips to places near home. It is not my intention to play cop so do not jump to any conclusions and judge me based on the car I own.
