What is a better handgun, the Colt M1911 or the Beretta 92F? I want to know which is more reliable, which has a better grip and feel to it. What I don't want to know is the difference in stopping power between the 45. acp and the 9mm round. No matter how you look at them, the Itralian 'krunchenticker' can't hold a candle to the veteran 1911, or any of it's clones, and not just because the open-slide design isn't strong enough to handle the .45ACP or 10mm, either.

i would like to find out the age of a colt handgun with a Serial number of 584152? it is a colt official police .38 anyone with info. it would be greatly appreciated contact the manufacturer they should have records of the pistol.tell them the serial number and they should have it.

What colt handgun to buy? i am looking to buy a colt handgun. i want it in .45 caliber. i really like the looks of the "government style" wondering what colt would be a great home defense (possibly concealed carry someday). i am looking at all the 1991's vs. 1911's. what would be my best choice? and why........ SEMI AUTO 1911'S AND 1991'S really not much of a differance in either one both shoot great and are well just excellent guns. I've never shot a 1991a1 but have heard good things of them, they all look the same and feel the same. I have 4 1911 45's only one a colt, two kimbers and a springfield all of them are excellent but my kimbers are the best of all 4. If you're going to use it for canceal carry then I suggest not buying the full 5 inch model as they get a bit heavy to carry all the time. One of my kimbers is a conceal carry model and it's perfect. not a smaller frame just a smaller barrel. Most guns are good home defence guns but you really don't need a 45 for that, the good ol shotgun is always the best home defence gun, nothing says "stop right there motherf*cker* from the click clack of a pump shotgun...I know from experiance from being broken into before.

What are the prices for a colt 1911 handgun? Turning 21 soon I like to go to the range. Where are some places I can look for new 1911 pistols either 5" barrel or 7". Any websites that list the prices? The easiest way to answer this question is... whatever you want to pay for one.
Back "in the day", the only way to get a really custom autoloader was to buy a stock 1911 and send it to a shop for some work. The ejection port was typically made wider, the feed ramp was smoothed and polished, springs were replaced, triggers were polished, hammers were bobbed/trimmed/replaced, and so on.
Now, most 1911s come with the majority of these features straight out of the box. You can pay excessive amounts of cash for super slick race guns, or reasonable amounts for reliable self-defense pistols. The possibilities are endless, and you should really do your research as to what you want. Start by deciding what the gun will be used for. Although you can always upgrade (again, the sky is pretty much the limit) if you decide you want more out of the gun, the easiest thing to do is start with what you want from the jump.
A lot of people are going to tell you that Kimber is the best, yada yada yada. Point of fact, they've had a lot of QC issues as of late and are IMO a risk. The higher price tag makes them a no-go in my book. I'd also steer clear of Norinco, for the same reason, although they are at least affordably priced. This is something you may call upon some day to save your life-- do you really want to leave it up to question? Rock Island Armory has some low cost, well manufactured 1911s and it's a good baseline pistol to start out with. When you start getting into the longer barrel/slides, you're looking at a more limited selection and higher price-- that's the nature of the beast.
Make sure you function test any ammo you'll be using for self defense-- I recommend at least 100 rounds. Find some good magazines (Chip McCormick's are nice), and get your butt out to the range. The 1911 has the most commonly known manual of arms on the planet (for a pistol), and it doesn't take a genius to "master" its function. As with any firearm-- practice, practice, practice.

Can you suggest a 1911 colt type handgun? I carried a Colt 1911 semi auto when I was in the service many years ago. I was thinking that a 45 cal. would be an adequate home protection hand gun. I know there are several brands that make such an animal. Is there one particular brand that is a good value: reasonable price for a reasonably good quality sidearm? After I got out of the Military,I purchased a Springfield 45 auto.Everyone one on the ranged liked how it shot(3 inch groups).One guy said he was going to buy one.Ive owned two Springfield 45's,one Sig 220-45 auto,one Star PD-45 auto(compact),and one Norinco-45.My next 45 will be a Springfield.They go for around 599.00 now.Shooting Star makes an 8 shot mag for $30 dollars,it holds one more round than the Colt mag.Carry 7 rounds in your Star mags,it will increase the life of your mag by 30%.

please what antique colt handgun between $1000 to $2000 is a good buy for an investment? While not an investment per say. A H&K MK 23 would hold its value very well and may appreciate over the years. Another fine gun to look at is an all original Colt Mk IV Series 70 Gold Cup National Match.
But both guns should not be purchased **solely** for the purpose of an investment - you should get them only if you like firearms and can appreciate these fine specimens..

i was giving an old colt 45 handgun,1872-1875 how much is this worth? there are intials on the handgun L.A. on the barrel , near the hammer and on the handle, the gun does not have any blue left , i have been cleaning and preventing rust on it. when i recieved this gun it had it's share of rust. i keep it well oiled and cleaned.the serial# is 1628** . the handgun is all intack. it is a bueatiful piece of history. The Colt SAA (Single-action Army) was produced from 1873 until 1941 (first generation); these are very collectible. I don't understand how you concluded 1872-1875; did the person who gave it to you tell you this? Then he/she was off a year but that would make the Colt a first generation. There are two " ** " after your listed serial # of 1628. Was this something that just didn't come up, or is the serial # just "1628?" If it is just 1628 then it is a low serial # and certainly could have been made between 1873 and 1875.
The lack of blue is unfortunate but don't refinish it as refinishing would destroy any collector's value it still has. Yes it is a great piece of history. Does it still shoot? (Don't shoot it just see if the cylinder rotates & the firing pin is still in place. You can point the gun up, MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO BULLETS IN IT and drop a #2 pencil with the eraser-end down into the barrel of the cocked gun and pull the trigger. If the pencil pops up then your gun is still capable of detonating a primer and shooting. Some of these were black powder only, so don't try shooting it until you're sure which one you have).
Can you figure out what the L. A. stands for? If it can be traced back to a famous lawman or nortorious outlaw your piece will be even more valuable.
It is hard to appraise a firearm without seeing it, but assuming it is a genuine Colt, four digit serial number, first generation, still in shooting conditions no blue but no rust, original grips in good condition: $1,000.
You could write to Colt and request history of your revolver by description and serial number. For around a hundred dollars they can usually provided quite a bit of info. like year of manufacture, sometimes even who it was originally sold to, etc. May be "LA" will come up and you'll learn that he was a famous Indian Chief Lone-Eagle, or something like that.

Can an old Colt handgun with a lightly pitted bore be repaired? It really depends on the repair needed.
If the barrel pits are the only problems, it might not need repair at all. Lots of guns with badly pitted barrels still shoot quite well.
If the pistol it in good mechanical condition other than the pitted barrel, take it to the range and see how it shoots. If it groups well, you don't need to do anything with it. If it scatters shots all over the paper then you should contact Colt's Custom Shop/

Is the Colt M1911 handgun a revolver or a pistol? I'm writing a book and I'm not sure whether to call the Colt M1911 semi-automatic handgun that one of the characters owns a pistol or a revolver. A revolver? Those have cylinder that "revolve" and align the bullet/chamber with the barrel to fire.
Does a model 1911 have a revolving cylinder? No? Then I guess it can't be a revolver.
So, that leaves...pistol.
