FN makes the M-16 now for the military. And the M-16 didn't have them until the M-16A4 model, which didn't come out until the 2000's. The XM177 was an experimental pre-production version of the CAR-15 for the Air Force during Vietnam. They never had anything of the sort.

what is the difference between a colt rifle and a colt carbine? "OAL" or overall length.
If you are talking about an AR type, the carbine length (shorter) have a different recoil tube, and the barrel is shorter.
Rifle is traditionally 20" barrel and over, carbine is typically 16" barrel.

What is the maximum effective range for a .45 colt rifle? ? What would be the most humane range to take a shot at an animal and it still be accurate and effective? Also what animals do you think it would be able to humanely kill with a well placed shot? Thanks. I have used .44mag revolvers out to 150yrds (scoped from a rest) out to 150yrds on whitetailed deer and coyotes with no arguement. A modern .45colt rifle like a Marlin 1894 lever action should be able to withstand a 230grn bullet pushed to about 1200fps, maybe a touch faster. You MAY have to reload your own to reach this level, but I wouldn't be surprised that some factory ammo would reach this muzzle velocity out of a 18-20" tube (published data is typically a 6" barrel).
The effective range is limited by the shooter, not necessarily the rifle or cartridge itself. The maximum effective range for the .45 Colt will be whatever range you can no longer RELIABLY hit a 6" target (EVERY TIME).
Range estimation becomes absolutely critical with slow flying, heavy bulleted cartridges like the .45 Colt. Based on it's trajectory, most shooters will have a difficult time doping the drop properly beyond 150yrds. For example, a 230grn bullet with 1200fps muzzle velocity will drop approx 34" at 200yrds. So if you line up on a deer at 200yrds, and adjust for 34" drop, but the deer is ACTUALLY at 220yrds (drop of 47"), your bullet will likely miss the deer entirely. Even if you only miss judge by 10yrds (210yrds instead of an estimated 200), you'll still miss the mark by 7".
If your rifle is proofed for .45 Colt +P, then you might be able to step up to about 1500fps with a 230grn slug, which will extend your range to the 200-250yrd range, assuming you can still place your shots accurately.
So again, personally, I would recommend only shots out to 100-150yrds, which is PLENTY far for deer hunting anyway.

Can I buy a Colt military rifle with semi-auto fire control parts? I asked this question before and I want to clarify that I want a Colt MILITARY rifle, NOT a Colt civilian rifle. Seriously, do a little research before you post. Yes, you can get a Colt police/military in semi-auto fire control only. You might have a problem getting one if you're not military or police though. The makers (of weapons for military/police) require proof at purchase, through a form in most cases, or an invoice from a department. Since you only want semi-auto there won't be other complications. You'll probably hear this from everyone answering, but their "civilian" and "military" ARs are made on the same machines and of the same parts...
Edit: Jon said it more accurately, including model numbers, than I did. I had the same intent. While I'm cleaning up my mess, Bushmaster does have a military sales department. This is not the same as saying that they produce M4s for the US Army.

What are some rifles with a revolver cylinder? I know of the Colt 1855 Revolving Rifle, the 1873 Carbine made by Uberti, and the MTs-255 Russian shotgun. Are there others? Do any companies make 1855 reproductions? I know that some companies make replicas but I'm looking for a fireable version. I'm also looking for the MTs-255. Here is the cattleman's black-powder .44 caliber revolving carbine. I have always wanted this gun.

Those rifles were designed for artillery crews to defend them from being over run. They were not designed to be a long distance rifle.

Edit; Sorry shafter you are wrong on several things. The long cylinder of this rifle held up to a 60 gr charge of FFFg black powder. That is equal to the charge of the Walker Colt. This will propel either conical or round ball over 1,200 ft per sec.
They made them with 6 shot cylinders in some .30 calibers and .40+ calibers and also some 5 shot .50+ calibers.
Also if you used a 40 grain charge the loading lever would not be able to press the ball in far enough to reach the powder charge *in any caliber other than the ones made with .36 cal or smaller*. And the ball or bullet MUST rest against the powder charge because any air space can create a dangerous pressure spike that could rupture the cylinder just as the original walkers had cylinders rupture.
I own a replica Colt Walker and I can hit targets up to 200 yards away. I have cronoed some rounds and reached up to 1,320 ft per sec with a .454 round ball.
The problem with that rifle was the danger of chain fire “all the cylinders going off’. Care was needed to seal the cylinders off with grease or wax to prevent this. Also the escaping gas out the cylinder would hit you arm if you held it by the fore stock or barrel. Gauntlet gloves were used to fire these but that didn’t stop some of the lead saved (typo, i mean shaved off) off the bullet as it entered the barrel to injure your arm. This is why the military discontinued using them.
The modern replicas still have this problem.

Where can I find a tutorial on putting together a colt airsoft m16 ? So for Christmas I got a colt airsoft rifle and it wouldn't fire. I opened it up and there was a disconnected spring. I took most of the mechanics out and now I need to put it back together. I assumed there would be a video on YouTube or something but it's only stuff about the 1911 colt pistol. Spring gun are not worth time to fix it...
just get a AEG you can start form Metal Gearbox and plastic receiver one.

I have seen prices drop on complete lowers by $10 to $20 from a online wholesaler
I sold a Staf lower colt upper for $800 a month or so ago and am seeing them listed at $700 now

Genrally, a "Colt Patrol rifle" would refer to a standard configuration AR-15. The price in that case seems very steep, unless it includes a good tac-lite and an optic. The department where I live uses surefire tac-lites and EOtech 551s on their rifles, which would drive the price up to about $2000 retail. LEOs almost always get a discount of some sort, and more so if they buy in bulk, so I'm guessing the latter estimate of what they are is closer to the truth.
The creeping militarization of the police is a legitimate concern, but I would be more concerned about why so many smaller towns with low crime rates suddenly feel the need for SWAT teams and APCs than I would seeing the local police get patrol carbines.

Are AR-15 accesories compatable with the Colt Match Target Rifle? I own a Colt Match Target Rifle and would like to add on some of the many accessories available for the AR-15 assault rifles. Are the accessories compatible? Yes, yes, and yes.
Even if you are unfortunate enough to own an odd-ball Colt with a small pin hole in the front receiver/lower - it's nothing a $4 adapter from www.midwayusa.com cannot fix. I have installed them on friends rifles and they work excellent!
