Question about Colt handguns? Is Colt ever going to make Pythons again?I really want one but they are so expensive,I bet if Colt started to make them again they would be more affordable. Pythons were always expensive due to their high quality. If they were to reduce the quality for mass production, they wouldn't really be Pythons anymore.
Would they re-start production? Maybe, but not anytime soon. This depression has just started and we haven't seen real economic pain yet. My guess is that if Colt is still in business 10 years from now, we will again see the new Pythons for sale.

What are the prices for a colt 1911 handgun? Turning 21 soon I like to go to the range. Where are some places I can look for new 1911 pistols either 5" barrel or 7". Any websites that list the prices? The easiest way to answer this question is... whatever you want to pay for one.
Back "in the day", the only way to get a really custom autoloader was to buy a stock 1911 and send it to a shop for some work. The ejection port was typically made wider, the feed ramp was smoothed and polished, springs were replaced, triggers were polished, hammers were bobbed/trimmed/replaced, and so on.
Now, most 1911s come with the majority of these features straight out of the box. You can pay excessive amounts of cash for super slick race guns, or reasonable amounts for reliable self-defense pistols. The possibilities are endless, and you should really do your research as to what you want. Start by deciding what the gun will be used for. Although you can always upgrade (again, the sky is pretty much the limit) if you decide you want more out of the gun, the easiest thing to do is start with what you want from the jump.
A lot of people are going to tell you that Kimber is the best, yada yada yada. Point of fact, they've had a lot of QC issues as of late and are IMO a risk. The higher price tag makes them a no-go in my book. I'd also steer clear of Norinco, for the same reason, although they are at least affordably priced. This is something you may call upon some day to save your life-- do you really want to leave it up to question? Rock Island Armory has some low cost, well manufactured 1911s and it's a good baseline pistol to start out with. When you start getting into the longer barrel/slides, you're looking at a more limited selection and higher price-- that's the nature of the beast.
Make sure you function test any ammo you'll be using for self defense-- I recommend at least 100 rounds. Find some good magazines (Chip McCormick's are nice), and get your butt out to the range. The 1911 has the most commonly known manual of arms on the planet (for a pistol), and it doesn't take a genius to "master" its function. As with any firearm-- practice, practice, practice.

Can you suggest a 1911 colt type handgun? I carried a Colt 1911 semi auto when I was in the service many years ago. I was thinking that a 45 cal. would be an adequate home protection hand gun. I know there are several brands that make such an animal. Is there one particular brand that is a good value: reasonable price for a reasonably good quality sidearm? After I got out of the Military,I purchased a Springfield 45 auto.Everyone one on the ranged liked how it shot(3 inch groups).One guy said he was going to buy one.Ive owned two Springfield 45's,one Sig 220-45 auto,one Star PD-45 auto(compact),and one Norinco-45.My next 45 will be a Springfield.They go for around 599.00 now.Shooting Star makes an 8 shot mag for $30 dollars,it holds one more round than the Colt mag.Carry 7 rounds in your Star mags,it will increase the life of your mag by 30%.

Can an old Colt handgun with a lightly pitted bore be repaired? It really depends on the repair needed.
If the barrel pits are the only problems, it might not need repair at all. Lots of guns with badly pitted barrels still shoot quite well.
If the pistol it in good mechanical condition other than the pitted barrel, take it to the range and see how it shoots. If it groups well, you don't need to do anything with it. If it scatters shots all over the paper then you should contact Colt's Custom Shop/

Is the Colt M1911 handgun a revolver or a pistol? I'm writing a book and I'm not sure whether to call the Colt M1911 semi-automatic handgun that one of the characters owns a pistol or a revolver. A revolver? Those have cylinder that "revolve" and align the bullet/chamber with the barrel to fire.
Does a model 1911 have a revolving cylinder? No? Then I guess it can't be a revolver.
So, that leaves...pistol.

As far as the SAA is concerned, I have recently seen used COLT 1st & 2nd gen. SAA's for less than $100 more than the price tag on this imported clone.
NO way is the Schofield clone worth the $850+ price tag, either.
.45 Long Colt is still a very popular caliber, especially with the increasing interest in Cowboy matches and the SASS. .45LC can be found at any decent gun shop or firearms supply website.

I have the blue book of gun values... colt fanatics dont necessarilly follow that. its a rough estimate but .. supply and demand... i have a colt .38 super auto, combat commander, series mark IV, - steel frameand slidewith the brown wood grip, that sells for much more than its blue book value. also i have a colt detective special 2in barrel. blue finish with natural wood grip, in the original box. both are in the 98% to 100% category. i wanna find buyers The Blue Book Of Gun Values has a great deal of information on Colt`s Manufacturing Company Inc.

What made the colt revolver different from previous handguns? In 1839 Colt was granted a Patent for the revolving breach loading folding trigger firearm. He produced this in his New Jersey Plant under mass production methods. His business went under. (date may be off a year or so)
Then he opened (thanks to the Mexican American War) a plant in Hartford, CT and began to mass produce the weapons. Any similar weapon by another company became known as a Colt.
