Competition between the princes in warfare and archery adds spice to the story. Arjuna was the favorite student of Drona, and we learn why. Ekalavya, a hunter boy, becomes a self taught archer but ends up giving his right thumb as a fee to Drona. The story of Bala Pandvas brings to light the innocence, humility, anger, jealousy, valour and courage of the cousins of the great dynasty. The qualities that they showed as children came to the fore when they grew up. This part of the Mahabharata is rife with emotions and deep lessons for life.

Meet Raymond M., excelling in adaptive sports Meet Raymond M., age 15, national champion from the North Jersey Navigators, an adaptive sports team for children and teens funded by Kessler Foundation. With a national record in archery and gold medals in swimming, Raymond is justifiably proud of his accomplishments. As a member of the Navigators for ten years, Raymond has competed nationally and internationally in archery, swimming, track field and table tennis. At the 2009 National Junior Disabilities Championships in St. Louis, he competed with athletes from across the nation. For the second year in a row, Raymond broke the national record in archery, a feat he attributes to intensive training and commitment. He also garnered the Spirit of Excellence award in archery for his outstanding example of excellence in competition. In swimming, it was a first place sweep for all six events the 50 and 100 yard events in backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke. Being part of the team has influenced Raymonds view of what is means to have a disability. The Navigators have shown me that anything is possible, he said. Being recognized as an athlete is just part of Raymonds experience with the Navigators. Traveling, socializing with peers, and training throughout the year have meant a broader outlook on life and many friendships, in addition to the benefits of physical activity.
