What pistol did the US armed forces use before the colt 1911? For some reason i thought it was a .357 revolver, what pistol did the US armed forces use before they adopted the colt 1911? .38 long colt , .30 krag rifles

Where can I find colt 1911 pistol replica that disassembles like real thing? I hear that the 1911 is a tinkerers gun and can be confusing to take apart and put back together. I am looking for a replica that I can practice assembly/dis assembly on so that when I purchase the real thing I will be competent at the task. Any help is really appreciated thanks! 1911s are remarkably easy to completely disassemble and reassemble (if you have any mechanical inclination) and even find parts for if you happen to accidentally launch your firing pin across the room. In addition to learning how to disassemble and reassemble you will learn how to clean, lubricate, and (the best part) shoot it before investing several hundred dollars more.
You can't really learn the 1911, unless you have a real 1911, so I don't think a replica as you describe exists.
Edit: The gun that stormgal referenced may be a replica on the outside, but I hightly doubt that it is a replica on the inside or operationally. I doubt you would learn anything about how a real 1911 works with it.

Where can I find a store that sells a colt 1911 electric blowback airsoft that is in stock? its because when I look at websites I find its out of stock and hope I can see one in the Philippines just in Q.C. Its because I live there and I want an airsoft 1911 (colt). If its a website I hope its cheap and ships to the Philippines. Thanks. What is the cheapest model Colt 1911 .45? I am planning on getting a Colt 1911 as a graduation gift. This would be my first handgun and I am looking for a good durable gun to have but money is an issue (Around $600 is the highest i can go). I am hoping to customize it in the future (Maybe adding a compensator and minor adjustments) but for now I'm just looking for a basic .45 to shoot and to own. So what is your suggestions on what model 1911 I should try to get? Thanks in advance! What would I be looking at buying? Actual Colt's are often somewhat pricey even if they're used. You will have a tough time finding one for $600., unless it's well worn.

COLT 1911..............? I am thinking about buying a Colt 1911 and i am wondering if anyone has any advice on what model i should get. And i am wondering how expensive 45 ammo is compared to 9 mils and 40s. i have heard a few people say 45 ammo is cheaper because it is more common. that true? 9mm is cheaper.
45 ammo is difficult to find right now.
That said- ?? why a 1911?? Do you just "like" that style of gun?
There are many far better pistols on the market now besides the old 1911 technology. The 1911's are expensive ( I don't know why?). Why not look at a modern polymer frame pistol that will hold -say 12 rounds and has a de--cocker, and is da/sa.
I have a 1911 Springfield. Its a good gun (about $650), but I would much rather carry, shoot, handle my Taurus PT-845 ($500). My 1911 weighs 48 oz with 7 rounds in it. My 845 weighs about 32 oz with 12 +1 rounds in it.
Taurus is an inexpensive pistol.....and there are many more...far better than the 1911...Sig, H&K, even S&W's M&P.
If its 45 acp you really like- then look around a bit. There is a lot to see.
But if its 1911 you like....then that the only thing that will satisfy you.

What are the warning signs of a worn-out 1911 colt? I'm in the process of purchasing a 1911 Colt Series 80 Gold Cup MK 4. The pistol does not have any scratches on it (can't currently load any pictures, sorry), but the current owner for several reasons won't allow me to test fire the weapon. Now I know this is quite risky, but what should I look out for to see if the weapon is worn or damaged? I agree with the person above, and unless the gun is not capable of being shot, a colt's parts can easily be found and replaced. I would disassemble the weapon and look for any parts that are excessively worn. Be knowledgeable on the cost of parts and if you think it is reasonable offer a lower price for the weapon so you can save some money and replace the parts that it needs. If he will not let you take it apart then I would pass on it unless he is giving it away at an unthinkable price. By unthinkable we are talking $200 lol. The slide should move smooth without obstruction, the bore should be smooth and clean, the action as well as the well of the clip should be clean. Do not dry fire the pistol but see if you can get a pin release in the caliber of the pistol. You should be able to slip the pin release case into the gun and pull the trigger, the pin should make its snap. The guy could be paranoid as well that if you test fire his gun you could turn around and shoot him in the process and steal his weapon. It has happened before. I know of a guy who had 3 clips of a glock and walked into a pawn shop, asked to see the pistol his clips would fit and most pawn shops do not place any type of protection on the trigger, so the guy slid his clip into the pistol and robbed the place. People are crazy. As a general rule, as long as the gun is clean, has no rattles, and slides smoothly you should be alright. Just pay close attention to the ejector plate and spring.

In a situation, in your home at night, are there any other people in the house? Pets? Take these into consideration.... Now, .45, very compact, will kill anything you can hit at the typical distance in a house. You have at least 7 rounds before you have to re-load. The .45 acp WILL shoot through walls, sometimes several walls. And will penetrate door jams nicely. The shot gun, while having a nice sound when loading the first round, mearly tells the intruder where you are, and that you are armed. At this point he may leave, or not. At this point you don't know. Next the shotgun is usually long. Not as easy to bring on target around corners and around stuff in the house. Shot guns typicaly will hold 3-4 rounds then re-load one at a time at night. Did you pick up extra rounds when you heard the noise, or just the gun? Shotguns will kill anything you can hit at the distances found in the home. Due to the nature of shot fired in shotguns, it has much less energy per pellet, than the bullet from the .45. This energy is used up quickly on walls and your grandmothers china cabinet. My advise is use what you have to protect your life and that of your family. If possable, retreat into a "safe" room and lock the door. Find something to hide behind and call 911. If the intruder decides to come through the door, do what you must. Good luck.

Can you suggest a 1911 colt type handgun? I carried a Colt 1911 semi auto when I was in the service many years ago. I was thinking that a 45 cal. would be an adequate home protection hand gun. I know there are several brands that make such an animal. Is there one particular brand that is a good value: reasonable price for a reasonably good quality sidearm? After I got out of the Military,I purchased a Springfield 45 auto.Everyone one on the ranged liked how it shot(3 inch groups).One guy said he was going to buy one.Ive owned two Springfield 45's,one Sig 220-45 auto,one Star PD-45 auto(compact),and one Norinco-45.My next 45 will be a Springfield.They go for around 599.00 now.Shooting Star makes an 8 shot mag for $30 dollars,it holds one more round than the Colt mag.Carry 7 rounds in your Star mags,it will increase the life of your mag by 30%.

How much can I get for my Colt 1911 government model? A family member just passed away and I inherited 4 guns, among them are two colt 1911 pistols. I'm interested in selling one. It's a custom model and it is 1 out of 1000 of that particular model And it's in great shape, it's black and the serial number is 319CGOV. I understand that they go for about 1500 so I was looking for about 1300 can somebody tell me if I'm wrong for asking that much? If it is new with box I think $1,300 is a reasonable asking price. (I know you said good shape)
These guns came out of the Colt Custom Shop IIRC. If it has been fired and is in very good to excellent condition, and or is missing the original box / paperwork then I believe it might only fetch $800 - $1000.
In any case it is a very nice gun that I think is in some demand to those that can afford it.
