Steel..... not stainless. thats why they were blued or rarely nickel plated.
Usually more than one type of steel is used, the frame might be different from the barrel, different from the cylinder, etc.
ADDED: some of the old black powder models had a brass frame with a steel cylinder & barrel. Stuff like the peacemaker was steel.
why do colt revolvers(six shooters) cost so much more then the other six shooters like=ruger,cimmaron,uberti? i want to start collecting and i was wondering if colt was the gun to go with The colt name adds to the price, but the Ruger is a much stronger and better made gun. The cimmaron, and uberti are import copies of the colt and some other vintage arms. While their quality seems to be very good and are also nice looking guns, if your interest is in collecting you should stay with Colt and Remington ect. They will appreciate while the copies will depreciate.

Why are the Taurus .410 & .45 Colt revolvers so popular? Yes, they can fire 2 different rounds BUT the .45 Colt round is very expensive, ( I think the .357 mag is half the price and better) and the .410 shotshell is supposedly not that effective (except for snakes). Yep, a 357 is a far better round than 45 colt- but a 357 will not fit that gun. The 410 will, and thats why its desirable. The 45 colt round is just a freebie. It comes with the gun.

I am sure some collectors on here could guide you as to it's authenticity. Simply looking for a serial number might be meaningless too. If it were a copy, perhaps someone also imitated the serial number configuration.
Lastly. I have never seen a "counterfeit" Colt revolver in the USA...except for some very good copies of the Single Action Army. (Long story there.) Otherwise, the only reproductions I have seen were made in Peshawar Pakistan.

Commission: Warhammer Bolter and Captain America Maverick Here, we have the Captain America Maverick. Ranges are 45 flat on average. I m very impressed with the looks of the gun. Th drum has been seethed with .030 styrene sheet making a smooth finish for two Captain America vinyl logos. I painted the blaster to look like the American flag, finishing off the theme and making this thing awesome. I m planning a Batman blaster for the future in the same manner. The second was the Special Edition Gear Up edition with a 9v mod. One of my favorite repaints, but I still like the yellow and black scheme. Works great! I love the barricade and am planning on a personal clip system blaster with the raider well from the Gear Up Series, giving a natural look to the yellow/ orange/ black scheme that I like so much. The Transformers Scheme is a special edition blaster from Comic Con 2011. I ordered a few of these and modified this one with a 9v battery pack. I also added a one of a kind stock, taking Autobot emblems and attaching them to the stock. The final blaster is Jeeber s personal Maverick. The look we went for was a style modeled after a Colt revolver from the old west. It looks great with a few coats of black weathering over the silver paint and brown handle.
